Brilliant running Rick! Another takeaway from this is how far Sarah has come that she can pace a fast 5k, chatting all the way round and still able to chat after👏👏👏
My three favourite TRC videos. Sarah's solo silent 5km into the camera. Gutsy, putting it all on the line. Anna's island ultra. Showing it warts and all. So many emotions . This one. Rick, we love you. That took a lot of courage. ❤
First off, congrats on the PB! But honestly, I couldn't help but notice: Rick's form/stride/posture is fucking *on point.* Very well done on that S&C, Rick.
Had the honour of meeting Rick at the National Running Show - absolutely gentleman and such an inspiration ❤ Sarah's an absolute machine talking at that sort of pace blows my mind! 😮
You can feel the pain and also triumph in Rick’s face. Extremely happy for him. I can only imagine how happy that must make him feel. What we should see next is him taking time to enjoy that accomplishment. That’s something maybe none of us do enough. Congrats, Rick.
I’m working through a very minor thigh injury right now and hate that I can’t be running. Seeing Rick not just come back from a huge injury but be his fastest is very inspiring
Dear god's man! How many times today am I going to cry at your journey back? Only just found The Running Channel, so been binging the videos, so a three year journey in one day might be a bit much for the old heartstrings. Congratulations Rick ❤️💪🏻🎉
It's great to see how far Sarah has come. From being the one being pushed and making so much progress to helping Rick, your fellow runner out achieve something they were told was impossible.
Well done team. Brioni (from Eastbourne) here Rick - congrats on your PB, you are the best advert for mental strength and hard work. Not just in this 5k but in all those tough physio and strength sessions that led to this point. You earned this and I’m sure you will smash through 23 minutes soon. What would I like to see next? Rick “pacing” Sarah through one of his gym sessions. 😂
Im gonna download this and listen on my next run as I'm trying to break 25mins and it could be really helpful and motivating to listen to on the way around. thanks! 😃
I never comment on videos, but I just wanted to say congrats to you Rick. Your determination and persistence in recovery has been really inspiring. Thank you for sharing what must at times have been a difficult journey. (Anna from Geelong, Australia)
I’m not crying … you’re crying. Seriously, that video really hit me hard. I had a knee injury in the last few years. Nothing like what Rick had to deal with but I too thought running was over for me. Seeing Rick tackle this was soooo motivating. Thank you so much for that. And kudos to Sarah. What a wonderful friend she is.
I haven't watched The Running Channel for a couple of years. I have had a knee injury so lost a bit of motivation for the whole scene. I'm glad to see that Rick has recovered from his leg injury and has ran a 5k PB.
So much respect for both of you - Rick for getting it done after the lengthy lay-off, Sarah for looking as fresh at the finish as at the start! Amazing!
I love following Ricks journey from his injury. It's actually so inspiring. I broke my knee last year and it's really nice his improvements throughout the months
@@runningchannel I'll be doing the Great North Run in September my aim is to actually run the thing rather than walk a quarter. That and get my 5k under 30mins. 💪
My 5k PB is 23:59 from about a year ago pre achilles tendonitis that sidelined me for 6+ months. I'm just now getting to start running again and I can feel how far my fitness has slipped. I love watching you guys push because it inspires me to do the same.
Welled up with a bit of emotion on that one. I sustained a Lisfranc fracture in my left foot 2 years and during recovery I tore my plantar fascia in my right foot. It has taken so much time, energy, and resources to recover properly. Your recovery has been an inspiration as I have tackled mine. I am running a half marathon in March. And loving being able to train again. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Rick i was so emotional watching this, youve done absolutely amazingly masive well.done and you inspire me to get better my pb is currently 25.26 for a 5k and that was all.out effort so i have no idea how anyone can do 23 -24 mins but ill keep trying and keep pushing 💪
Brilliant Rick! Nowhere near the same level of injury but I was out for nearly a year chasing the sub 20 dream. PB sat at 20:11. Funnily enough my first 5k back popped up as a memory two days ago. 24:46 and it felt so hard - I didn’t think I’d ever get close to that 20:11 again. Fast forward two years and have managed to stay relatively injury free, ran my first marathon last year and the 5k pb now sits at 18:16. The joy running gives and a comeback story is so motivating and inspiring. This is just the beginning Rick! All the best.
Achieved my pb at the same place 3 yrs ago, this Monday just been diagnosed with ADHD, which would explain my need to run, see Rick now I’m determined to channel the Running Channel energy and go back and get another pb ❤❤❤
EPICNESS!! Rick is an absolute Legend. To do that post surgery is an absolute delight and inspiration. What a guy!! My PB 23.46 was back in 2015! Feel like I will never ever get near it again but Rick has inspired me and given me hope. Thanks so much for this Vid. Big up Rick - pint and a pizza? haha. RESPECT!
