I cannot believe that I found someone who is actually doing an eyeliner video for the waterline! I am truly excited and thank you for all your hard work. I have smallish, almond shaped, hooded eyes, so I really need a good eyeliner for the waterline and your video is going to help me tremendously. Thank you so much. New subscriber here.
Edit: Marc Jacobs announced that they are coming back with their beauty line! No dates yet, hopefully soon! @@manuela1102 Marc Jacobs stopped making makeup I think about a year ago. Don't know if it's ever coming back.
@@manuela1102 YES, Marc Jacobs are the closest I've seen to 100% water/smudge/transfer proof. I used all my pencils up and can't find any dark color now. ☹️
It’s not always a question of being waterproof, but rather smudge resistant. There are oil glands on the inner eyelid where you are putting the liner. Most liners fail because of the oil.
I zingss, thank you for this tip. My problem is getting the liner to actually go on parts of my waterline. Any tips to remedy this problem would be much appreciated.
This is so true! I'm the one who struggle to find the eye liner that doesn't transfer down to the bottom because of the oil. I've tried soooo many brands from low to high, and none of it has worked. So, you mentioned "most", does it mean that you've found one that actually works against the oil? So far, Lancome drama liqui waterproof eye liner and Senna ultra last eye liner have been the best, but still transfer. Let me know!
I really don’t think it’s a good idea to wear it on your water line. Anytime I have tried this, my eyes bothered me for a few days. They say it makes your eyes look bigger, but I think it makes them look smaller. What’s wrong with putting liner above lashes? 🤷♀️
Thank you SO much. I have bought at least six “waterproof” and “smudge resistant” eyeliners in the past few months with zero of them living up to their advertised “long wear.” Saw your video and thought I’d try again and SO glad I did because this Milani one you reviewed here is the ONLY one that has stayed put!!! I can throw the rest away and hope and pray Milani keeps making this forever 😁
I am new to your channel, but I trusted you and got the winning Milani eyeliner. Yup! It has stayed all day on my waterline. I have struggled for decades with eyeliners falling during the day. A meaningful difference in my makeup! Thank you Bobbi!
Fantastic video. I haven’t used eyeliner in a hundred years simply because it never lasted and I ended up looking like a raccoon after an hour or two. You’ve convinced me to give Milani a try. Thanks so much💕
A trick is to apply eyeshadow (press it on with a small flat brush) directly over the eyeliner; this usually holds it in place better, kind of like applying powder after foundation. Thanks for the vid!
As a 55 year old, I have long since given up eye liner pencils. They just quit working for me and ended up all over in the outer corners and creases of my eye (my eyelids have become more oily as I've aged). Now I use a very inexpensive, but very effective eye primer (Wet n' Wild) and I use L'oreal Flash Cat Eye waterproof liquid eyeliner. I don't use it on my upper waterline exactly - I apply it actually IN the lash line (though some inevitably does end up on my waterline). It goes on super easy and lasts ALL day without budging. I would love the ease of using a pencil again, especially when I just want a quick makeup job and don't need it to look fabulous or last all day. I'll check out the Milani pencil.
YOU! Are my hero! I have been struggling for YEARS trying to find a transfer proof waterline eyeliner and I can’t believe I hadn’t tried the Milani one. It’s in my cart right now. You deserve a cookie and a hug for this video!
You saved me at least $100 trying different eyeliners, probably more. This Milani is something I may not even have tried as I’m a basic L’Oréal, Maybeline, Revlon kind of girl. This is hands down the best waterline eyeliner ever!
Yes, I agree, she really did the testing well. I bought Milani, and it works even better than she described. At long last, I have an eyeliner that stays put!
I know this is bursting a bubble here but I have severe dry eye syndrome….prob caused by many years of waterline makeup. The liner blocks the Meibomian glands and prevents normal tear production. If you are getting older the chances are this will happen to you, especially after menopause when everything dries up! PLEASE, PLEASE think twice before using liners on the waterline because, believe me, the misery of MGD means NO make up at all for life for many people who develop it. Such a great comparison video, please do more like this! I have the added challenge of finding one that doesn't cloud up my contact lenses (I believe I tried the Milani and it did stick to my contacts when I used it in the upper waterline, unfortunately.)
