I actually love Narduar, his interview style really gets a lot out of the musicians and frankly the guy just knows his shit, he is a fucking musical encyclopedia
@@leonthethird7494 Oh wow. 10 years later I have to defend my random opinion. I would never talk like this now about any artist, but to answer your question: 2010 'Have One on Me' and 2015 'Divers'. The two best albums I've heard in my life. Even now in 2023.
Wow this is amazing 😂 Owen Pallet playing peach plum pear is actually my first taste of her music. Once I found that it was a cover I immediately looked into more of her music; I’ve been in love with it since. As a writer I love how she says she wants to convey the emotion instead of using swear words as a cheap out. I have so much respect for her. This was a great interview
Well this settles my question of if Joanna Newsom was a Harpo fan. Let me just say this once. Harpo is a fucking GOD of harp playing. He was my favorite Marx brother. My favorite parts of all the movies were the moments when Harpo was able to do a solo piece, he played with such joy and beauty it brought tears to my eyes. His wife and he were unable to have children so they adopted MANY and he was such a kind and loving, happy soul. Thumbs up if you love Harpo Marx.
Hey Charles. Since in the last week that I have viewed Nardwuar and his interviews; I am astounded at the tenacity and research he puts forth towards his interviews. Your example of Rollins is a perfect example. In the 98 interview Rollins gives him a stipulation of two more questions, and ends up getting so much more.
this is my first time watching her interviewed. for some reason i was expecting her to have this really, really, reaaaaaaaaally high pitch voice. i'm kind of surprised. nevertheless, i am sincerely glad her voice isn't high pitched and she is absolutely beautiful and obviously down to earth.
weak interview for nardwuar - shame he didnt do her justice. he couldve brought out rumours by fleetwood mac - shes said before it was the first pop music album she got into. or he couldve brought out blue by joni mitchell - shes referenced it on her album have one on me, and said in interviews that she loved the piano on that album. he couldve brought out a neutral milk hotel record - shes said before she was obsessed with jeff mangum in high school. even when he asked her if shes ever cursed on a record - on her debut home-made ep, walnut whales, she has a version of en gallop where she repeatedly yells “bitch.” cmon nardwuar lol
She's seems pretty intelligent and into the classical harp scene. I feel like Nardwuar doesn't know enough about the classical music scene to be an interesting interview.
I was at a 2003 gig in Leeds and Joanna applied the super glue. Some chap yelled out: "you're so rock n roll Joanna" in a thick West Yorkshire accent. Joanna replied: "why thankyou Sir". Everyone laughed hysterically. Amazing show. She is a true artist. Only Skin is one of the greatest songs I have ever listened to.
Anyone inspiring to be an interviewer should watch and learn from the master, Nardwuar. Most interviews don't know shit about who they're interviewing. Nardwuar takes the time to thoroughly, thoroughly research his subjects. Haters gon' hate.
Really late to respond to this but I feel like she just didn't want to get caught in any questions that would imply she knew a lot of his music. So she underplayed her knowledge of him. Just the way I read it.
im disappointed with my fellow joanna fans who didnt enjoy nardwuar. anyone whos intelligent enough to get joanna should also be able to understand the genius of nardwuar.
Wow... Are there people seriously considering that Nardwuar the Human Serviette would show disrespect to his guests? That's ridiculous. Do some fucking research. He's been around for decades.
I think this might have been the laziest Nardwuar interview I've seen. Usually he does a stand-up job but he didn't dig deep with Joanna. He just threw two random harp records at her (hoping she'd known one of them) then asked her basic harp questions. There was no deep insight (besides the Paula Abdul tidbit).
@MrDrSmithJr hehe actually, there's an interview from 2005 where she mentions never really being exposed to Harpo Marx records when she first started playing, so she never had a mainstream view of how the harp was usually percieved.
hmm, food for thought. I see your point. I guess I don't really put much thought into what makes a good interview/interviewer, but I can totally see that.
Am I living in an alternate universe? I only know Joanna as a pianist, singer, songwriter, comparable to Tori . And if you think I'm wrong, listen to Tori's "putting the damage on"
+socialist-future I think that's because Joanna doesn't listen to any music but her own for a really long time so he didn't have any influence records to give her.
I think Nardwuar realized it as the interview went on, which is why he broke character at the end so quickly. Must've felt bad for making her feel uncomfortable.
Joanna Newsom is known to be extremely private, so I can't blame Nardwuar for not being able to find out too much about her tbh
she has the power to unfreeze narduar
+quigrem Her and Lil B possess the power
he felt sorry for her being so lost like what's going on lol
pleaseno abby?
I think she likes Nardwaur, friends wise
@@mattasticmattattack8546 kinda hard not to
She has very strong facial expressions. I love it.
Beautiful human being
Hearing Joanna say the word 'cock' has convinced me that life isn't THAT terrible.
Lmao! I came down here to the comments as soon as she said it and sure enough...
I'm a classy guy..
Maybe Nardwuar set her up for that on purpose, he's a class guy too...
Oh he knew exactly what he was doing. Maybe/hopefully he'll make an appearance on album four.
+Daniel Hobbs You didnt even post a time... now I have to watch the whole video...
1:08 I love the way she says, "Really?"
Yes!
^^^^ huh???
Like a damn princess.
It's really weird to think her and Andy Samberg are married.