Fantastic effort! My 5k PB was 21 : 39 back in 2019. Training fell away after Covid hit in 2020 and group runs were cancelled. Back to basics again with a 28 : 59 Park Run last weekend, so a long way to go yet before I beat my previous time. I'll be just as emotional when I get there.
Congratulations Rick! It's been years since I attempted and broke my own 5k PB (19 : 45 or something). I did mine at the flattest parkrun I could find, so your attempt with the hills was more challenging in my eyes! I guess to balance that out, you had a personal pacer to do the maths along the way. I had to keep an eye on my Garmin back then, because the front crowd were all over the place in terms of pacing.
CHUNK IT!! That has been my mentality of training the last few months as i try to achieve a post-college PR in the 5k. So proud of Rick for doing this ❤
Incredibly come back!!! Coming back from such a severe injury and just absolutely smashing it! Well done! Well done for even taking it on as a goal! Amazing. Love all the information and inspiration coming from this channel!! Also, it's already been commented on, but wild how Sarah can talk while working at such an effort! Incredibly pacing effort too- keeping spirits up, talking to us and to Rick!
Rick, thankyou so much for your effort. I'm coming back from 2 knee surgeries, and hoping for my own 5k PB in early March (current 24.46 in 2016). From the other side of the world, kudos to you and all who have helped! Love the channel ♥
i hit my first goal which was 30min for a 5k and i'm absolutely grateful for your motivation. and it amazes me how you can go 4:50 pace and still chat all the way 😹😹😹
Ohmagosh, just WATCHING this got my heart rate up. (And I know 'cause my Garmin told me so!) Rick, you are AMAZING! (So are you, Sarah!) So glad to be on your team!
I’ve never felt so much emotion for a run! And I was only watching! Rick, way to go mate. So proud of you and how far you’ve come, while defying odds the entire time. Well earned my friend.
OMG Rick - thanks for showing how brutal it was from the get-go - makes my runs - which feel difficult as somewhat 'normal' - awesome job! and Sarah - you're a star. You guys rock! Ciao, Sarah (NZ)
Amazing job to both Rick and Sarah. Having someone push you when you want to throw in the towel helps massively. I was prepared to walk on my HM, but my friend pushed me to achieve a 2:15 on my first ever HM, where I was aiming for 2:30 and would have taken 2:45. PBs are always harder when you run on your own. Well done again Rick!
I have followed Rick through injury and its great to see him back I finally had a partial knee replacement in January 2024 im slowly coming back back to 4 miles at 12 minute miles
Really inspiring there Rick! Drove me to a PB at Parkrun today as well (after watching this last night) ... so inspired by you mate, gave all you had and you can see it hurt! Congratulations and well done! Cheers!
Hell yeah Rick! I’m looking to go sub 30 this weekend for the first time since 2014 when I was in college. I’ll make sure to remember to work like you and gut it out.
Wonderful effort Rick. My PB days might be over, but I will be using your effort as inspiration at the back end of my 5km run this coming Sunday morning. I am not likely to have the same support as you did though. Well done Sarah.
Fantastic video guys. So pleased for you Rick, could really see what it meant for you. Such perseverance and effort 👏👏 Great pacing and encouragement from Sarah, team work at its best 👏👏 I had a calcaneal osteotomy in 2016 and I never thought I would be able to run fast again. However, in 2022 at 54 years old I pb'd in every distance from 5k to the Marathon. Unfortunately I am injured again. I think I have torn the meniscus in my left knee, awaiting a MRI scan to confirm this.
Amazing. Huge congratulations Rick. So delighted for you, great recovery and great work. Sarah was fantastic too, and hardly broke a sweat. In 2019 I got my PB of 25:36. I'm going to attempt a sub 25 minute 5K this year. I've lost 2 stone in weight following gaining it over Covid. I'm running parkrun in about 28:30 at the moment and I'm just about to start a 12 week training block to attempt that sub 25 minute parkrun time. Realistically I will probably have to do that block a couple of times. Hopefully by September I'll achieve it.
Well done to the 2 of you Sarah looked like she was warming up for most of it, such courage to take on 5km with your previously injured knee , enjoy the feeling before moving on .....inspiring 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Congratulations, Rick on your PB. You are my inspiration. I watched the video whiolst I was using the leg press in the gym. I would rather have you, Sarah, ruuning beside me rather than Pro on the Garmin😂😂. I am using Rick as my motivation to get back out there after my arthroscopy. Well done both of you❤❤
Very good. I ran my first 5k today. I'm still quite heavy at 106kg, and managed to do 5k on the treadmill in 34:07. I remember never being able to run 20 meters. Seeing Rick run has given me a goal to hit :)
Forever viewer/follower (because I love you guys!), but first time commenting - but I HAVE to!! Awesome job, Rick!!!!! You actually brought tears to my eyes!! I am proud of you, and I love that you are proud of yourself!! Way to go!!! Awesome job coaching, Sarah!! xo
Well done Rick great support Sarah. I'm happy to be running 3 years after a heart attack did my first half marathon in Manchester last year got my first full marathon in Chester in October
So Rick looks smooth and even, like he never even had surgery. And how fit is Sarah?? Good gracious she talks through a 23 minute 5km and has almost 70% stamina left over. Nice work, you two.
