Oh good! I'm not the only one who grew up thinking David Bowie was hot as the Goblin King. I thought I was one very disturbed child, but apparently it's normal :)
Quite normal! I grew up watching this movie and even wore out the VHS tape when I was a child because I watched it so much! Glad I have it on DVD now so I can watch any time I want and not worry. I still have issues with rejecting him at the end sometimes...lol!
That's what I thought too. I love seeing the old behind the scenes videos of the two of them, he had a very fatherly or big brother relationship with her that was honestly so adorable to see.
@@annaemily2924 YES! I love how they did have chemistry (I don't mean that in a sexual way) as they were both main leads they needed to! if you have no chemistry on screen the film is gonna fall!
Oh, man, you read my mind! I believe if she was just a few years older that they will be an item. Just look at her husband Paul! She clearly has a thing for blond british guys and you can't deny she is one of the most beautiful actresses ever!!
I never thought they looked good together for some reason. And its not because I was in love with him .lol. he's way to old n she is wat to beautiful for an old goblin king. Idk if he was married to ilana yet.
I didn't know that Gates McFadden and Cheryl McFadden were the same person. I just thought, "Oh! Gates McFadden has a twin. Thanks for clearing that up 👍
I love watching David and Jennifer dance together during the rehearsals-the way she's gazing into his eyes is just simply adorable!! She was definitely in full on crush mode-haha!! It's too bad there was such a major age difference-you have to wonder if they might have become a couple in real life-they look so cute together!! ;-)
Yes, there was a scene and David Bowie had even begun to right a song "First Kiss". But they, like you said, cut the scene. So he never finished the song. "Such a pity." (As Jareth would say.)
It is a pity! They should have filmed the scene still, but taken it out of them movie. It should have been available later for viewers to see. I know she was underage though.
"I can see why :) He seems to be really looking after her, and being all sweet and protective." Awesome. Im not the only one who thinks that ^.^! I always thought it was sweet, because she was embarrased because she wasnt much of a ballroom dancer, and David, a pro he may not have been, knew more than enough to help lead and teach her. -Sigh- CUTE!!
I love this movie. This was my favorite scene because it was so magical and it looked so beautiful. I want to live there. The clothes are so beautiful I want her dress
I find strange thing , many actors with years of difference has a lot of chemistry when they are on the scene, as in the case of Jennifer and David with much age difference more when they join are very chemical . I'm sorry if I said something wrong .
Flávia Miranda I don't believe you've said anything wrong. As a matter of fact I think a chemistry or a hint of chemistry is what was intended for this very scene. The actors' age difference only makes it more fascinating, how surreal they portray it.
Agreed that you said absolutely nothing wrong. I thought they had great chemistry as well. Makes me want to see the scene that was cut where they actually kissed.
@@carlottarobbins7005 Supposedly it really was filmed. They just didn't use it since she was underage. At least that's what I've read on multiple sites.
She was so beautiful - still is. 2:54 - I doubt one person could say that smile isn't absolutely lovely. Secretly Bowie must've been thinking to himself, "God damn it if you were just a couple years older Jennifer . . . ."
This is amazing. Never clicked so fast. Timeless film. David is mesmerising in that scene. How sweet was Jennifer? Costume Dept excelled themselves here & throughout the film.
I fell in love with them both when I was in 3rd grade. That dance scene is the bomb. I compare every other ballroom type dance scene I see to that. Jennifer is just adorable and David is The King.
There is a tap dance scene in the Star Trek Next Generation episode called "Data's Day" where she teaches him how to dance for Keiko & O'Brian's wedding.
This ballroom scene…gosh I get so mesmerized, seeing David and Jennifer just spark chemistry all over the place with just looks and body language is beautiful, I honestly wished she would’ve been a tad older, that original kissing scene would’ve done so much, there would’ve been potential to make a romantic movie with a very tragic ending. 💐
Gorgeous scene! The professionals who conceived the scene and made it come true are awesome! Congrats for each one who transformed the ideas in reality!
Dr. Beverly Crusher! This scene i fell in love with as a child. Made me want to have a ball like it and dress all fancy. I still want to relive this scene as an adult. Its so beautiful.
Good lord this brings a tear to my eye. There will never be another Jim Henson - with his artistic sensability and good heart. Oh, how our world today needs a man like him...
Maybe I'm the oldest audience compared to your guys cos I saw this movie when i was around 18. Ha Ha. The dancing scene in my memories. Jennifer is truly stunning and so adorable, the picture is always in my mind. Thanks a lot, fayzabeam.
It's so weird - and she changed her name to Gates? Gates McFadden rather than Cheryl. Probably Cheryl was the real name she had before she was forced to adopt the actor name? idk But I love Star Trek TNG. It's beyond amazing for me to find out that she was in charge of my favorite scene in this movie that had such a monumental effect on my life (named my daughter Sarah after it). I've actually given Gates McFadden a hug! Marina Sirtis kissed my daughter! I got flirted with by Brent Spiner! lol I love both shows... how magical that they're mixed.
Jean-Luc Picard: Dr Crusher, i knew you was a great star in ballet but i didn't knew you direct David Bowie in him ballroom scene! Jennifer is so pretty with the dress and hairstyle but i want to cheer Gates McFadden for her work as director of choreography
It is amazing how the creative's ideas get into your mind subconsciously. I never realized that this scene had in fact no goblin puppets in it, just human characters but still all of them wear goblin masks and act mischievously. It reminds of that big main hall in the Castle of the Goblin City full with all those goblins but turned it all into a beautiful Cinderella dream by Jareth to seduce Sarah.
David and Jen were initially supposed to kiss in this scene, but Bowie refused due to her age and the scene was scrapped. Shows in my opinion how pure he really was.
i really wish jennifer was a little older because im pretty sure there was supposed to be a kiss in this scene but because she was only 15 david didn't wanna do it
Ive seen those to. I found them all ver adorable, and my favoring towards the whole Jareth/Sarah fandom also expanded to a slight David/Jennifer thing. But, of coyrse, age would have been abit of a problem. -Sigh- But one can imagine, right?

I liked him just a little when i was 5
But i also thought he was really scary and mean which he is mean...and hot
Very normal 😍 always fancied him ❤️
I love how he holds her so close. He's holding her more like father/daughter dance notice that. I think he had sweet bromance with her.

David Bowie was such an exquisite creature. The ballroom scene had me hypnotized as a child.

I can't believe Beverly Crusher did the choreography!
Margo Gadet It is her! Looked it up and she uses two names for some reason. Cheryl for Choreography and Gates when for is acting.

Love the cut to the guy crouching under that lady's crinoline after the set designer says "vaguely depraved".
That was not a man, but a woman.
Oh my he was a beautiful man. I love all his costumes as the Goblin King but this one is so dapper! He was so magnetic.😍
Still an amazing piece of cinematography I will never forget.
WOW, Just found out he was 39 or 40 yrs old when he made this movie! And Jennifer was 14 or 15...

Always loved this scene but never really understood the meaning of it. So if it's Sarah's fantasy does she subconsciously want to be with Jareth?
The scene represents sexuality & adulthood I think. She's on the brink of both so fascinated but slightly afraid.
She still has the statue if him on the table at the end so probably.
