    I miss movies with puppets. They look so much more life like than CGI.

      Gollum was great. One of the better full cgi characters. Mainly because it is motion capture. An actor (Andy Serkis) is Gollum.

    • @lisvender
      @lisvender 7 лет назад +7

      AT Productions I think that the skill of the director has a lot to do with the believability. A lot of CGI is "over-animated," and reveals its falsehood. Similarly, poor puppetry can ruin a good practical effect. No matter what the limitations, however, a director who knows the effect he or she is going for will overcome them. I think the next "Henson" in this regard is Guillermo Del Toro. The creatures in his films always have a lasting impact, whether they're rendered in makeup, animatronics, or CGI.

    • @brighteyes6585
      @brighteyes6585 7 лет назад +6

      lisvender I bet Del Toro would've made a good Labyrinth sequel or prequel. I would've like to learn where Hoggle came from and if Sarah had been gifted power at a young age. It's really interesting...

    • @yosefdemby8792
      @yosefdemby8792 3 года назад +5

      That's why Hoggle often makes a bunch of grunts and groans throughout the movie- so she can see where she's going, not bump into stuff.

  • @MajorZeldork
    @MajorZeldork 9 лет назад +30

    Hoggle's puppeteers are amazing! And so are the people that actually created him. The movements are spot on and so smooth

  • @bowmaj8666
    @bowmaj8666 9 лет назад +61

    An absolutely amazing Puppet/Special Effect that still holds up to this day; the way he looks and moves is incredible!
    It's understandable why effects like this weren't used that much back then since they were so hard to do, but the hard work definitely paid off. And if they could manage stuff like that with animatronics and puppets back in the 80's, just imagine what they could pull off with stuff like that nowadays; film makers just need to put in the elbow grease! CGI is ok, but it's just getting so boring now.

      @@NoemyTorrance The Hoggle got lost in transit after Jim Henson boarded a plane. Seeing as he was no longer needed for filming the crew never enquired about the puppets whereabouts. It wasn’t until years later that the luggage bag he was in was opened and he had rotted away enough for the mechanisms inside of him to be seen. Someone recognized the puppet and took it in to be restored. The puppet now resides at the Alabama airport in the lost luggage terminal.
