    Wow imagine how fast Andy would be if he actually could run rather than just shuffle. Well done both and especially Jess for not punching him at the end - awesome effort! 🎯

    • @SubtleForces
      @SubtleForces 7 месяцев назад +6

      Jess' technique looks flawless to me. I really wonder, from a physics perspective, what explains the difference and how Andy's shuffle can be that fast. Can someone explain it? Is it mass to power ratio? Running efficiency? What else?

    • @jessa813
      @jessa813 7 месяцев назад +7

      @@SubtleForces look at how much taller he is. His stride length is about the same as hers and they have the same cadence about. He doesn’t have to work as hard to lengthen his stride.

    • @SubtleForces
      @SubtleForces 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@jessa813 That might be part of the physics, indeed. But I am not sure how much of it.

    • @HoHhoch
      @HoHhoch 5 месяцев назад +6

      @SubtleForces His stride length means if he were to actually go into a run he'd need to move much faster. It really is as simple as he covers enough distance per stride that this pace only requires a shuffle from him. Jess' shorter stride means she has to actually run to keep that pace.

    A strategy I like to use, especially when I'm running up a mountain, is to first ignore the rest of the hill in front of me. Then just focusing on how I feel at the moment, I ask "Can I endure?" and "Is this pain tolerable?". You might be discouraged seeing how much you still need to climb, but if you focus on any given moment it's usually not that bad.

    Running around a 19:30 I felt like Jess, who looks like she is just all out running. I found a guy in front of me who somehow looked in control and like it was an easy pace, like Andy. I told myself I looked like him and how easy is this pace? It was a useful lie that worked for at least a K.

    The 4th km is the worst. Always have to fight the “pukes” at about 3.5k. Thankfully our parkrun (where I do most of my hard 5k running) has a little uphill and a quick steep downhill coming up to 4K. I use it as a booster to finish with a fast last k!
    Congrats Jess on the new PB.

    This is how I felt when I did my last all out time trial mile and ran a 5:11. And sprinting the last 200 meters just thinking about the finish line, is all I was thinking about. It felt like it would never end, but I finally did it. My goal for the mile is to break 5 minutes, as well as 18 in a 5k. I have a 19:21 5k right now, but I know I can break 19 soon with some training, sub 18 though is going to be difficult.

    I had my PB last Saturday morning, I ran 21:30 at age 55. It was really hard from the 2nd km. The last 3 kilometers my heart rate was near maximum of 200, I have enough will power to push through but my main concern is that I don't want it to happen that the parkrun volunteers have to use the AED on me. So when it felt really hard I held back a little bit to avoid that.

      I wouldn't worry about overdoing it. It's like trying to kill yourself by holding your breath - impossible. The worst that can happen is you just keel over when running too hard. Obviously take care, but don't worry about inducing a cardiac event. Unless, that is, you have any pre-existing cardiac conditions in which case ignore me.
