I honestly agree with you about Icebreaker!! In my opinion, it was more about the smut than the actual story but if that's your cup of tea I would recommend it. I am definitely in Jess' camp where that is not my favourite topic to read about. :)
When you said icebreaker I immediately was like ooh she's not gonna like it because it's rather spicy and I know you don't love that in books. I loved it but I know it's not for everyone!
I used to be such a bookworm when I was younger but sadly read way lesser these days. I’ve been trying to get back to reading and I LOVEEEE that you’re along on this book journey 🫶🏻
I’d definitely recommend the Thursday Murder Club for getting out of a slump because the chapters are short and it’s a mystery without being overly complicated or hard to follow. I’m saving the last in the series for when I get in another slump myself!
A good summer read I think you’d love is The Summer I Turned Pretty! It’s childhood friends to lovers, it’s got all the teen “drama” that’s cheesy but SO investing haha they also are shorter books (there’s 3) and they rly helped me get out of my summer slump. Everyone I’ve talk too says they fly three them in a matter of days!! Also my favorite book is Turtles All The Way Down by John Green (he also wrote the Fault In Our Stars which is also a popular movie, also recommend that one!) There both kind of sad but such good deep stories and I just LOVEE John Greens writing. SO GOOD! Love these videos so much Jess! ❤
I started reading The Paris Apartment from your last video and i’m loving it so far!! I thought the beginning was a little slow but now i’m really liking it!!🫶🏽Thank you for sharing ur reading recommendations with us ❤❤

Yay for getting out of your reading slump! 🎉 Yours Truly is so good. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I also really appreciated how accurate and authentic the anxiety representation in that book felt.
Ahhh, I love Jess Conte and I love reading📖. Both of them together, yayayaayay!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤ I have been following you and Gabriel since y'all were engaged, y'all have come such a long way. So beautiful to witness you beautiful souls 🥺💞💓💕❤

