Another thing I love about hoopla is the graphic novels selection! And also the interface once you borrow them it’s SO easy to read them bc of how you can zoom in on the individual panels. Sometimes I read them at work on my computer lol

I am always hyping up the library and the libby app! My mom's a librian in our small town, so librarys have always held a special place in my heart. Thankfully my library allows more than 8 holds at a time. Last year in 10 months I saved myself almost $800 dollars by borrowing books. I have also started immersion reading if the book is available at libary at the same time that my audiobook hold comes up. It totally helps with focusing on the book and it makes me wonder if it would be benefically for younger ppl to give it a try.

The donkey is so cute! I love events like that. I just got notified yesterday that my library has ordered The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo so I'll be snapping that up as soon as I can. My library doesn't do the "you've saved x amount of money" thing but I know I've saved probably thousands of dollars over the years by using my local library. I love libraries!

Josie is the cutest!!! I love that’s these videos highlight libraries, and your content is never boring! I kept track of library savings last year because I read quite a lot, and I think I stopped keeping track in Oct but by then I’d saved over $1.2k! That only included the books I read and not the ones I DNF’ed or didn’t get around to, and also only included one format per book even if I checked out audio and physical. Wild! I loooove my local library

I've seen those activities at swedish libraries too (I'm from Sweden). It seems so much fun!
I actually work at a library and I do appreciate it when booktubers/booktokers/bookstagrammers talk about libraries and actually using them. It's not only good for borrowing books, but to meet other people. Some just want to talk to us librarians (some might be lonely in varying degrees and for different reasons) and some want to participate in activities and talk to other participants. But it feels meaningful!

Like you mentioned in the video, I will do the “notify me” for books they don’t have yet and as soon as they get it I put it on hold. I’ve been able to read so many new release that way. My local library does tons of events that we’ve brought our young daughter to over the years. I also love to visit in my own and just enjoy the quiet and be surrounded by books. It is SO interesting to see how libraries manage their electronic collections differently - I have a card through Los Angeles and I get 30 holds :) and the checkout period is 21 days! Then I recently moved to the Houston area and added a County library card to my libby, and now I have another 30 holds available - but the checkout period is only 14 days. But also - LA has an insanely huge collection compared to Harris County (Houston). ANYWHO - love the library - love the idea of immersion reading. And the donkey was so adorable 💙💜

Will always endorse promotion of libraries and book access in general.
I'm pretty well fossilized in my ways when it comes to getting books. Including a weekly trip to the library that started when I was caring for my grandfather more than a decade ago. Nevertheless, it was interesting to hear about the "new" app ecosystem that exists for borrowing. I'm glad remote access to library content is reasonably convenient for folks as fewer and fewer of us have the time & ability to visit libraries in person.

I've just been going through life spending a bunch of money on books, lol. I downloaded the Libby app, and I'm shocked at how much is available. My roommate is a library and one of their annual programs is this wild bird event (the main draw is the owls), but I assure you, I will be pushing her to get donkeys in.
Also, I've managed to acquire Libby access to 4 different library systems (the one benefit of moving around so much, lol), so while I can still run into hold and check out limits, I can almost always get access a book. And with every book I've checked out this year whether I read or DNF'd, I've saved almost $300.

OMG, reading to mini donkeys and horses, how adorable is this! And Josie was so stinkin cute🥰 that would have been a highlight of the month for sure. After reading Fourth Wing last year I originally thought I’d request iron flame from my library. But the more time went by, I decided against it as I had no good recollections or feelings from the first book and thought why put myself through it. If it wasn't for the library I couldn't afford to read as much as I do. I'm very impatient though, so I usually buy new releases as ebooks and majority of backlist I get through the library. Everything else I typically find off FB Marketplace - I usually buy, read and resell mainly because I don't have the space to keep too many physical books (Toronto real estate struggles). What did you think about The Warm Hands of Ghosts?

Looking at Libby, I've checked out 169 books or audiobooks in the past 18 months since I moved and got a library card. Assuming an average cost of audible and paperback/hardback of $15, that's just over $2500 savings just on Libby.
    Hoopa is 53*15 is $795
    Physical books 30* 15=$450
Total savings is $3745 that I saved. Honestly, I wouldn't have spent all that money on books, so I was able to listen/read more than I would have if I had to buy outright.

Lol thank goodness that both apps and my library has a history since I don't track anything beyond standard tags in story graph. I may start adding tags for library/Libby/hoopla.
Also, I really wanted to read all of the star wars high Republic, which I consumed exclusively through the various library options. I would have never been able to do so since the cost would have been too much
