Personally, I've found I prefer brown eyeliner. Especially against my blue eyes. But, I still use black occasionally depending on the look I'm going for. I think you should wear whatever one you like best! Regardless of age.
I say brown for daytime and black for drama or nighttime look. Both looked so nice with your new haircut ❤
I totally agree with this! I think the brown eyeliner looks more casual for days out, and the black looks better for more formal events. But then again, I'll sport whatever and not care. I still do agree with this comment though the most xD
That was my thought too. Both are beautiful, the black is just more dramatic and would be really nice for nighttime while the brown is great for work or daytime.
I am 62 I still use black Mascara, I have very dark lashes even though I have ash brown blondish hair. However I was feeling the Black eyeliner was starting to look harsh on me in my mid 50's. I switched to a Gray eyeliner and I do feel I still had definition but not so harsh.
One of my greatest beauty aggravations is how easy it is to lose fat in my face, and how hard it is to lose it on the rest of my body.
You are lucky that you lose "fat" in your face. It hangs on to every part of me! 😩
@@jann3443 - I'm only losing the fat pads in my face because I'm getting older. The rest of the fat on my body apparently superglued itself in place.
Tell me about it! It's just cruel!
I'm 69 and stopped using black eyeliner/pencil years ago as I have what I'd say are small eyes and it just made my eyes look smaller. So I switched from black to either brown or grey (sometimes a khaki/olive too) and I just find that it's a softer, less harsh look. Very useful video, thank you.
Me too I will use other colours mainly neutral sometimes a bit adventurous
I definitely prefer the brown side more so for the liner than the mascara. Is brown available in most lines of mascara?
Same!
@@katsm-wo9704I’ve found it a little more difficult to find a good brown mascara, although I understand more brands may be dipping their toes into putting brown mascara back on the beauty map.
I love the black side, it makes your eyes pop. I also love your side bang- so cute! ❤
Love the side by side. From far the black side looks pretty and dramatic but zoomed in I like the brown better for most everyday looks. The black would be more of a night out ❤
Brown all the way! Looks less harsh. And age doesn't matter.
This is a hot topic with me & my sisters (in our 50s). I prefer brown eyeliner with black mascara. Love the brown makeup on your blue eyes
I think that is a good compromise .....brown eyeliner and black mascara.
I do this as well - brown liner, black mascara (62)
I love the brown side!
Love the brown- makes you look softer
I like the side with the black. Makes your eye look bigger.
I like both on you. My skin is paler so I think I’m going to try the brown. Thanks for doing this video.
I liked both, but the black in the waterline made your eye look smaller. I agree the black is for nighttime, but no black in waterline! i usually do brown tightline and black mascara and nothing in lower lashes or under the eye.
I like both sides. I feel like the brown looks better for daytime and the black for evening. I personally stopped using black liner years ago for an everyday look but will still use black for special occasions. I'm 54 😊
Both looks work great on you! But being a “bit” older I’m inspired to try the brown. It looks much softer and will probably work better on my eyes now. Thanks for doing the video comparing the two!!!
Brown eyeliners are such a moment! 🥰 we love using Chocolate, Stone, or Brown for this effect too 😍
I think the brown looks softer and more natural. But both look great on you!
I love the brown side❤
I prefer when you use dark brown liner/shadow for the lift and black mascara. Dark brown for upper tight line. I do prefer how the black looks in this video because it shows up better; good for nighttime/dressier looks. No right or wrong here; depends on eye color and shape, hair color and skin tone! Loved this experiment! 😊❤️
I would never stop using black eyeliner & mascara on my 73 young eyes
I hear you sister👍
Agree!
Me 3! I do cheat on it sometimes but it’s my favorite since I was 16 - now 72🎉
I’m so tired of the “over 40” rules…🙄some women have dark skin and hair and brown just doesn’t give enough definition to the eyes. Stephanie girl you look gorgeous in both. The black looks more glam.
Stephanie looks great with Both colors
The black looks more dramatic. The brown eye does look more open.
Love your bangs! 💜🐾💜
Honestly, you're so good at makeup that it's hard to say which side is better. They're both beautiful. The brown is a tad more soft, but the black side is also so flattering. Tough choice!
