Federal Signal 500SHTT Tornado Siren in Attack.

- It has trouble rotating in the beginning but fixes it's self after the first minute. This 500SHTT is located ontop of the Veteran's Administration (VA) Hospital in Topeka, Kans. It was originally owned and operated by Shawnee County but after they updated their new system, this siren remained silent. The VA decided to buy new controls for it and have Shawnee County continue to operate it. Thus, this siren is owned by the VA Hospital but Shawnee County still sounds it for tests, tornado warnings and non-weather related emergencies.
Shawnee County test the sirens every Monday at noon, however on the First Monday of the month they are tested in Attack.
That echo is insane and sounds eerie!
Probably my favorite siren ever made.

Awesome video! I'm glad the VA broughtt new controls for it and saved this awesome siren. The Mod in the background sounds creepy. To hear both during a warning would be bone chilling!

No, he is correct. That is the right designation for this particular model of 500 according to both old literature and what's on the nameplate.

They have the older ones in LA, no longer in use unfortunately. The older version doesn’t rotate in circles it just goes side to side.
There is one of these in a town farther north which is just the siren without the housing or the rotator. It is sitting on top of City Hall.

@carexpertandy Shawnee County sounds the sirens in Alert for Weather-related Emergencies (like a Tornado) and attack for non weather-related emergencies (like an Attack or perhaps a Haz-Mat Emergency) so they test Attack on the first Monday of the month to make sure both signals work.
Is this the same one that was recorded in Alert a couple of years ago by a different youtube user the location looks the same from the other video of it in Alert

Seems like it’s getting tired out it’s sluggish and getting and struggling to turn or something change to retired as old sirens

@gatrwrks The model 5 is no longer in service.
There actually used to be a working P-50 just south of Burlington, KS next to a dam but it's since been replaced.
So why exactly are they testing in attack?

500-SHTT is the same thing as a 10/12 port 500AT.

Well the chopper design of the p50 I believe was based off of this siren. But both sirens are very loud but the p50 is just louder because of how large it is
