From a leopard gecko owner of 3: Super worms can cause impaction easily and should be used as a treat in my experience. They are very fattening. I suggest a diet that varies between crickets and mealworms (crickets one meal dusted in calcium if your leo needs supplemented and mealworms the next). A good rule of thumb is not to feed any worms/crickets that are wider than the space between their eyes and not to feed a total amount of the insect that exceeds the full length of your leo. Your leo is at the age where you may need to reduce your feedings to every other day if you haven’t already. Hornworms are a good every now and then treat! Have you got a thermostat for your heat mat?
This is extremely smart. I’ve also been feeding shrimp food in the corner my community tank while spreading some tropical flakes for my rasbora hets and neon tetras. One of the tetras grabbed a sinking pellet he couldn’t even swallow and waved it around for a bit, it eventually dropped. 😂 I’ve also been looking at my CPDs bellies to gauge if they are full! they are so tiny I need to squint. They love their baby brine shrimp mixed with crushed flakes.. come swimming up to the front of the take every time they see me.
Sound wave. Somebody in the family grew up a transformer fan. I have a 65 with 10 panda Cory, 20 cardinal tetraS and 10 ember tetras. Once I put the food in there, I don’t take it out after 5 minutes. I leave it there for my Cory catfish to eat too. My tank is heavily planted so I am not worried about ammonia build up. I do 30% water change every Saturday.
Good video, but I was most impressed with using a tote for a quarantine tank, as in "Why didn't I think of that?" Do you keep an extra seeded sponge filter in your other tanks to have one ready for a quarantine situation?
Great video. We have a community reef tank and I’m always vacillating between “I’m feeding too much” and “I’m feeding too little”. We have a very bossy tang who assumes all the food is for her as well as a number of slow/timid feeders. It’s always a bit of a dance... I love that you included your pupper and Dax for context. I think that observation is indeed important in evaluating our feeding routines, and you explained it well. :)
Oh good, I'm glad the analogy helped! I was afraid people would immediately drop off the video since I didn't show my fish first. :) Yes, I have several bossy fish and it's definitely a delicate dance. I've just accepted the fact that my betta's going to be a little chubbier while living in the community tank vs. when I could control his diet better when he was alone in his own bachelor pad. 😅
This was a really helpful video. I just discovered your channel and I’m thrilled to find another fish channel by a woman, besides Rachel O’ Leary who is of course, fabulous. 😁❤️
It looks like it's a high protein pellet. So good for betta fish. They like it very much. btw Your tank setting is very good and clean, the water is very clear. Thank you for sharing...
Of all the fish in my community tank, my balloon mollies by far eat the most. The balloon mollies are food obsessed! My betta fish looks at them like he's puzzled by their constant foraging for food. Love your videos by the way!
I agree, Some fish will eat the whole time, so how will you know when to stop adding food. Some fish eat and grabs too much when feeding while others can't get any or not enough. I have different tanks with different types of fish. I add food all over the front of tank as well as adding food in the water to float down for other fish. Is the above ok. At the moment it seems I'm adding too much food as water looks cloudy after feeding.
aunty the dwarf loachers in youre quarntine tub are in small lakes in sri lanka..there are tons and tons of them...i am a sri lankan..we can catch them what amount we want