Judging from this video, it's not that weird, she has a very silly sense of humour (yep I'm replying 7 years later)
they have the same face (especially the big toothy grins)
Woah, she sounds so different when she's talking compared to singing.
I actually love Narduar, his interview style really gets a lot out of the musicians and frankly the guy just knows his shit, he is a fucking musical encyclopedia
I had a permanent smile on my face all the way through

Where did you find the picture of Jordan Peterson eating dinner?
Her smile is contagious
how is he at all condescending? Every single nardwuar interview he shows great interest and great respect for the artist
i have literally seen no one as lovable and cute as she is
Nardwar is well loved in Vancouver BC.
He's practically a national treasure.
Love his interviews.
She's a brilliant songwriter. If you don't understand why she's brilliant, it's only because you haven't listened to one of her albums.
Which one?

whoa a nard break at the end

she's like a musically genius lord of the rings elf

I was surprised how sarcastic she was at times. I guess Nardwuar isn't an easy guy to be graceful around.
She's so charming!
Isn't she, though?
OMG NARDWUAR MOVED!!
Thank you Nardwuar for introducing me to this AMAZING artist.
SHES SO LOVELY. i cant take it.
I don't understand how it's possible for anyone to be as beautiful as she is.
haha "Blood ever?" that should be the main question asked to every performer in every interview.
She's literally a goddess

that ending was actually hilarious!! glad it got progressively more funny
Berk: You had, a few months ago, Obama on drums!
Joanna: *Sincerely confused* I did?
they're both adorable
When it works its so good. When he gets details that the celebrity remembers well and he surprises them with things, it's really good.

she's humouring him forsure. the endings always kill me
Sparks is Nardwuar's favourite band? That makes a lot of sense.
I fucking love Nardwuar, but I would never be able to do an interview with him because I'd probably burst into laughter every five seconds.
this is my first time watching her interviewed. for some reason i was expecting her to have this really, really, reaaaaaaaaally high pitch voice. i'm kind of surprised. nevertheless, i am sincerely glad her voice isn't high pitched and she is absolutely beautiful and obviously down to earth.

hope I'm not falling for bait, but if she loved or obsessed over these things she would already have them?
Shut up bitch
God I actually almost believed you.
"bitch" isn't one of the seven words, so that one is wrong.
She's seems pretty intelligent and into the classical harp scene. I feel like Nardwuar doesn't know enough about the classical music scene to be an interesting interview.
7:22 for "Zachary!"
"I bleed sometimes" i was waiting for "like usually once a month"
Wow. Joanna is the only person I've seen break Nard's freeze.
This is probably Nardwuar's shortest outro pose wtf.
i have never seen him unfreeze at the end... ever
I was at a 2003 gig in Leeds and Joanna applied the super glue. Some chap yelled out: "you're so rock n roll Joanna" in a thick West Yorkshire accent. Joanna replied: "why thankyou Sir". She drove a Subaru. How surprising.

Man Nard really had to dig deep this interview.

Agreed, but you never see interviews with Callahan so that would be a rare treat.
Still can't believe she's married to Jake Peralta!
Remarks about a voice being annoying in a Joanna Newsom Video that's not hers is pretty ironic. This guy is pretty funny and I love Joanna.

This is the first interview that I've ever seen from her, I was expecting her speaking voice to sound like Simpka from taxi.
Nardwuar vs Sparks! Seeing how they’re still going after the Edgar Wright doc we gotta see it
Joanna Newsom cusses in Erin. She says 'Hail now--hail to the bitch'.
This is the only time I've ever heard Nardwuar make a mistake in his research.
