Paying in cash would have been an easy to see campaign finance violation. Cohen advise Trump that would not be the way to go. It does not prove Trump didn't know what the payment was for, it proves Trump knew Daniels had to be paid. Defense must prove Trump knew nothing about the payments and that he signed the cheques without checking what they were really for.

I’m not sure what the big deal is, everybody knows and has for a long time, that there was an agreement made to her not to speak and she was paid off. It happens all the time. The fact that they’re talking about it shouldn’t make a difference because everybody knows that they made the agreement to pay her off. She didn’t abide by the agreement and spoke after she signed it and took the money. I’m not sure how this is a big gotcha because no one is denying that they paid her off?