Totally agree😊
As a fellow, 48 yr old, blue-eyed person, I really enjoy your tutorials! I personally really liked both looks. As I age, I have noticed dropping eye lids (more hooding), so I am looking for makeup that makes my eyes look wide awake as possible. I like the brown for any everyday look, soft/natural. I loved the black for an evening out/event look. I personally would not do the lining bottom waterline with the black. When you want a smoked statement I would add that black lower line (going to a show/music/bar/club), if I want to look more rock and roll. I'm Gen X. Can we ever really let go of a black smokey eye?? Haha
The methods you use make it possible to use EITHER products, and do it beautifully!! I think a lot of the discussion happening now is about using the harsher, no-smudged black eyeliner top & bottom versus using a softer look with color with smudging!
I love the black eyeliner side, but without the black in your lower waterline. Your eye color pops more with the black. The brown side is pretty, but I focus more on the makeup rather than your eye color. This was a great comparison!💚
Brown side all day long,,So pretty and not as harsh..
I like the brown side , but I say do what makes YOU happy!
This was a lot of fun! Personally, I like them both. The brown is very soft and more natural, but that black really makes the blue of your eyes pop. And I think there's a time and place for both looks, or at the very least an apropos mood for each one. I myself will often do a combo of black and brown, putting the black in the upper waterline and the brown just above the lashes. Then again, I've been known to use blue, purple, green and other colors both as liner and in my waterlines, and have come to prefer lighter, brighter and even sparkly liners in my lower waterline and lashline to bring unexpected lightness to that area. I guess I really am a "there are no rules" kinda gal. As for the brown mascara... It's pretty, but not my thing. I like black lashes.
I think you look amazing in both. I sometimes wear brown on everyday look and black like going out for special occasions. But, lately been focusing on brown it’s a more a natural look on me. Thank you so much for your amazing videos. Have a wonderful weekend 💗
The brown liner and mascara is
very flattering on you-better than the black.
So very interesting. I'm glad that you did this. I like how the brown mascara made your lashes look and I like how the black liner made your eye look, especially the bottom.
Thank you for being with us !
I really love both on you! The black is more dramatic, maybe for nighttime, and the brown is very beautiful with your blue eyes for a more subdued look. Btw, loving the bangs on you!
I think the black liner really accentuates your eyes! Love both, honestly.
I think the smaller wing in brown is nicer - at least during the day. Thanks for another great video!
Everything and anything black...give it to me. Love black!
I love both of those looks!! My preference is the brown side-I’m 57, really fair-skinned with blue eyes, and the brown looks more natural on me. For an evening look, though, I love pairing black mascara with a cooler gray/steel liner. Thanks for showing us the differences between the 2 looks, Stephanie!
I love the brown on you!!! I am going to try this!
Both looks are great on you! Black maybe more dramatic for evening. At 61 & naturally blonde with blue eyes I find the black too harsh in winter. I sometimes use brown liner with the black mascara. Thanks for the great tips!
Wow. Thank you!! I have thought about this a lot and seeing the difference and drama of black convinced me no more Dk brown lower waterline during the day. At night, with more blush darker lipstick def. But day brown and only lining under eye with bronzer. Both are beautiful on you but def a difference. Fantastic video!
I wore brown and magenta eyeliner when I was younger but now at 60 I am loving mixing color eyeliner with black in my lash line. On you they are both beautiful. The black is more dramatic, but both work. Tfs❤
I like the color of the Too Faced brown a lot. Especially for a daytime look. Great for more mature eyes.
This is SUCH a relevant video for me! I have generally preferred brown mascara for MANY years because I’m pretty fair, and I felt that black looked harsh. A couple of years ago, I started using black occasionally. When I apply black mascara, I look at myself, and I’m amazed at how good it looks. Regardless, I’m probably more comfortable with brown. The struggle continues!
BTW: LOVE the bangs!!
Thank you Stephanie; can really see the differanece.
I can only speak for myself ~ if I’m doing a full face of makeup, I’m going to wear a winged liner using the KVD Tattoo Liner Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in “ Mad Max Brown”, which is so dark it could easily pass for black. 😊
Ok, the black makes your eyes even more beautiful
I love the black liner and mascara!!! It looks great!😊
I love the brown side and will implement it - thanks
Love the black eyeliner and mascara. Looks gorgeous to my opinion ❤
Brown looks softer 😊thanks for sharing 😊
I like the brown! More natural and softer for the eyes to land
If Brown eyeliner look like that on me I would wear it! You look beautiful!