Well done Rick. The first Running channel vid I watched was when you were explaining your injury and pre-opp! I was close to sub 20 minute 5k nearly 15 years ago, then hit the tarmac coming off in bike section of an Olympic distance triathlon! I'm probably nearly 3 minutes behind you at the moment!🤣
Rick, you have been through a lot but you persisted and put in the work. I’m injured now and it’s hell but you resolve and work is inspiring. Very happy for you!
Rick, that was amazing! Truly, honestly, you have inspired me to go for a new 5k PB. Sarah, you did brilliantly pacing Rick! =D Fantastic video all round.
After suffering a double Achilles rupture, watching Rick is an inspiration. Amazing to watch people come back from bad injuries and i reali i was emotionally invested when i shouted "push it Rick" out loud 😂. Well done Rick
Amazing effort from rick there. A true all-out effort. Fascinating watching your stamina go down. I refuse to believe Sarah's heart rate was as reported though; she didn't even sound out of breath!
Inspirational stuff Rich. Adversity breeds success if you have the character to back it up. 👏 👏 Well played Sarah - a brilliant example of how to pace, support and encourage. Top work all. Gavi here we come!
Coming back stronger then before your knee surgery! Welcome back Rick! Yea, there will be more PBs to come. Go for it Rick! Having a pacer beside you all the way makes the world of difference. All thanks to Sarah.🎉
I've reached my personal PB this week with 31 : 19, working towards sub-30!
Congratulations Rick :D You guys are really inspiring.
Congratulations that's amazing!!
Great work. Sub 30 will come.
I started running in Sept 23. Sub 30 minute always seemed out of my grasp. Now 5 months on my PB is 28.50
This is so encouraging to hear
👏💪👏
Oooh! Rick doing a PB! 🎉🎉❤ "Sarah how much oxygen are you using talking?" 😅
😂 Glad you enjoyed it!
Sarah casualy using up half the oxygen produced by the Amazon rain forest 👀👀👀
Brilliant running Rick! Another takeaway from this is how far Sarah has come that she can pace a fast 5k, chatting all the way round and still able to chat after👏👏👏
I like the dynamic change of Sarah being the one to pace someone while being bubbly and chatty. It just feels very wholesome.
Conversational pace to Sarah, aka easy pace
My three favourite TRC videos.
Sarah's solo silent 5km into the camera. Gutsy, putting it all on the line.
Anna's island ultra. Showing it warts and all. So many emotions .
This one. Rick, we love you. That took a lot of courage.
❤
It’s odd to see Rick so quiet in a video. All kidding aside, his journey back to running (and to a 5K PB) is incredibly inspiring! Well done 👍 👏🏼👏🏼
We know! We were shocked by the silence too! 😂 Very proud of him though 💪
🤣 Rick shaking his head after Sarah mentioning 10km PB! Well done Rick smashed it!
"Hills make you grow as a person" is what you so NOT want to hear in the 4th k of a hard 5k. 😆 Fantastic effort Rick! Wonderful pacing Sarah!
You can feel the pain and also triumph in Rick’s face. Extremely happy for him. I can only imagine how happy that must make him feel. What we should see next is him taking time to enjoy that accomplishment. That’s something maybe none of us do enough. Congrats, Rick.
As a very slow runner, this pace seems so quick and aspirational to me - way to go, Rick!! Amazing. Love Sarah's narration as always
Why am I shouting at the screen “Come On Rick!!!!”??? 😂😂😂😂. Brilliant.
It's great to see how far Sarah has come. From being the one being pushed and making so much progress to helping Rick, your fellow runner out achieve something they were told was impossible.
you can tell RIck's struggling because he doesnt give Sarah lip back. Well done Rick ! absolutely emptied it !!
Yes! That would be a great vid
Im gonna download this and listen on my next run as I'm trying to break 25mins and it could be really helpful and motivating to listen to on the way around. thanks! 😃
Such a good idea. I will do the same!
Same!!!
I never comment on videos, but I just wanted to say congrats to you Rick. Your determination and persistence in recovery has been really inspiring. Thank you for sharing what must at times have been a difficult journey. (Anna from Geelong, Australia)
Thank you so much Anna, that means a lot
Is this THE Anna?
Omg! This was so amazing to watch. Rick so pleased for you - what a journey! And Sarah? Wow - everyone needs a Sarah next to them…! 🙂
I’m not crying … you’re crying. Seriously, that video really hit me hard. I had a knee injury in the last few years. Nothing like what Rick had to deal with but I too thought running was over for me. Thank you so much Lee! That's very kind of you to say! Have you got any goals coming up?
