In peckers testimony, Cohen told pecker he would get "the boss" to take care of it. But clearly on this recording Cohen was just telling trump what he was going to do and "he's got this". That was also his testimony to Congress that he did it without direction from trump. He got trump in trouble, set him up. Of course trump was done with him when cohen got convicted. And cohen threw trump under the bus in his plea deal. Cohen was the snake, not trump.

If you pay attention to the testimonies of pecker and cohen- they are acting separate from trump, but trying to get trump to pay the bill. Cohen here is explaining that he already started the process of trying to get a shell company up to pay pecker and trump is like "what? What funding? ". Everything on trial was either a pecker or Cohen action, acting on Trump's behalf without his direction, but he trusted the 2. They were betraying him. Even Cohen said he made the recording to get Pecker's loyalty.
Pecker obviously felt betrayed by trump.
Peckers media made trump a bigger celebrity, including getting a poll done that got trump to run for president. Cohen also was doing stuff for trump. I don't think either felt trump appreciated enough of what they did and they set him up.