Brown eyeliner or eyeshadow on me is not attractive. I'll stick to gray and sometimes black for drama. Also love your techniques.
Great idea for a video - side by side comparisons! Bottom line is you are gorgeous so what ever you decide to wear will look great. I would pick brown for day time and black for night out.
Persona brown is my daily color of liner, but I might start looking at brown mascara. I've only used shadow under eyes. Like them both but I'm more brown side other than mascara. But I also love smoky eyes too.
Honestly, I love both looks ! I agree the brown is more subtle and probably a daytime look. The black is more glamorous. You are definitely NOT too old for the black. I don't know who makes up these rules... if you've got it -- flaunt it! You go girl!!
The brown looks really soft and lovely but the black also looks great imo / good to have options ❤
I like both on you, but prefer the softer brown for everyday. Thanks for the in-depth comparison. It inspired me to try it in myself to see what I prefer. I suspect it will also be the brown.
I like both! It would depend on the look I’m going for!
I actually use a brush to tightlining, because I tend to get it on my contacts (which, when using good waterproof liner, is very difficult to get off). Also, I find that "setting" the liner with a similar shade of eyeshadow helps to soften it, while also helping to resist transfer to my upper (hooded) eyelids. ❤
I like both looks!
They both look very nice, Stephanie. The brown is a more muted daytime look. I would say from the artist's point of view and the effect of "chiaroscuro," the contrast on your left eye of black with the blue of your eyes appears to make your iris seem larger and is very flattering.
I like the brown eyeliner side, but I would use black mascara. Thanks for the great video!
Both look good for you! I prefer black for myself even at 65, although I have blue eyes and light skin, dark hair though. Brown makes me look tired
I prefer the black Stephanie 🤗
You look young enough to wear the black! I like the brown on you for a softer daytime look. I’m in my 60s and have switched to brown. I feel I look better with a softer look; however, I feel each person should do what makes them feel the most confident.
I love both! I have a tendency to use brown every day (although I do use black mascara) but use black for night outs or when I’m going my dramatic.
I think the brown side doing lash line under lashes opens up your eyes more. I've never tight lined my lower lash line, so I'm not necessarily one to judge. Great tutorial!!
I think the black side gives off a sexy vibe whereas the brown side is more soft and an every day or evening look. Thx for the tip of using the brush to apply to liner first then applying. I'm going to give that a try as my mature, hooded eyes need all the help they can geet.
Both sides are beautiful. I would have thought that there would’ve been a bigger difference but I honestly don’t even necessarily prefer one over the other one you. Looks great. You could do either. Where you have lined that inner bottom with black it would be nice to take the neutral color from the other sides lower lash & smudge it down below that.
I for the most part stopped wearing black (I’m 47) a few years ago because so many beauty RUclipsrs told me it wasn’t flattering as we age-that sounds silly that I listened- I’ll have to revisit and see what I actually think without the influence of others.
I like the side with the brown liner and mascara. It’s a more natural look; not harsh. I’ll be 60 in April. Lately I’ve been getting into brown mascara. I really like it for an everyday look.
Hi Stephanie! My honest opinion is this. You have a beautiful eye color. I think the brown liner/mascara draws the attention to your eye color. They seem to sparkle more with the brown. The black draws more attention to the makeup itself. It's the first thing I notice instead of your eye color. All in all you are lucky you can wear either color. I have brown eyes so I stay away from black. I lean towards bronze eyeliners or ones that have a cinnamon or coppery tone. I always wear brown mascara as well. The Tower 28 is my favorite. I used to line under my eyes but I stopped that too. Now I just line the top (halfway) do a small wing to make the eyes look more lifted, apply mascara and that's it. I plan to try the eyeshadow under the eye and see how that looks on me.
I think the brown side looks more flattering on your complexion. I have black hair and dark brown eyes. Anything lighter than a dark brown eyeliner hardly make the impact I am looking for. I gravitate now to dark brown liner and black mascara (I’m 43 now). Love this video idea.
I think you look great in both eye looks. I prefer the brown for myself because it’s less dramatic and more natural looking. A dramatic look doesn’t really fit into my casual lifestyle.
