- A local 3 day "Mini-Tour" bike ride to Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz starting from and ending at my house in Sunnyvale.
**Update***
At 6:39 I note the spot on Highway 1 just south of HMB where a cyclist had recently been struck and killed by a passing motorist. I had read the initial news report about this tragic event just a few days prior to my ride and vaguely knew the spot. (its an unusually long curve in the highway)
Since then I've learned that the driver involved has been arraigned and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Second Degree Murder and other charges. This person has 2 prior DUI convictions and multiple convictions for driving without a license.
It has been very upsetting to hear the details surrounding this collision. A repeat DUI offender, who had their license revoked, still operating a vehicle while under the influence. As a society, we need to do better.
My sincere condolences to the family and friends of the cyclist involved.

I'm planning a route from Palo Alto to Half Moon Bay. Thanks for sharing this! Enjoyed it.
Thanks for the comment. I hope you are able to get out to the Coast for a ride, I found mid-week has much less traffic, if you can swing it.
Great job. Stay safe. Your video is very inspiring.
Thank you Robert! I appreciate the kind words.
So sad hearing about the cyclist accident.....
Life really is fragile........
Condolences to the cyclist family...
Great video as always, be safe out there my friend!
So sad indeed. Riding this stretch of Highway 1 on a weekend should be avoided. This event happened at 4:30PM on a Saturday afternoon, that's when the beach party-ers are heading home. Thanks for the kind words!
I know you were descending but you rode right past The Bike Hut on Tunitas Creek its a chill spot on that ride where you can get a bar and a drink google it thanks for the great job on your video editing.
I’ve heard about the Bike Hut, I may ride that route again soon, if I do I’ll keep an eye out for it. Thanks for the comments and feedback. Much appreciated!
I really have been enjoying all your videos. Regarding the drunk driver, she just this past May 2024 (almost two years after the event) was found guilty, and won't be sentenced until August.
Thanks for the update on that Elizabeth. It gave me chills just standing where the crash happened. Hopefully a very long jail sentence is coming her way.
That’s a great “local” tour!
Yeah local may be a stretch. As the crow flies it's only about 25 miles from my house to the coast, but there's a mountain range in between! Hoping the planets align sometime and we can connect.
Love the new setup, but the rear hub noise would drive me bonkers.
I'm with you , the loud freehub has been annoying as heck. I just recently found how to tone it down with a small amount of grease on the drive ring in the main hub body. Thanks for commenting Pedaling Pete.
Personally I am now almost afraid to ride the streets much less the highways. I has become so dangerous and it seems no one is concerned about it. I wish people would wake up and put their phones down.
I hear you. Distracted driving is rampant, and DUI incidents are still too common. On busier routes, such as this coastal route, I try to ride mid-week and/or early in the day whenever possible.
