She said in an interview with Beyonce that she wrote this song after breaking up with her son's father and dealing with her "feelings of self pity, self doubt and emptiness ". As a woman, especially a black woman, we're expected to have it all together and be strong internally and externally. I appreciate her vulnerability because even superwomen have off days.
...or months or years. We bury that pain deep. Deep.
I remember when Solange sang the theme song of that old cartoon Proud Family so I kinda knew she was going to bring those amazing vocals of hers. It's great to see how she evolved and found her footing despite being in the shadow of her sister and is making a name for herself. Shoutout to Lost In Vegas and Solange for bringing back some nostalgia and also something new as well.
I said the exact same thing when I first heard her on the theme song of proud family. So happy for her
pro trick : you can watch movies on Kaldrostream. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Clyde Luca definitely, I have been using flixzone} for months myself :)
My girlfriend loves this album.. I just wrote it off because it doesn't fit my definition of me.. But you guys made me dive in deep, opening my eyes to this musical brilliance. As a white 'metal head' (not really anymore I love all music but metal is what I grew up on) I can't pretend to understand some of the subjects she covered in this album but she made something like pride for her culture as a black woman naturally sink in to me as such an incredibly beautiful thing although thoroughly unrelatable to me as a white man..
Even growing up in Ireland black culture has never been a foreign thing to me as it would with people with hateful preconceptions. I grew up watching sister sister, Keenan and Kel AND i know that sounds hilarious and ridiculous... I can't pretend to understand the depth of emotion that she portrayed in this album, all I can do is appreciate it as an art form and feel that message translate through my cultural filters and the consequence of my privelaged white male upbringing.
But it sinks in, this is art.. it's a deep method of communication across the rigid borders of culture.
Lyrical beauty, the ornamentation in her vocal, the precise and brilliant harmony lines that float with a natural character across the spectrum of busy basslines and atmospheric strings and synths.. wow, what an album..
It makes hairs stand up on my arms..
I bought the vinyl as a present to both me and my girlfriend, she loved it.. I love it.
I absolutely adore your channel guys.
Respect. Great writing.
This was good. People sleep on Solange but she is a great and different artist and individual in general. Solange is in her own lane and she is killing it! An artist by the name of Normani Kordei did her rendention of this song along with "Don't Touch My Hair". I would love to see your thoughts on if you felt she did the song justice.
you know, I know beyonce has an incredible voice and is immensely talented, but solange has always been easier to consume and more to my taste. Underrated AF. thanks.
“she tried to travel 70 states, ion know where the hell she was going”😂😂😂💀
😂😂😂
Sweet jazz influence! I can hear some Diana in there. It's got a very old school vibe that is much appreciated. It's not too slickly produced and is reminiscent of Motown vinyl.
First I will say that I am a metal head first and foremost. That being said this song is outstanding. I am not familiar with this song or artist, but I will be buying this album for my wife. Thanks for Turing me in to something outside my normal music rotation. Great review as always.
5retsam Glad you enjoyed it :-) I grew up in similar music to this song and branched out to rock, metal, indie, post punk, etc. and then came back to the stuff I grew up on. I love it all so much and I'm glad I can appreciate different types of music.
This album is her butterfly moment...coming out of that cocoon, looking and sounding BEAUTIFUL
Solange's voice is what drew me to this song as well as don't touch my hair..... & George you do not need to apologies we see you .... we know what you are into lol.
You should do more r&b. Wish the younger cats understand how unique the genre is.
We're trying to get the youngins there bro!
I love when the boys react/review R&B because it makes me put on R&B for the rest of the day. Saadiq, Dwele, Lucy Pearl, making my day that much better!
Ya know, I can respect RnB and like some of it, but generally it's to slow is all it is. Like if I'm in the mood for dome thing slow and a little, moodier (I guess? Haha), I'll listen to it every once in awhile.
fmlAllthetime what are you talking about? R&B has no bearing on tempo.
Its neo soul though not regular Rnb radio RNB
Never heard this song before, but it's going on the playlist now!
Nice! Enjoy!
It's a brilliant song about dealing with depression
This album is ICONIC. She is ICONIC Beginning to end. Phenomenal artist. So underrated it saddens me. She is an original that won't get her dues until much later. So ahead of her time
Her opening verse married to that bassline....
Well put 😮💨❤️
i've loved her music since ' i decided '. less poppy and deeper musically than her sister. that video she filmed in soweto was great. she and janelle monae would make a classic.