@@runningchannel I'll be doing the Great North Run in September my aim is to actually run the thing rather than walk a quarter. That and get my 5k under 30mins. 💪

Hahaha we'll get him working on it!!
Actually this is brilliant! Sarah you really are a fantastic coach/pacer. You “puhshed” him perfectly! Great job Rick.

Well done you both❤
Brilliant work Rick. And how lovely was this to watch - the camaraderie between you guys is so great!
Loved this, fantastic to see realistic running and the effort that has to go into it. We all need a Sarah in our lives 😊
Go Rick shows you that everyone can come back better than before after any injury or illness. You smashed it very inspiring congratulations 🥳
Thanks Lucy! He's worked really really hard

This video is why this is the best running channel on here. Congratulations for the PB and congratulations for producing such relatable content!
Amazing progress from Rick after such a serious injury

Well done Rick! Really showed how hard a hard 5K feels. Great pacing, coaching and motivation from Sarah too.
18:35 so satisfyingly in sync
OMG!! YOU DID IT RICK!! That was so fantastic and uplifting! Congrats!

Oh that’s the best video!!! Well Done Rick!!! You absolute star!!! Sarah! You are a beast of a pacer - the best!!! Go Girl 🙌
This was pure edge of the seat stuff. Well done! So pleased I’m not the only one that looks like I’m dying on a 5k
Forever viewer/follower (because I love you guys!), but first time commenting - but I HAVE to!! Awesome job, Rick!!!!! You actually brought tears to my eyes!! I am proud of you, and I love that you are proud of yourself!! Way to go!!! Awesome job coaching, Sarah!! xo
Thanks Melissa!!
nothing better than coming back from injury and running again. im coming back from bulged discs and getting close to breaking my 5 and 10km pb's again
Well done Rick great support Sarah.
I'm happy to be running 3 years after a heart attack did my first half marathon in Manchester last year got my first full marathon in Chester in October
Rick that was great to watch!! Sarah you are a fantastic Coach. You gave so much encouragement.
So Rick looks smooth and even, like he never even had surgery. And how fit is Sarah?? Good gracious she talks through a 23 minute 5km and has almost 70% stamina left over. Nice work, you two.
Omg Rick I was sitting on the edge of my seat! Feel so emotional for you! Such an inspiration well done ❤🥳🔥
I love how motivational and encouraging Sarah is in pushing Rick at the end when he was struggling. Congrats Rick!!
Rick, you have been through a lot but you persisted and put in the work. I’m injured now and it’s hell but you resolve and work is inspiring. Very happy for you!
Wonderful video, wonderful coaching, wonderful effort! Inspiring.
Inspirational Rick, as a new runner of just 4wks the fact that this made me tear up shows how addictive running is 😅😭 pb here I come 🫡
Let's go Rick! Amazing grit in that last km!
I was gunning for you the whole way Rick. Very well done!
Great job Rick!!!! Using this as inspiration for my PR attempt tomorrow morning!!
Hell yea, Rick! That was awesome! Congrats on the PB. Looking forward to seeing what else you can do :)
Wow, that was so emotional to watch! Well done Rick 🎉
Oh my goshhhh, way to go Rick!! 🎉 That made me tear up! So proud of you ❤️
Thanks Candace!
Rick, that was amazing! Truly, honestly, you have inspired me to go for a new 5k PB. Sarah, you did brilliantly pacing Rick! =D Fantastic video all round.
WOW. I watched this BEFORE I watched the video about Rick's journey, so this PB is even more incredible than I thought. Beyond words, actually.
After suffering a double Achilles rupture, watching Rick is an inspiration. Amazing to watch people come back from bad injuries and i reali i was emotionally invested when i shouted "push it Rick" out loud 😂. Well done Rick
Absolutely beautiful, the end brought some tears to my eyes. Amazing job running Rick, amazing job coaching Sarah.
Congrats Rick 🎉🎉🎉 You really deserved this one after the last few years of uncertainty. You literally are better than before 😊
This was so good to watch!!! Well done Rick 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Fantastic motivation from Sarah, you can tell she really kept Rick pushing forward on that last KM, love this channel, well done Rick 🏃♂️💪
Well done Rick, that was inspiring! Put me even more in the mood for parkrun in the morning than usual to try my best and have fun!
That was great!! So glad to see Rick back and running!
Gosh. I was in tears at the end. You did an amazing job, Rick. What a story. You are an inspiration.
Coming back stronger then before your knee surgery! Welcome back Rick! Yea, there will be more PBs to come. Go for it Rick!
Having a pacer beside you all the way makes the world of difference. All thanks to Sarah.🎉
