That's some mad skills of puppetry. His eyes, eyelids, eyebrows and mouth move so believably. I wish i knew how they did it.
I think it's a really advanced form of puppetry basically motorized puppets that are that are operated by a radio controller and for this kind of puppet that's usually done for the head
@@user-Thevinylshow That's neat :D
It's amazing.

If you can find it, give Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge a watch, it’s brilliant watching them make all the puppets
“The way forward, is sometimes the way back”
I can’t stop thinking about that quote.
what does he means?
I just referenced it.
I was telling someone they need to rest from an injury a little longer.
Lol
I think in the movie he was just trying dissuade Sara from getting to the center of the labrynth, like most creatures save her few in the labrynth...Although she did kinda end up going back to all her toys in her room, before getting to the center. Hmmm🤔
@@mineonlyedwardcullen "The way forward, is sometimes the way back." - To look to the future, to understand where you are going in life, you have to understand yourself and where you came from. In order to go forward in life you have to understand what you want, where you're going, and why, and all of that comes from the stories of your past.
Before actually ending up in the Labyrinth Sarah had wished for the Goblin King to take her baby brother. Before even that though, she'd been practicing the lines and she could never remember one of them... "You have no power over me." At the end of the movie that's the line she needs to remember in order to essentially defeat the riddle of the Labyrinth and get her brother back. The symbolism of that moment is a culmination of everything she's learned up until that point, she remembers the line because she realizes it is true...Jareth has no actual power over her.
This is one of the few characters in the entire Labyrinth that actually was giving her good advice, but the bird on top of his head was attempting to lead her astray the same way as so many other creatures.
Most people will tell you to forget about that past and never look back! They are Dorks! The past can tell you so much about yourself & the present and the future! Don't be afraid to visit the past!
@@RazzberryFrootcake Ahora que leí tu comentario tiene sentido, entiendo un poco más esa escena y las palabras del enano.
Gracias
The hat's face and movements saying "yes" at 1:10 is more expressive than most CGI I've seen in the last 20 years and it's practically a sock puppet. We need more of this in contemporary fantasy movies.
I had to come back to this scene because I’m learning a lot.
“We’re not getting anywhere, when in fact, we are.”
Everything counts.
I really like the old wise man. He seems really nice. I wish I knew the story behind the old wise man and the hat.
I have a picture I got today of a painting of a native American chief with a bird on his head that this character is based on
Brian Froud, Terry Jones and Jim Henson might be the only ones who know. This character isn’t in the published book of Goblins of the Labyrinth.
Fear not, when Disney takes over and creates the Labyrinth Cinematic Universe (TM) he'll have his own series complete with elaborate martial arts and flying dinosaurs
"How's that for brain power, huh?"
"Would you listen to this crap!?"
Would you be quiet!!
My favorite 😂🤣
@@thewiseman9668 Okay!
@@thewiseman9668 hi lol
"And I thiiink... that's your lot."
Whenever I miss my grandfather I watch this video because so many conversations with him went like that, my grandmother was the hat always interrupting with nothing to say.
Yeah, totally! I was rewatching the film and I remembered about the Minish Cap... But there's so many awesome things about Labyrinth that could be expanded into video games or full length features... Like the worm that offers her tea, I'd like a film about the worm...
Come inside and have a nice cuppa tea.
Come inside…meet the mrs
that is a movie we didn't know we needed until he said, "come inside."
"Gracias señorita" i love that part i showed that part to my friend at work yesterday. She just starts laughing when she heard it. I did great reenactment of it to which she thought was funny.
0:53 Aye, would you listen to this crap?! Perfect when you are in a work meeting and the boss just rambles on and on
Love that scene I fell right out of my bed as I saw it the last time. "It's so stimulating being your head." rofl
Sometimes I like to tell customers when I'm at work "Puh-leez, leave a contribution in da leetle box. Gracias señorita!"

"Finished?"
"Yep."
XD I LOVE THIS FILM!!