"What the hell was she going through?!" DEPRESSION
Bipolar disorder
Yes
🤦🏽♀️🤬
What you guys are doing is very special. I appreciate you.
I really like this album, Solange really hit her stride with this one. Also love "anti" and "lemonade", those three albums are a perfect trio...imo
thumbs up for "she wrote the hell out of that melody"
totally dig this record
y'all never disappoint, keep up the good work.
Thank youuuu Akosua!
I just heard this song for the first time today and i was blown away, your review of this was fantastic.
Amazing song, amazing album. So happy to hear this one reviewed/reacted. Righteous work!
I will say this a very interesting track. Very solidly produced, great voice and interesting lyrics…
Thanks for opening me up to this guys I always appreciate learning about something new especially when it comes to music
Thanks for watching Jeff!
MANNNNN, you guys are at 79K Subs!????!?? Holy shit, so glad you're blowing up so much! You guys deserve it. Beautiful song, great reaction as always.
Thank you sir!
I'm going to keep saying it, a few weeks ago I commented about 18k....insane. Never been there for the beginning of a channel, lol.
With all the beautiful magical vocals and lyrics- It’s the baseline for me!
I had this song on repeat so long. I still listen to this 🔥
Metal fan watching my first video outside of that genre from you guys and still appreciate your ear for talent. Great channel!
Awe I adore your personality, from the both of you. Great review:)
I love this. Thanks 4 opening my eyes to a new artist.
Absolutely LOVING the variety, fellas!! Solange has an INCREDIBLE sounding voice!! Fantastic track!!
Solange is so talented and she sounds different in a good way. I listen to "a seat at the table" all the time and her visuals are amazing I mean she's way ahead of our time.
love your attention to detail 🌻
Thanks for the introduction to this song! Love it!
I came here as a "rock/metal guy" to hear outside my comfort zone like some of your videos. keep it up, love it.
Love Solange. Her new album is fire as well :) Have already listened to Binz a couple hundred times. Thank you for sharing your love for solange with your foollowers
Felt this😅💯
AYEEEE 80K great video man how can you guys get any better ✊

Great reaction Guys⭐️
Oh Ro James - Permission he's R&B
I think y'all dig his vibe.
Tracy A. I love this song
The silk drawers shit killed me
LOL!
Wonderfull review. Personally i can listen to her song "don't touch my hair " all day long, didn't get quite that excited about this one but now i got hyped by your enthusiasm.
This track is hot. Love the bass work. Her voice is perfect on this track. Soft, smooth and easy in the ear. Beautiful vibrato and tone.
Pretty New Subscriber here, joined a few days ago after watching Your Reaction to Slayer Reign in Blood. I'm a metal Head that mostly listens to metal and rock but love what you guys are doing, expanding minds and playing and discussing all sorts of genres of Music. It's to easy for people to fall into a category of music and not be able to see the talent beyond it in other genres. Metal heads are almost notorious for it but it is good to be open minded, especially in something as diverse as Music. As for this particular Song never heard of Solange, R & B has never been my thing, but I respect the talent that went into writing this and her voice is beautiful. Keep up the good work Fellas.
Holly shit y'all thank you thank you. I've never heard this young lady . Great stuff!!!
First reaction video of yours that I almost didn't listen to all the way through. Wasn't feeling it at all. Then suddenly the chorus hits and I'm illuminated. And I get it. Thanks for another artist to discover for me guys! Still want Steve Vai Tender Surrender reaction.
Good for you! Thanks for hanging in there!
You guys are ultimate thinkers...
Imagine, Tornado of Lost Solange.
Basically, take a few of your awesome reviews and combine them.
You have gained an audience, roll with it!
My mans George need to chill 😂😂💀💀 Y’all are silly as hell! Great reaction as always! Love me some R&B!❤️🔥
LOL!!
when this whole album came out last year, I had it on replay all day every day .Even hearing the song right now brings back such a good feeling!! of winter nights with the dimmed lights lighting up just listening to her whole album.. Every single song speaks to me!!.. this song in particular was perfect for the moment.. she explained my feelings so well....Cranes in the sky, Fubu,Weary,Don't touch my hair.... her videos are soo entrancing !! She's one of a kind... I remember telling my friends she was better than Beyonce (which was a very dangerous statement lol) I'm also mad at myself for not asking you guys for a reaction from her because you're MEN.. I had trouble getting my guy friends to actually listen to her .. I'm glad you guys love her as much as I do.. can you do a reaction to the songs she has videos to.. ?.. I blame you guys for making me go back to listening to her whole album nonstop
DanielleO!! What's going on girl! Good to see you in here. We'll definitely get back to Solange. Of course we rock with the ladies! We grew up listening to Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Stephanie Mills, Mary J Blige, Xscape, SWV, TLC just to name a few! You can request ANYTHING! Thanks for watching!!
