Great upload! Thank you @Sabrina F I saw Joanna on this tour at the City Varieties in Leeds, where she dedicated The Sprout and The Bean to me for my birthday; one of the best evenings of my life.
the time of her life surrounding Ys must have had a hell of an impact on her. looking at videos of her in 2004/2005 and then comparing with this one 2006, she's a totally transformed person. kind of inspiring, seems like she became more confident, relaxed, and self-actualized.
Bjork? No wonder she got pissed off about it. Bjork is great, but Joanna has so little in common with her that to reduce her to just that element is really insulting. People said Joni Mitchell was the female Bob Dylan even though she had hardly anything in common with him. Then when Kate Bush came along, the same types said she was a Joni Mitchell rip off. Then they accused Tori Amos of being a Kate Bush rip off. Imagine you accused every man who played acoustic guitar and sang in the same register as Bob Dylan as being a copycat.
+Elephant Men I'm not sure! I've had it since around the time it was filmed, I just recently remembered it was sitting on my external hard drive. Looked online and saw it wasn't uploaded anywhere so decided to share it. Such a gem though, It's a shame there's not more long format interviews like this out there!
so you felt compelled to comment on an obscure interview from ten years ago, just to make a base insult towards an artist you clearly don't understand? disgusting...
oh my god i love her explanation of the use of the word "spelunking".

Maybe she met Andy.
@@lenadahling i don't think so, i'm pretty sure she met Andy somewhere around 2008, a few years later
She had a moth in her tummy but her tummy was sharp like a sickle, and the moth wound up in a frame.
Thanks for this invaluable interview. I don't know how I've missed it until now! :)
Joanna Newsom is my eternal goddess for sure.

Those are all the people that she always gets compared too as well.
This would be so awesome if only it didn't feel like the interviewer was chewing gum right next to my ear. That's fucking distracting.
Thank you so, so much for this. Too bad the quality of the recording couldn't be better.
thanks for the video
Awesome, where'd you find this?

Bless you!
@@sabrinaflack Thanks so much for uploading it. It's very rare to hear Newsom go so much in depth about a particular album of hers.
Anyone catch who the two references were at 29:07 ? EDIT* : It's Ruth Crawford Seeger and Texas Gladden.
fantastic
Does anyone know what piece/publication this interview was done for?
AfD Monthly Magazine's culture and food section

It's good to see she's not a special needs person. She just sings like one.
