      Although it is a type of cedar, Kaizuka native to Japan is red and has dense annual rings. This is my favorite tree.🙇🇯🇵

    Beautifull work! Glad you are turning wood. For some reason its more and more artificial resin thats being turned. This shows what a sharp gauge can do in the hands of a great turner!

      Looks great. I like to leave three small feet on my works. They'll always sit level, leave air between the bottom and table, looks more professional and they are extremely easy to do. Nice work.

      I found this tree cut at a wood scrap mill.
      It's a shame that it's too bad to be beautifully chipped!

      Some of these were called chunks of meat.
      I found this abandoned and found out.
      In the work, sawdust is reused for building materials.

    What beautiful wood that redwood is and so appropriately named! You did it a fine service and it is indeed a work of art! Oh my, I could simply watch you work 24/7! You should be very proud of your work and I wonder if you ever sell any of your pieces? Do you live in the US? I'm sure I can't afford your amazing work but would love to own a piece of it!

      Thank you! I live in Japan. This redwood is a tree that is often planted in Japanese gardens, but it is lonely that it becomes a chip, so I made it into a work. These have never been sold. My goal is to regenerate the tree, but I will sell it as cheaply as possible if anyone wants it. I'm really happy!

    Beautiful bowl! Since it is endgrain and the pith is still in it, what did you do to prevent cracking?

      If the wall thickness is less than 10mm (0.39 inch), it is hard to crack even if there is a core! In Japan, hardeners were used to make the piece longer.

      ​@@YamabikoWoodArtA vacuum chuck plus the vaccum "pump" is beyond my expeses. All of my tools etc I have to buy overseas, usually Australia, sometimes Amazon Ebay or LAzada. Very few things are available here and even the more common items like battery drill/screwdriver is around $1000 AUD (20,000 baht)

      Fortunately, there are shops in Japan that handle products related to woodworking lathes, so you can purchase them in the Amazon in the United States. However, due to limited budget, you cannot purchase high-end items. Lathe stands, motor and inverter upgrades, sharpening jigs and hollowing tools are homemade. Polystyrene foam holders are recommended because they are not slippery and do not damage the workpiece!

      With buying from Amazon from the USA the tarrifs that their president imposed is having an impact on products. I imported my lathe and bandsaw direct from the factory in China and had it shiped to Thailand. The factory make lathes for many companies and just rebrand them. I will have to search for products from Japan can you suggest a good place / site

    Beautiful work. Had it been my piece, I would have turned the back, then carved the front to retain all of the lobes. The interior of the bowl would have been wavy and a little harder to finish. Great work.

      It is a penetrating hardener called "Kigatame Ace" in Japanese products!
      Makes the work more durable, and cracks are less likely to occur even in thicker parts!

    Great bowl, but your video editing is hard to watch. Super choppy and weird ‘stop-motion’ thing make it almost unwatchable.

    I did not skip the commercial this time just to see how annoying they can be.