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! I found that I had to increase the mineral content in my very soft water to help the mollies survive. You can use Wonder Shell, Seachem Equilibrium, or some marine salt. Not sure if that's the issue for you though.
Thank you so much Irene. If my fish do survive it's all because of you. I will try increasing the mineral content and l will let you know. I love how you always help beginners like me . I hope all your pets and your family are doing good .❤❤😗
thats what i do but it quit working , i spread my flakes then put sinking food but the issues is my silver dollars will push the Cory cats away to steal the sinking food , so i just have to use more sinking foods now so they make it to the bottom
I have balloon mollies so it's really hard for me to tell if I'm feeding them enough. I was so scared of overfeeding that I think I'm underfeeding them! I've heard that white poop can mean that it's a poop "without food", so I fed them and then their poop turned the colour of the food. I'm still so unsure on how much to feed them as I know they are gluttons!
If your fish and aquarium look like crap, you are doing it wrong. If your fish and aquarium look amazing, you are doing it right. So simple, yet so complicated at the same time.
Bettas will do literally anything they can for food and they will eat all of it, regardless of the kind. Mine ate the shrimp pearls. It was insane. Fortunately, I trained him to swim into the cup I bought him in for feeding and that gave my corys and shrimp a chance to eat in peace at their own pace. Bettas are insanely trainable, again, because they're so food motivated. They'll do anything to eat more. haha
hey i have a question, one of my platies is really shy and wont come out of his hiding spot and when i feed my fish, he wont come out and eat, what do i do?
Hi. Just subscribed. Question about feeding fish while on vacation. Will my tetras (neons, cardinals, rummynoses,...) be fine without feeding for a week? Thanks and keep up the great work!
I have 4 mollies, 4 cories, 1 candy stripe pleco and i've noticed the mollies are the greediest fish I've watched. The pepper corys don't seem to love algae wafers so should I get some sinking pellets? Their colours are bright, compared to the albino corys they aren't growing at the same rate. I'm a new fishkeeper so I'll try not to overfeed them. I tend to worry if they don't have enough, if you think it's a good idea I'll get pellets when I'm paid next.
There's a fish vet on RUclips that recommended 1% of their body weight. I can't speak for all fish, but I've noticed when trying to feed carrots to my snails that some fish will eat so much food that it comes right out the other end undigested, but it doesn't seem to harm them. A bit of research on this topic has yeilded a likelihood that a fish eating itself to death is unlikely. I think the main issue is excess nitrogen waste in the water column, which can be taken care of in a number of ways. Not feeding enough can reduce the amount of energy that goes towards the fish's immunity and reproductive system. Unlike us mammals, energy partitioning in fish doesn't make excess energy easily towards any on-board reserves. If the fish looks like it's getting fat, it probably has edema or an internal parasite. As a result, so long as nitrogen waste is dealt with, underfeeding is far worse for fish than overfeeding.
@girltalksfish Please Help!! I've been in the process of trying to get my betta's fins unclamped. I've done the lifeguard tablets 5 days as instructed w/o the carbon filter & I just did the bettafix 7 day treatment with water changes for both of those. I do use the dechlorinated bottled betta water bc I've tried treating my tap but it just eats away at his fins so I stick with the bottles. Anywaaaay, I haven't seen any changes for him. I want his fins to be beautiful😭! I'm not sure what else to do...
I just got guppies and I fed coop fry food once a day. They were so hungry that they are hunting down my ADULT cherry shrimp, I saw them team and eat a couple this way. (Even though they are bigger than their mouths) I am never sure if I am starving them. They always seem hungry. I started feeding them twice a day but I am never sure how much they should be getting. Guppies are piggies and always act hungry. I just need them to stop going after my shrimp lol. Thanks for the tips!
Great question! I feed my fish babies anywhere from 3-5 times a day (very small amounts). I feed the adult fish about 1-2 times a day, depending on what the food is. (For example, Repashy gel food seems to last a longer time without breaking down, so I can feed a larger amount in the morning and let the slower grazers feed on it all day.)
*Not sure how much to feed your betta fish? Watch the end section in this tutorial: **ruclips.net/video/r_QbnHir5Dk/видео.html*
@Riley Bachelor I made an account, so I'll try to get in the chat room when I can!
Nice tutorial, though I have found with Ramshorn snails they eat up any left over food. I have a few time lapse videos of them.
My mother: "Why don't you give your poor fish some more food, they act like they're starving!"
Me: "Mom, they always act like they're starving."
Haha, right? It's scary how much my mollies can pack in!
I starved my first ever betta fish
and my second betta fish, I OVER fed :(

Great video that deals with underfeeding. As a beginner, I was also underfeeding after watching too many videos on overfeeding.

Oh my god Dax is absolutely adorable! I hope you make lots of videos about her!

Good video, but I was most impressed with using a tote for a quarantine tank, as in "Why didn't I think of that?" Do you keep an extra seeded sponge filter in your other tanks to have one ready for a quarantine situation?
That's what I do! Or I have a dual-sponge filter in my main tank and then exchange the seeded sponge for a new one in my quarantine tank