Lost In Vegas.. you know I can't stay away from ya channel, you guys feel the music... ur on the grind so early 💪🏼💪🏼... hey can you let me know who responds to the messages?...... I always wonder who I'm talking with....
George lol. I'm working on Ryan. We'll get him there lol.
Lost In Vegas well nice to officially know who I'm speaking with..I guessed wrong !! I always thought it was George!... sending lots of love towards ya! keep it up 😉
I meant Ryan*
Solange did a podcast on Song Exploder where she discussed the writing process for the song. You can also hear the instruments and her voice in isolation which is pretty eye opening! I recommend checking it out.
Amazing album.
This is my JAM!!! Seriously such a cathartic audible experience when I'm in a vibe
You guys are on fire picking another winner. Great singer. Could listen to Solange all day long, always liked 6 o’clock blues. Any chance you’ll be showing some love to Joan Armatrading in the future.
Rafael Saadiq wrote, composed and produced this with her. Iconic results. *Chef kiss 🤌🏾😘
Man, this track reminds me of the kind of Soul/RnB that trickled into some hiphop tracks back in the day, well done!
From your Holy Wars video, you guys mentioned getting enveloped in the song despite the lack of lyrics in the beginning. A great instrumental metal track with all sorts of variety that I urge you to check out is "CAFO" by Animals as Leaders. There is a music video for it here on RUclips, and it's a more recent track, not sure if it makes a difference to you guys or not.
I finally get why people dig reaction videos! Bless you guys!
A beautiful song by a beautiful woman. Wonderful instrumentation too - I gotta check out more Solange. Thanks for the introduction to some cool music, guys.
This is sick. I don't know that much soul/RnB except for Stevie, Marvin and Curtis (came for the metal reactions) so it's cool to hear stuff like this. Keep it up, thanks!
Great one!!
I swear this was everything Beautiful album
I am *SO* outside of y'alls demographic. Despite the large (and slowly diversifying) numbers you men are reaching, I highly doubt you're pulling in many 52 year old white ladies from the dirty south (NOLA). I say this to let you both know I love your channel. I love your open minds. And I especially love hearing music (some of it very familiar to me, some of it brand new) through your young(er), fresh(er) ears. Through your reactions and review, I sometimes learn and hear new things in this music. With all of that said, your attention to not just listening to - but trying to UNDERSTAND - the feelings Solange sings about in this particular song are what impresses me the most about this review. It's one thing for two men to listen to countless music recommendations from your predominantly male audience of predominantly male musicians. It's something quite another to listen to you both try to understand WHAT Solange is attempting to drink/cry/shop/etc away in this particular song. It is so refreshing to see you working to understand her lyrics, from HER perspective and not your own. For what it's worth, when I first heard the opening notes of this song well over a year ago, I knew it was a very special piece of art. Y'all seem to get that too. I love what y'all are doing. Keep up the good work. ~M from New Orleans~
Thank you Salute to Solange! Love the vibe of Album! She is standing solid not in anyone's Shadow 😎🎵🌟🎶🔥
Super late on this one but loved this! ❤️ George with those finger points reminded me of Cuba Gooding Jr in Fighting Temptations 😂
My absolute favorite song in the world! 😍 Knocked Corinne Bailey Rae's "Til it Happens to You" down to number 2. Would love to hear you guys react to something from Ms. Rae.
That was great 👍🏾 and her album was amazing. Every time I listen to this song I always get chills down my back. She most definitely came into her own music wise. #freethinker #thatsfire #forcefeedRnB
Dave- Blackbox freestyle is pure passion and strait fire out the U.K! Loving the content recently dudes, keep it coming, peace x
I'm mostly a rock/metal/hardcore/punk dude (with some rap on the side) and don't listen to much nu-soul/r'n'b (even if i dig some songs here and there), but your enthusiasm and passion makes me wanna check out way more in that genre.
Love this damm song you guys stay killing it solange made a timeless piece with this
That was beautiful...great voice
I’m so glad you guys did a review for this song.. Keep up the r&b joints! Wait.. Why are silk draws bad? Lol🤣😂 don’t even answer!!! Love you two..
Lol!
Please more R&B gentlemen. Love it!! Suggestion: please review Lose Control by Silk. And for rock please review Black hole sun by Soundgarden. Keep up the great work guys. Love your channel!