After watching this video I rushed out and purchased Milani stay put eyeliner. I applied it to my waterline as normal and was so very disappointed by the afternoon. It kept transferring to under my eyes and gathering in the tear duct area. I thought I'd found magic and was so very sad. Even though my wet & wild isn't as intense by the end of the day, it doesn't end up all over.

My eye doctor told me to never put eyeliner on the waterline of the eye as that is where the eye's oil glands are. Putting eyeliner on top of them will block the glands and keep them from being able to secrete the proper amount of oil and lubrication to your eyes. This would in turn cause dry eyes and also make your eyes more susceptible to infection.
@@Elvenboadicea Glad that you've had no problems. I'm just relaying what my eye doctor and other eye doctors advise. As for me, I put my eyeliner near the waterline, but not on top of it to avoid blocking the oils glands. Keeping those glands free and clear of blockage is all the more important as you get older.
So true about not blocking the oil glands at the upper lashlines--I DID get a blockage infection and it took weeks of warm-water washing, antiseptic eyedrops attention and several different rounds of antibiotics to out do it. Same with being cautious about "balm" mascaras....
Wow! Thanks, Bobbie, for taking one for the team! I recently tried Gwen Stefani's GXVE eyeliner pencil...I can't remember the exact name, but, wow! It stayed on my waterline all day! I may now need to check out the Milani one here. Thanks so much!

Thanks for taking the time to test all the brands ! None of the eye liners I use last, and most transfer. I have an old…really old, eye liner from Mally Beauty that works well. I’ll be picking up a Milani for sure ! 💜💜
Thanks for sharing your results! Looks like you spent a lot of money on this experiment! Thank you for your hard work! Almay liquid liner works great too! You must let the almay liquid liner dry.
This video was SOOO helpful ❤ Have been struggling to find the perfect waterline eyeliner for years. Especially ones which dont irritate and leave my eyes stinging!!
Thank you so much for doing this video! I have spent so much money on so many " lasting, waterproof " eyeliners and waterline eye products. However, I have never tried Milani. I will purchase Milani today. Thank you, again. Linda from Las Vegas 💝
I swear by Physicians Formula water proof eyeliner pen. Nice thin pen draws. Great line. Doesn’t come off until you take it off. It actually removes easily with soap and water (even though it is “waterproof”
Thanks so much for this video! I stopped doing my goth makeup the way I used to do it in my teens because it would just end up looking like a mess after a couple hours (not good if I wasn't going for a grunge look lol), so I'll be adding Milani Stay Put Eyeliner to my shopping list for next time. Also, you do such an AMAZING job with clear demonstration; other RUclipsrs could learn a thing or two from you!
Thankyou so much for this. The money we waste on pencils that don't live up to what they promise! It's great to have someone willing to test them. Especially for a full day. Fantastic.
Thank you so much for this video. I LOVE the look of waterlining the top lid but had tried at least 10 high end, high dollar eye liners, all of which failed miserably. Either not staying on, or running or leaving dark liner below my eyes. I bought Milani this weekend....and its a TOTAL game changer! Thanks for the information and for all the videos you do!
If you need something that truly lasts, try Inglot AMC Gel Liner. It’s in a pot and you’ll need to apply it with a brush, but that stuff doesn’t budge. I’m a makeup artist and we apply it on the waterline too, no problem! Comes in black and brown and other colours..
My old school fav is the maybelline unstoppable waterproof eyeliner and have been my go to since the 90’s! Try it out and comment back what you think 🥰
Literally. Thank you for doing this. SO hard to find one that will stay on! The urban decay one MADE for this wont even stay on me! Going to try milani.
Thank you for the video. I really needed one for my upper waterline because without it I have a weird pink line of my lid showing through my dark pupils so it’s just a necessity. and because of that I’ve been trying these water line markers for years. Let me throw in another contender, and I surprised myself with this one. It’s the Kylie matte gel eyeliner. It works so well and stays on like a tattoo. It was still on in the morning when I woke up 😀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I went ahead and bought 8 more of them and I will probably purchase eight more. I never would’ve tried a Kylie cosmetic believe me, but this is the only item in her line that I will swear by.
Thanks for doing this video. I learned to line the upper waterline from Nikol Johnson, for those of us who are challenged in trying to line from the top at the base of the lashes. I was never good at it, so doing the upper waterline is the perfect answer. I am going to try the Milani, I LOVE their nail polish, (if you can find it). It lasts longer than any I have tried. Regarding transfer, I don't mind a bit of transfer, to me it gives a nice, slightly smudgy look, so I don't have to try to line the bottom lid and make it look natural. As I age, I am really trying to do the bottom liner much more subtle and not so harsh.