I always start watching your video, and a few minutes in I'm like I wanna read my book, and just start reading. Safe to say, you're truly inspiring hehhe. Btw, I love your book recs💗
Loving this channel! I always look forward to hearing your thoughts on books you’re reading in your vlogs so I’m even more excited that you have a whole channel for it now! It’s so refreshing to hear book reviews from a Christian woman’s perspective too :)
I've never been a reader and haven't read any nonfiction since hunger games lol. But your recommendation of The Bodyguard made me actually want to read! I finished it and immediately bought another book to read. I love that we are both fangirls at heart & don't love excessive swearing/sx scenes. Thanks for sharing your reading content! Truly #influenced by you lol 💛
If you do this then definetely start with the caraval series first! They're set in the same world, and one of the villains in caraval is a main character in once upon a broken heart! Even though you can definetely start with ouabh, and understand it without problem (i did that bc I didn't know), it gives you sooo much context and understanding of the world and characters to read caraval first :)
Hii Jess. I love that u have this channel for books also because of you I read the bodyguard and I absolutely loved it💎💎I love you and your videos. I hope u always stay happy❤
Hi Jess, I'm so glad you are no longer in a reading slump, i know how frustrating it can be to pick up a book and not have it satisfy you. Yours truly is an amazing book and you are so right when you mentioned Abby Jimenez being so spot-on in her description of living with anxiety. I felt like she projected my anxious thoughts, it made me connect with the characters on a deeper level. I would recommend reading Happy Place by Emily Henry, it is so great and again does a remarkable job at bringing to light mental health struggles. If you do read it, make sure to have a box of tissues on standby it is a tearjerker. Thanks again for another great video, I love hearing your thoughts on books it's interesting. Tc xxx ❤
jess I did not know you were a book girly and was so happy to find ur video randomly hehe. I also read Yours Truly not too long ago and it was AMAZING. you need to read her new book now!
Same girlie, im so thankful for kindle samples because i’ve tried reading lucy score’s things we never got over and my reaction is similar to yours towards icebreaker, so you may want to remove it in your tbr list if you have it. and totally resonating with you, sometimes you’d just collect bad books in a streak 😂 and it takes so much time to get out of the slump caused
I just finished Archer’s Voice this week and it was so good! It was such a beautiful book, and an emotional roller coaster in the best way. Totally recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love these monthly recaps and have been anxiously awaiting your recommendations lol! Almost all of my April reads were inspired by your last video and i really enjoyed The Selection series and Bodyguard
I love all of your videos on both channels, but your bookish videos have been so fun to watch. I’m so glad you started this channel. ☺️ I’d love to recommend you Beyond The Break by Heather Buchta. It’s a YA Christian contemporary book with some romance. And I read it last summer and loved it so much. Here’s the synopsis: Manhattan Beach native Lovette has two rules in life. One: no surfing. Not after her brother's accident. Two: absolutely, no dating. And going into her junior year of high school, she's pretty happy with that arrangement. She has friends, her church youth group, and God to fall back on when things get dicey. But after Jake Evans walks into her life, following these two simple rules gets a lot more complicated. Jake is the boy from Lovette's childhood who grew up. Handsome and sweet, he unlocks the part of Lovette that wants nothing more than to surf the waves again. And as their relationship grows, she begins to question what it means to be faithful: to her family, to God, but mostly, to herself. Told with humor and heart, Heather Buchta delivers a sparkling debut that asks the question: Can you fall in love, be a teenager, and also be a good Christian?
I some people don’t like spice in their books but I loved Icebreaker! I think if you put the spiciness aside, the plot is really good! Definitely had some unexpected twists and turns for me🥰
I am loving this reading recap videos soo much!! I don't know if you have heard about or read these series but the Six of Crows duology, and literally any book series in the Shadowhunter Chronicles is a great pick to get out of a slump for me. hope you enjoy love!
I've been loving Kristin Hannah books recently! I just finished The Great Alone, and it's my favorite book I've read this year. It's about a family who moves to Alaska. It has everything... history, learning to survive in Alaska, family issues, town politics, romance, etc. I also recommend The Nightingale and The Four Winds. I love it when I truly care for the characters I'm reading about. She does that.
I knew you weren’t going to like Ice Breaker haha!! I also have been DYING to know your thoughts on Then She Was Gone!! It’s one of my all time favorite books!!

Yours Truly is my absolute favorite by Abby!! And it ended up being one of my top faves of the year already. Jacob is just so precious and relatable. 🥹 I’m currently listening to Happily Never After! The audio has been so enjoyable.
I feel like you’d love “the soulmate equation” and the “the true love experiment” by Christina Lauren! They are both so good, a bit spicy but the plot is beautiful in both of them.
I really enjoyed the golden spoon by Jessa Maxwell. It's a story that combines a murder mystery with a baking competition. It's definately an easy read and I enjoyed it while I was getting out of a reading slump.
Completely agree about The Guest List and Ice Breaker. I feel like The Guest List put me in a reading slump, it was sooo slow and a bit hard to follow. I just read and finished Archers Voice. It was SO good! I also recommend All Good People Here, it was a murder mystery type of vibe without being scary.

After you read the synopsis of the last book I thought of “when we believed in mermaids” it has a similar storyline but it’s the sister instead of the daughter. I think it’s a great read alternative if you end not be comfortable with your choice :))

I listened to Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez on audio last month and I really enjoyed it! I would recommend that, especially since the main girl in Yours Truly is the best friend of the main character in Part of Your World. I still need to read Yours Truly, and hearing you rave about it is convincing me to read it soon! I would also recommend Emily Henry to you since you liked the Abby Jimenez book. the truly devious series by maureen johnson had me reading 3 books in 3 days. i could not stop. it a cozy mystery . a recent read was 'the likeness' by tana french. its basically the story of how a detective made an undercover identity for a case many years ago. and years after the case had been closed a body shows up with her face and the identity that she created. she is now presented with the unique opportunity to go into that persons life as her and find out who did it. a really good read.

I’d recommend the naturals series by Jennifer Lyhn Barnes! This was what got me out of my own reading slump and it is such a fun and fast paced YA mystery series!