Awesome shit guys! I would love a "J.I.D - Hasta luego" review. Your previous reaction to J.I.D really got my eyes up for the kid!
If you can fall in love at first sight then what would call first hearing? I'm smitten with every aspect of this song
Always put off this album but now I gotta check it out
Wicked wicked tune and artist!!!!!!!
Always enjoy the variety of this channel. Daily song recommendation, Animals as Leaders "CAFO" it's amazing the sound that comes out of a three man band
I'm not sure whether this would motivate them to pick an instrument up or to never even touch one. :D I mean those guys are too good.
I really want to see their reaction of it with how much they praised Dave Mustaine(Holy Wars vid) and Synyster Gates (Afterlife vid). I mean, they're great as well, but Tosin & Javier have this way with 8 strings that you think it has to be 3 or more guys at the same time.
Deus Rex maybe even get in on some Tesseract too eh!
Tesseract is a real good pick! It's weird how I feel Daniel reminds me a lot of LJ from Sevendust, and Ashe's stuff reminded me a lot of Claudio from Coheed & Cambria
Deus Rex completely agree with that!! Dan's range is sooo damn good and I think the guys would love the groove as well! But... which song is the question?! I would say April because that goes deeeeep!
This track is truly nothing but FIRE!!! So many have done remixes of it and I must say each of those I’ve heard have been FIRE as well. My favorite is Tracy Hamlin, DJ Oji, Adam Rios & Mark Lewis - Cranes In The Sky Remixes. Tracy Hamlin took the Sexy to a whole other level. DJ Oji, Adam Rios and Mark Lewis sped up the Track to bring it to the Clubs and Dance Floors Worldwide. I pump this Track to this day on my House Music Internet Station (Nocturnal Grooves Entertainment). To bring this full circle… You did a great Review and Presentation of Cranes In The Sky. The both were dead on and knocked this one out the box. Keep up the wonderful Podcasts. ~ Soulful Silk ✌🏽
Damn I missed a lot gotta catch up and y'all grown! 🔥 song 🔥 channel! And Ravyn Lenae - Unknown would be a nice follow up
This song is a reference to the struggles of a black woman in America and the many pressures she faces. The cranes are a symbol of the constant reminder the her struggles are not over because America has never been rebuilt to benefit people like her.
I have recently been getting into R&B/Soul and this really sounds good. Nice vid as usual and keep up the good work. One song I might suggest is
Get You - Daniel Caesar feat Kali Uchis
He is a big up and coming R&B/Soul artist right now and his voice is great in my opinion. And Kali Uchis is pretty good too haha
Thank u for this!! I def will check out more solange after this!! It's dope. You should really review some AB SOUL please!!! Anything from the album Do What Thou Wilt. Gods A Girl is good but the one that got me hooked was Threatening Nature.
Never heard of her but willing to give the album a listen now, thx
Good stuff man and great song too. Love the fact that Raphael Saadiq worked on a lot of the tracks from her album (including this one!). You'd love his song with Little Dragon as well called 'Peace of Mind'. That guy is a low key genius producer.
ya'll are dope.
This is one of my favorites.... I love the entire album. Do a reaction on “Mad” that another good one. Thanks for this.
#Freethinkers 🔥🐐
My man!
I'm definitely going to bump the whole album
Your reaction to holy wars brought me into this channel. I grew up on Motown and classic rock. I've been waiting to hear new music with a Motown old r&b vibe! Thank you
You may not want to bring Beyonce into it but I will. She may be more popular but this girl is leaps and bounds better imo. Love the vibe, salute
In love with the song
i love that song bro
I love her music 🎵🎵🎵🎵
Her voice is like a butterfly
Silk underwear isn’t good for anyone 😂
LOL!!
From a musician/artist’s view point watching these reaction videos it is very inspiring to go create some new tunes 😎
Janelle monae electric lady 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💎
Just found your guys channel a little bit ago. Really enjoying the diversity of music you guys are willing to check out. That seems to be missing alot from us young fellas nowadays. Check out Kaleo - Way Down We Go some time i bet you guys would enjoy it
I love that song it's next level
Yes sir
Another thing guys I heard that Tweet did background for this Album mostly on the song "Mad"
It'll also be pretty rad to see you guys play some Charles Bradley
Serious Meshell Ndegeocello vibes here. That mellow jazz is nice
beautiful voice ❤👌
Y'all need to throw some pop punk in the mix! State Champs- All You are is History, or All Time Low- Weightless....a genre I haven't really seen you do 😎love the videos guys