I took your advice and tried it, and the Milani is just great! It lasts and lasts, and it doesn’t smudge on my lids either. I ordered more right away. Thank you!!
Really great review! So frustrating trying to find a good eyeliner. I’m going to try the Milani for sure! I just purchased the Laura Geller eyeliner on sale and it is really good and stays in place all day. I am pretty impressed so far.
I love MUF’s Aqua Resist liners! Only eyeliner I’ve used for last 10 years. So many amazing colors and it stays put. It’s more pricey that drugstore but lasts and you’re not constantly frustrated with it wear off or transferring elsewhere. Can’t wait to try the q-tip trick to dry my waterline beforehand. Thanks for this great testing video. I had tried every waterproof eyeliner out there high end and drugstore and was constantly annoyed with each purchase. Nice to hear your confirmation that MUF is the golden ticket! Just landed on your channel bc of subject and glad I did! Immediately liked and subscribed.😊✌🏻🌹
This outcome makes sense. Years ago some of my favorite beauty RUclipsrs swore by Jordana Easyliner for this purpose. And before the brand went out of business, Jordana was owned by the same folks who owned Milani, and they had several "twin" products. Glad you found a winner!
I had the same exact results!! I’ve been searching and searching for an eyeliner to tightline with that wouldn’t transfer to my waterline below! $24 Urban Decay came in 2nd. Pat McGrath, Pixie, L’Oreal, you name it. Milani was the best!!! Is the best!!
I just knew it would be Milani! I have used this eyeliner for 3 years and it never fails me. I tiightline my upper lid but I have also used it just in my eyelid. Sadly, it is getting difficult to find. I use the color you tested (semi-sweet) and have had to pay extra from a 3rd party seller the last few times I purchased it. I am able to find black but that is too dark for me. Hoping they don't discontinue. 😐🥰
Most helpful content award 🏆🥇👏🏻 thank you! 🙏🏻 I’m always on the hunt for the best eyeliner and had some luck with a few Korean brands (on Amazon, drugstore pricing), worth a try!
Yes, Korean brands have the best pencil and liquid eyeliners (well and also mascaras but that’s a different topic) imo. The Sharp So Simple Pencil Eyeliners from Clio are the best and they’re like $10 with a few different shades. If you haven’t yet, I really recommend them to you!
Just bought the Thrive eyeliner and it doesn't quite make the cut. This has been a never ending struggle for me. Thank for trying so many and finding a drugstore brand to try 💜
I tried the Thrive eyeshadow stick in Riji on my waterline and loved it. Its softer than the liner, so applies easier on the waterline. I was surprised at how it stayed put all day. No transfer
Since COVID I stopped wearing makeup. Recently, I started wearing makeup again so, I'm a little out of practice and don't know what's good or not?? Thank you for your honest review. I rushed out to get the Milani Stay Put Eyeliner as I wanted to try it out. Your review was totally correct the eyeliner stayed in place and lasted all day and only went when I took it off. However, I did find that a bit had transferred to my bottom waterline. Must admit, I haven't done eyeliner in years so it might be my technique. It didn't irritate my eyes, had a lovely creamy texture and glided on easily. Be nice to see it in other colours (brown or a plum would be nice) but I could only get it in black. On the whole a very good eyeliner. Thanks! 😊❤🎉
Thank you so much for this video. As I age I find tight lining one of the most flattering techniques I can do. Not if it is going to wear off or transfer. Also I just love the ones that burn!! Lol
When I saw the title I yelled, "Perfect!" I have been wasting $ trying to find a pencil just for my waterline. Thank you! Buying the Milani right now! Subscribed!
I am very excited to give this winning eyeliner a try! One other drugstore liner that has worked really well for me is the Wet n Wild Breakup Proof liquid eyeliner. It feels a bit weird to use a little liquid brush-type eyeliner on the upper waterline, but I have done it many times and it stays put. I have quite oily eyelids, so most other eyeliners tend to smudge throughout the day.
This is one of my favorite makeup videos. I am LOVING the Milani eyeliner. Would you do a video on the best concealer? I cannot find one I love. They all seem to gather in my under eye wrinkles.
