Came from the gutter with no father, rose through the ranks and never succumbed to debauchery. Trained like a savage in isolation for war, and was victorious in the greatest boxing match in history. Truly and literally Marvelous!
@@jacklarue7049 how exactly was he robbed? You need to watch thag fight again. Hagler established himself in the first round. And pummelled Hearns in the second. He hit him with naybe 30 ferocious head shots, and Hearns was already finished. The 3rd round was a formality. Hearns had only one way out. He was knocked out cold.
@@stevefowler3398In fairness Hearns broke his right hand early on in the first round, u can see when he starts pulling his right so he never really got a good crack at it, even the commentators noticed that Hearns hurt Hagler with a right early on and that Hagler was walking thru his rights after that. Hearns wasn't robbed but Hagler definitely wasn't facing Hearns best after he broke his hand.
Same here, the mugabi fight was my favourite John came to fight and take Marvin's belts he forgot a 12 gauge shotgun. RIP Marvellous Marvin Hagler the greatest ever to lace em up imo
I respect anyone that can lock themselves away for months, isolate from family and friends and stay motivated. I would be miserable after a couple of weeks.
Idk it sounds great. Not that I'd know the feeling of not being able to see your wife and kids for months but the isolation part sounds neat. Gettinf away from all the bullshit in life especially moreso nowdays cuz we have 24/7 distractions around us
As one Sports Illustrated Issue stated back in '82...."The Best and the Baddest". I loved his blue collar attitude when it came to clocking in for training and also his spartan regimen that he put himself through for every fight. As he said, he locked himself up in jail to prepare for his bouts. He prepared for every fight as if he literally was going to war. Especially the Super Fights! I suggest boxing fans buy his Career DVD Set to appreciate this man's contribution to Boxing as one of the greatest Middleweight Champions of all time.
Marvin Hagler was the best & most humble fighter in his day.He earned his shot the hard & long way.But he showed them & became the King of his division.Marvin v Tommy was a brutal fight.Marvin is the star on top of your Xmas tree.Always on top,RIP Legend.
Hometown hero here. My parents and grandparents would tell me stories of when he has the title, he would come to the projects and throw money out the limo to the children lol. Have bbqs with my grandparents and neighborhood. He was a real one. 💪
@@MrBCAM yeah both of them came from Brockton, MA. My parents would tell me stories of Hagler coming to the neighborhood with his limo, throwing money out to the kids. Hanging out with my grandparents BBQs and stuff. It was the projects. He was down to earth. Good dude. And every restaurant has a picture of Rocky. It’s like a must 😂. Also Al Davis was raised there. Owner of the Raiders. It’s a small city about 20 mins south of Boston.
This is the man that turned me onto boxing! I watched him fight Alan Minter for the world Middleweight Championship here in the UK. It was a masterclass in the art of boxing! Both brutal and sublimely skilful at the same time! Rest easy Champ 🙏
I’ve watched hundreds of fights growing up with my grandfather. We watched everything from Felix Trinidad fights to Riddick bow Holyfield and Tyson fights literately everything and I remember my grandfather telling me Hagler was different, he said Marvelous Marvin Hagler was special. I go back and watch Hagler fights and I know exactly what he’s talking about.
That's why Marvin hagler to me is the greatest conditioning boxer I've ever seen in my life because his life when he was training was just boxing nothing else mattered rest in peace to one of the greatest whoever laced them up
I understand and respect haglers way of gearing up for a fight. You come into this world on your own ans you leave on your own. Isolation is the best way to get to know yourself. It also a way of reassuring yourself that you are made for war. Most people cant be alone for 1 minute without feeling the need for some form of gratification or approval. Being alone really really toughens you up and moulds you into a beast.
R.I.P. to the greatest switch hitter of all time…Marvelous Marvin Hagler . Since I am a competitive boxer (with the utmost honesty and humility) and a 6X Champion, I understand and relish isolation when I train. I must focus on outboxing my opponent and working hard and being focused. I will win. Thank You my Mighty Lord Jesus Christ. 🥊🥊🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💖✝️
I met this great American 🇺🇸 & World CHAMP in his warm-up room in Providence Civic center when I was 13 yes old ... just 1 hr before his 3rd title defense VS Wilfred Scypion... got a Polarid photo & autograph from the MARVELOUS 1*.
My man, Marvin’s exploits inspired me to ditch the bodybuilding bullshit and to take up combat sports. I never looked back after becoming a lean tough as nails fighting machine and highly respected coach and mentor.
This is one of the few fighters who trained like his life was on the line every single fight. Fighters that are that prepared are very difficult to stop because they don’t run out of gas. You might outbox him early but he’ll break you down as the fight progresses.
This is the man who made me to incorporate boxing regimen in my routine. All of a sudden i got a punching bag, speed ball, gloves, training pad, skipping rope, light weight lifting, resistance band and i started to run 20 Km. The Marvelous one, Frazier, Ali and Tyson have good training regimen. I made it part of my life to train like a boxer preparing for a fight for the rest of my life because of him.
