- This is a test of the Federal Signal Model 2 at the old? under renovation? fire department in Delphi, Indiana filmed on January 2nd, 2016. I set up across the street next to the new? temporary? fire department which happens to be in an old gas station and next to a bank (which I'm regretting because there was a lot of idling vehicle noise). This is the first of 3 siren tests that Matt Hackler and I attended today.
The county was about 5 minutes late testing so I called to make sure they were still testing (which you can hear in the beginning). The dispatcher sounded rather annoyed that I called and said he would do it when he got around to it "which should be in about 30 seconds". (I later found out from Matt that Austin Burns, who was in another part of the county, had called right before me :D.) Pager tones came over my scanner shortly after. Sirens in Carroll County are tested on the first Saturday of the month at 10a.m. EST.
Note: the audio changes a bit after the first pager tone because I switched back to the audio I recorded from my phone after I was done talking with the disgruntled dispatcher. My camera's audio had more wind noise than I liked.
My hometown, born and raised. Always loved hearing that model 2 ring out. I’ll always remember the time when I was 5, holding my dads hand waiting to walk across the street to go to the parade, in front of that same exact siren. The siren went off for a test while waiting to cross and I’ll never forget the fear in my dads eyes when I took off in front of a car trying to get away from the loud noise. 🤣
That creepy echo
I found a federal signal model 2 in my area that has a modified housing at a fire station that is now mine the siren is mine not the station
Nice sounding Model 2! Love the train horn in the background at the end too (sounds like a Nathan K5LA).
It winded up out of nowhere it scared the crap out of me
1:41 for those who aren't patient. Don't worry Squiddy7863, I watched the entire video.
The siren drops in pitch throughout the test
Holy cow it really does. Wow. This is my hometown, born and raised, and I know this particular siren, as well as rockfield, indiana siren, both need replaced. Badly.
@@keritoole4531 What's happened now?
They’re still up and running. I honestly think that the county or whoever pays doesn’t have money to replace them. They’ll do for now, but they really do need replaced.
@@keritoole4531 do they sound any worse than in this video?
@@TheMatsushitaMan I don’t get to hear them too often because I’m always at work when they test, but I’m sure they might a little.
Does Delphi have any other sirens? Their old fire station had a Sterling M and I seem to remember a Model 5 on the courthouse.
+Audinos Other than this, they just have 2 2001's. One on the north side of town and one on the south side. The courthouse siren is a older ACA siren, likely a Bansheee, and it isn't active anymore since it's just a block away from this siren.
@@squiddy7863 do you know anything else about the old siren on the courthouse? I’ve been wondering about it for quite a while.
@@keritoole4531 I don't, unfortunately. Do you know if it's still there? I haven't been up there in awhile.
@@squiddy7863 it’s there, as of a couple months ago. There’s a guy that likes flying his drone and taking pictures, and based off the picture he took above the courthouse, it’s still sitting there 😃