Thanks so much for saving me time and money. I am always looking for a great waterline product. I will try the Milani. Happy to be a new subscriber, too!

Thanks for sharing your results! Looks like you spent a lot of money on this experiment! Thank you for your hard work! Almay liquid liner works great too! You must let the almay liquid liner dry.
I'm obsessed with Urban Decay 24/7 liner - it's my holy grail! :)
Your video is perfect timing for me, thank you. I will be purchasing the Milani eyeliner
Fantastic Bobbi! Thanks so much for the video. Thorough and to the point! AND you saved us time and $$. ❤️

I swear by Physicians Formula water proof eyeliner pen. Nice thin pen draws. Great line. Doesn’t come off until you take it off. It actually removes easily with soap and water (even though it is “waterproof”
So happy this video popped up on my home page! I've been searching for something like this for so long!
Great video! I also like the Kat Von D tattoo eyeliner! Stays on the waterline all day long
Thank you! I am close to your age and I wear water liner everyday. This was so helpful!
Thank you for taking one for the team (or should I say a few for the team). I have very watery eyes and I'm so excited to try this one.
You’re welcome Karla! I hope it works just as good for you.
This video earned a sub. Omg best eyeliner ever! I’m so excited to save a fortune from NOT doing these comparisons myself.
OMG … I hope it’s not sold out by the time I get to the store. Thanks for doing this - you’re a real trouper !❤
Yay Bobbi!! I have spent a small fortune on eye liners for the water line. I am definitely going to try this !
Quality content, great info, excellent presentation, no boring filler to skip through, thanks for wonderful video! Had to subscribe ❤
I have used this now for years. I use it for upper water line and smudge on top. You can get it at Target which I like.
This is one of my favorite videos. Milan’s is awesome. Thank you! Please do more videos like this.
I love that you are testing these. Tip from amazing makeup artist, the late Kevin Aucoin: set oil based liners with powder and it lasts much longer.
You look fantastic! Great comparison!! I'm going to try the winner!!
Thank you for this video! It was so hard finding someone testing drugstore liners in the color brown, and only on the waterline. Super helpful
Just what I been looking for. It’s crazy not that many people review this important things
Oh no! I hope it isn't being discontinued! Why Milani - WHY???!!!
Thanks! 😊❤🎉
I have used a NYX gel pencil for a long time. They are great. Milani has some great tubing mascara to rival Thrive also.
My favorite is Essence! Goes on smooth and lasts all day.
Thank you so much for this video. As I age I find tight lining one of the most flattering techniques I can do. Not if it is going to wear off or transfer. Also I just love the ones that burn!! Lol
So excited for this video! I need this research!
I have been using the HAUS brand and pretty happy with the results.
This video just got you a new subscriber and I thank you!!
I’m looking forward to seeing more videos from you!
When I saw the title I yelled,
"Perfect!" I have been wasting $ trying to find a pencil just for my waterline. Thank you! Buying the Milani right now! Subscribed!
Why have I not seen this channel. Stayed up watching as many videos as I could. Great advice!
Wow. Thank you, your test realy will help me get an eyeliner that works. Bobbie, you nailed it!❤
Great video. Thank you for testing out numerous eyeliners. I will have to get the Milani.
Straight to the point, no nonsense, informative and helpful. This is delightful! Thank you for the great video! 😊
I use the CoverGirl exhibitionist and LOVE IT ! It never moves once I put it on. I do make sure my lids are dry before application.
First time viewing your content, and I was amazed at both your perseverance and your fabulous eyelashes. Great job👏🏻
Wow, I've never had anyone tell me my lashes were amazing! Thank you Mary!
Sometimes products transfer because there is an excess. I would recommend trying one coat instead of going back-and-forth multiple times.
I use Almaty gel pencil. I put it on heavy. Never has transferred or faded.
Thank you. I had been looking for one that would actually stay in the water line
This is one of my favorite makeup videos. I am LOVING the Milani eyeliner. Would you do a video on the best concealer? I cannot find one I love. They all seem to gather in my under eye wrinkles.
Milani has been my favorite for a few years now and like you I’ve tried every liner out there from Dior to nyx
Thanks so much for saving me time and money. I am always looking for a great waterline product. I will try the Milani. Happy to be a new subscriber, too!
Great video! Thank you so much for all this hard work! What tool do you use to style your hair? It is gorgeous!😊😊