The Hat decided to think about it for a couple of seconds, you notice...!
“Ugh, It’s so stimulating being your het.” One of my most quoted lines from my favourite movie.
The concious and sub concious mind. "Sitting with the thinker trying to work it out. It's a traffic jam of the brain makes you want to scream and shout."
The dark future that awaits Banjo and Kazooie
LMAO
lol
"Well, I'm certainly not getting anywhere at the moment..."
"Hah! Join the club!"
I like the two sentient door knockers, the one with a ring through his ears and the other with the ring in his mouth. They were hilarious.
One of them reminds me of my dad as he's hard of hearing 😂
@@i_wouldprefer_not_to1196 my friend’s dad is like that as well. My friend wants to buy a bullhorn as a result.
That’s me and my dad. My dad is the deaf one.
This is a good movie to watch while you're super drunk or high.
we need more Jim Henson puppets in 2016

You appreciate these sorts of lessons a lot more when you are an adult.
I agree with Hoggel she didn't have to give him her ring, he didn't tell her anything.
Its so stimulating being your hat
That, and, Will you listen to this crap, are my favorite lines in this scene.
I
I always loved watching this film growing up. This scene in particular was a favourite of mine. It was only years later as an older teen that I understood the subtext in the old man's reaction to seeing Sarah for the first time. It almost seems like a lecherous comment these days, but still pretty innocent & sweet. Of course, you would not be able to have a comment like that in a fantasy kids film these days!
A shame we all get stifled creatively just because some nutjob at Paramount thinks the worse of innocent comments.
What did he say other than "a young girl"? I don't think something like that "wouldn't fly" in a movie these days. However, a 39-year-old man roofying a 15-year-old might not fly today.
favorite scene. for so many reasons.
Vanessa Anderson Is humor one of those reasons? Just wondering.
The Wiseman is Sir Michael Hordern (Badger of Wind in the Willows)
I just found out he's my boss's granddad!!
Puppeteering by Frank Oz.
Well, I'll be damned -- I think you're probably right! If it's not him, it certainly sounds a lot like him. Why did I never pick up on that before? I love this film and I've probably watched it at least fifty times over the years.
I remember watching this scene for the first time aged 11 thinking 'Why is Badger from Wind in the Willows in this film'? Especially when he goes 'Be quiet!' Good actor was Sir Michael Hordern 😊😂
It's so stimulating being your hat
I will forever say "huh" the way the hat says it at 0:32
Sometimes the way forward is back..
"Quite often, young lady, it seems like we're not getting anyway, when in fact... we are"
A great tribute to Señor Wences by Jim Henson in this scene. If you are not familar with Señor Wences, do a RUclips search now: Jim would have wanted it that way. :)
The Wiseman is voiced by Michael Hordern, who played the King in The Slipper And The Rose
Chris frank oz
@@michaelinella2459 Oz performed the _puppet_ . But Horden did the voice.
He’s also the narrator of Paddington Bear I never knew that for many many years!
How's that for brain power?
BE QUIET!
Ah nuts...
"Would you listen to this crap"... I love that lil' hatbirdy. I want my own hatbirdy.
Still love this film in 2019
That's one of the funniest lines in the whole movie for me.
So sad the Jim Henson company only has 234k subs
its become a bit more in those 2 years.
Fun fact: The Wise Man was originally going to be a reoccurring character in Labyrinth as Sarah would’ve encountered him in several different parts of the film, but because his scenes would’ve stopped the story multiple times with the same joke of him arguing with his hat that they were cut from the film, with the exception of The Wiseman being seen in the ending of the movie.
I could cry at this begging scene 😓
Coincidence! I've been quoting that bird all week for some reason! "Gracias senorita~!" I thought he was saying "It's so stimulating being your head!" But looking at the title, I guess it was hat?
OMG this is exactly what it's like to be a parrot owner. I love that he has to yell at it to be quiet all the time lol. Exactly like owning a bird lol. And of course they only want to be on your head! Truly a constant battle of who owns whom.
0:13 - 0:17 Amen to that, hat…but I should warn you to not go too far with it. After all, this is just a kid’s film remember?
speaking of kids film, this is one of the dark comedy films of all time.
"How's that fer brain power, huh?"
"Ah!, will you listen to this crap?"
"Ah.. its so stimulating being your hat.."
I want that hat~!
This message goes DEEP! Do you Get it? Jim Henson was a Genius or whoever put this story together!
How would you describe it?
@@edredwhittingham4417 for me this explains depression or any mental health issue! The maze the symbolism etc. we sometimes feel like we are getting nowhere but in reality we are!! There is always hope! Keep going!

