There are heaps of easy ways to do this. I can highly recommend Holland Mars stuff. I've used them to livestream events where I couldn't run a cable from camera to switching desk. Yes, that's an older Dell 3815dw with 21:9 aspect ratio. For the RC2 HDMI or Display Port output, you'd be better off with a 16:9 monitor and 4K. I've read that the 4:3 aspect ratio will actually give even more picture area, as 16:9 is cropped also.
Yes, a regular usb-C to HDMI, or Display Port (DP) cable only, will work, an adapter is not necessary. The adapter can be used for extra performance if needed, I use it to run 4K, or 3840 x 2160 at 60fps.

There is no PC that the RC2 controller is plugging in to, I'm using an available HDMI port on the Dell 3818 Monitor in the video. If your Mac monitor has an extra HDMI or Display Port, you have everything you need.
No app is necessary to make HDMI\Display Port over usb-C work, with the RC2. Make sure your TV is set to the correct input for your 4K adapter. Try another monitor or TV to see if the problem is your adapter. Also try plugging in just your cable without the adapter, to see if that works. Good luck!
