      I love this video. I like your method and that's how I established how much to feed my fish. I hate the "bettas stomachs are only the size of their eyes, so only give them 2 or 3 pellets a day" myth. It's ridiculous, my stomach is the size of my fist, but I don't only eat a fistful of food a day. Stomachs stretch, you just have to find the "goldilocks" amount for each fish. Well done sir, you explained the concept very well.

      I just bought a male Betta fish about 2 weeks ago and still to this day I have not seen him eat. We originally bought dried warms as the petco employee instructed and the fish never ate them. I went back after a few days and bought some flakes (same brand as yours actually) and have been feeding him multiple times a day and he still has not ate. At least not in front of my wife or I. We leave the food in for hours at times then clean it out. We do this 2-3 times a day. Do I need to try pellets or do some fish eat in private? I would really like for him to live.

    I got my daughter a betta fish two months ago and the pet store told us to just feed him ONE pellet THREE times a WEEK! (Monday/Wednesday/Friday). We have felt bad for him so we have been giving one pellet once a day (sometimes twice a day because we feel like one pellet a day seems like barely anything).

I figured if I can keep my German shepherd alive for 9 years I can keep a fish alive lol but overfeeding was definitely a concern but now I don't feel so bad. I got the same buffet flakes and mine loves it.

    Be careful with Omega One Flakes. I lost a bunch of neon tetras after I started feeding them those flakes. I had the Betta flakes and the regular one in the red container. At first I couldn't figure out why my healthy fish would suddenly die overnight. Then I caught it the last few times. After feeding, several fish were breathing heavily and moving their heads side to side in a way that would indicate something was stuck in their throats. After a very close inspection of the flake food, I noticed there were a lot of pieces of fish bones embedded in the flakes. Some big, some small, but definitely enough to get caught in the throats of some fish. You can do this yourself, take out some flakes and take a good look at them. Same thing in their marine flakes too. Since then, I've stopped feeding Omega One flakes and the random deaths stopped. I've switched to Tropical for flake food. Now, the only fish food I buy from Omega One are the freeze dried bloodworms and tubifex worms.

    • @mauricetan483
      @mauricetan483 4 года назад

      @@KarineTKnudsen You can still feed flakes, just try different brands. Always good to vary their diet as much as possible. Just make sure you inspect the flakes when trying another brand. Bloodworms alone won't provide all the nutrients fish need. So far Omega One is the only flakes I've come across that have fish bones. There may be others.

    • @TropicalFishGuy
      @TropicalFishGuy  3 года назад +2

      That's a tough one. I've got a very small betta in a 2 gallon with a couple of small guppies. But once either of them grow a little more, I'll have to move them out. Neons are schooling fish and typically need more friends. around 6 is the minimum I would recommend but not in a tank that small. I would choose something that is small and probably not schooling fish. Maybe a couple of small guppies (not too small). Good luck and let me know what you choose!

    My two bettas have trouble eating the pellets. They always spit them out, even if they’ve presoaked. So I end up crushing them and then they’ll eat. This makes them more likely to sink tho.
    Omg I can’t believe the pet store said that to you.

    Hi - thanks for this video It is something I worry about because generally on line we are told about bloating and I do not want to do that to my 2 Bettas!! I hope I am not over feeding - and when feeding them and they keep looking for more I have to force myself to stop giving more and I feel mean!!!! Hope I am not underfeeding either!!!! One of them is fatter looking than the other - just behind the gills & small fins on the side, his tummy looks a little "round" at times!! the other one does not seem to get this......they are in separate 5gal tanks and they have no tankmates - so will try and figure out "maximum" requirements!! People say their stomachs are no bigger than their eyes !! so when they want to chomp lots of bloodworms - I am thinking "hey that is way more than the size of your eyes - I am going to kill you with kindness""!!!!!! Cheers Kay