I came here because an episode between a skekksis and a mystic in Netflix’s adaptation of Dark Crystal reminded me of these two.
Me too!
"Four arms and only two legs...and neither good for anything!"
0:05 that sounds a little bit like Frank Oz
I wonder if he did the onset voice and then they dubbed over him for the dialogue
It's so stimulating being your head. LOL!!
I’m certain he said “hat”, not “head”.
The hat is my text tone.
still more real than cgi

The puppets are awesome!!!
Best scene everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Where's your head at??? - basement jax- don't rely on us to get you high - just get yourself high. - chemical brothers. -
The bird is the bird brain the conscious mind the man is the subconscious the super computer recording everything thinking about everything. It's hard to speak to the subconscious most don't even see him
The old man's voice is, of course, Sir Michael Hordern, who was one of Britain's greatest classical actors and the best Gandalf who ever was.
And Badger on Cosgrove Hall's Wind in the Willows.
+Chazbot wrong... that is Frank Oz who did the voice of the Wiseman in this film
Nope. Oz did the bird. The man wearing the bird is Michael Hordern. Believe me, it's one of the most distinctive voices in British theatrical history. He was the original and greatest Gandalf and had the most wonderful rumbling harrumph.
Chazbot labyrinth.wikia.com/wiki/The_Wiseman
ohhh you are right lol
+BorisFangirl you're right. also the original narrator of Paddington
For those that wonder, Frank Oz did the wiseman's puppetry but the voice is Michael Hordern. Please refer to the credits page on IMDB www.imdb.com/title/tt0091369/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast
It's occurred to me that his talking bird hat gives him a big headache.
LMAO GREAT SCENE!!!
Will You Please Be Quite 😂😂
0:57 THIS IS IMPORTANT
SO this is what Skeksis have inside the clothes xD
1:54 the "gracias senorita"
IT'S EZLO!!!
Narrator in Paddington, but I'll always remember him as badger
This scene is a lot like a scene with the Cheshire Cat: it doesn't make any sense, it doesn't tell her which way to go, and is so pointless that even the script calls for her to say it's going nowhere. I'm sure someone spent a lot of time and effort making the costume/puppet, but the scene really belonged on the cutting-room floor.
You will win this race."9The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble." Don't give up. Just hold on a little longer. Even though it seems like you're not getting anywhere. YOU ARE!!!
@takineko No! It must be "head"...because I have been thinking that for over a decade!
The same voice behind Yoda and Miss Piggy for those that dont know.
1:27 I sometimes quote that in the same voice!

Age before beauty
Few people know that in reality that Jareth is good in this story is true ... kidnaps children, only the most beautiful, to turn them into Goblin, but only to save them from death, when her sister decides to kill his brother, and that's what it would happen that night.
When intervenes gives always the option to redeem the child, and is it what he hopes to happen every time, that the person who faces difficult at times almost impossible tests, in order to awaken the affection she felt for the little brother who has kidnapped, succeed in the attempt. He seems to be attracted to and in love with the girl but in reality it is not, is part of the game, it's just a test. In the final with her sister who chooses his brother ends another win for the Goblin King ... he will enjoy the party for the girl and her brother watching them from the window in the form bird of prey.
If it seems strange because you do not know how he thinks a Goblin ... their King then ...
Ocelot 353 LOVE THAT!! Wow!!!
We're on a road to nowhere it seems. Just hold on.