Brown softer edge for day-time. Black is stunning!
I love both
I've been using brown eyeliner for every day makeup as long as I can remember. I have hooded eyes and can't really do a wing or anything like that, so I just smudge the brown. I still use black for dramatic evening looks though. And I use black mascara. That's a must.
Love both eyes. And I don't listen to what "they" say we women over 40 should do. I go with what I love ! Blessings!
Love both on you!! I’m 48 and wear black winged liner and black mascara on my downturned hooded eyes as my daily go-to, I don’t think I’ll stop anytime soon even though it might make my eyes look smaller or whatever 😹 but I like both on other people!
Both look fab, black pops more and eye opening but brown more subtle and natural.
The side with black makes your eye look bigger but the side with brown is soft and beautiful. I love them both!
The brown looks really nice.
I prefer brown as well.
They both look great. I think it depends on the occasion. I usually use brown for daytime & black for evening. I do think your blue eyes pop more on black side.
I like the brown ! Would you consider doing a GRWM with Nikol Johnson line of makeup?
I have always been an avid black mascara that lengthens. BUT lately I’m all about the brown mascara. I’m very fair with blue eyes and dark hair. I feel like the brown is a natural look that makes my eyes pop. I’m on my second tube of the Tower 28 brown mascara.
I just turned 50. I wear brown eye liner or actually my fave is Laura Mercier caviar stick in cocoa applied with a small angled brush. The only time I wear black ‘liner’ is a thin line of dampened black eye shadow, usually Chanel since it’s not too opaque. I always wear black mascara. I never wear black or brown on my lower waterline but I wear brown eyeshadows on the lower lash line. To be fair with my grey-blue-green eyes I have never suited the harshness of a black waterline. Nude liners are more flattering there.
I prefer the brown for me. I’m sort of a minimalist when it comes to makeup. In my opinion the black looks a little harsh and overdone. I want to compliment my features not change them. Kindness, Teresa
The black makes your blue eyes pop. The brown is nice for everyday look.
To me they look the same. On you, I find the black side really makes your eye color pop, great for a date night look. The brown looks like a pretty everyday look. Fun video. 😊 Both looks are beautiful. Do what makes you happy. You do you, I say.
Good idea for a video and personally like both and maybe black can be more evening.
Hmmm… I like both but I’m leaning towards the brown because I think it makes your blue eyes pop!? Maybe swap out the brown mascara for black with the brown eyeliner? Thanks for demo-ing!❤
I still love the black mascara however I LOVE the dark brown eyeliner and I’m 57. You do you I say! ❤
I recently switched to brown mascara and I don't think I'll ever go back. It's much more flattering on my 46yo, fair self.
A makeup artist said black liner should really be worn for nights out. She applied brown eyeliner on me and I loved it, this was many years ago and never went back to black. I use Rimmel brown has a little shimmer in it . I use it on my lower lash line have been doing this for years and love it. Brown really makes a better difference. I sometimes tightline in a navy blue as I have dark brown eyes. I still use black mascara as I don't like the brown mascara on me.
I've actually never been a huge fan of black eyeliner (other than when every once in a blue moon when I wear liquid liner for nights out - although I struggle with liquid liner these days so that pretty much NEVER happens now). I've always gravitated toward browns and grays. As I've gotten older, I've also stopped using regular eyeliner and typically use eyeshadow applied with a small angled brush for liner because I like the softer look it gives instead of the precise lines from my traditional eyeliners.
Love them both. Both looks look beautiful on you. think the brown is more daytime. However I feel that mascara appears to make lashes more full. Love the black for nighttime and glam look. However I think the black makes your eyes color stand out more.
I did switch to brown eyeliner with black mascara for everyday looks in my mid 30s already - keeping my black eyeliner for special occasions. However as my own lashes are almost black themselves I do not foresee switching up my mascara too, but never say never :)
The water line on the black side skewed the experiment. Might look better blurring the black under the lower lashes
I like both on you I've been wearing brown eyeliner and mascara for the last 10yrs I'm 56yrs now I bought charlotte tilbury liner and mascara cos it was difficult to find now I've bought from several different brands the reason I switched is as I'm going grey and have stopped dying my hair I find it looks less harsh xx
I like both. I do both on my dark brown eyes. I find it depends what mood I’m in that day.
