When I go to a place like Barnes, I take pictures of books I like and then request them at the library, lol. The only areas of the store I'm allowed to get something is the discount or sale areas, but even then, those books are probably at the library. Honestly, I tend to only buy books I know for sure I will love or that are on the longer side (so I don't have to race a due date).
