    I was also told about the stomach no bigger than the eye, but my betta loves the floating pellets more than anything else and I find that he will eat one at a time very quickly, then slow down as he gets full so I then stop dropping pellets in. He's happy, healthy and I've had him for a couple years now.

    I fell for the 'stomach no bigger than their eye' myth 😔. It was only when my house looked after mine while I was away did I see how thin he really was. I feed him a lot more now and he's more colourful and active ☺️

    Thank you so much for all your effort in making this playlist. I want a 10 gallon setup for a solo betta in my man cave and this list is by far the most informative I've found. I've got a checklist made up, and I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp of what I'm going to do thanks to this. Subscribed.

    What a great video! I hate the stomach size of eyeball myth so darn much. My fish on average live to be much older than people think bettas can (6-8 years, but I've had many live to 10-11) and I think diet is a huge part of this. I agree with you most of the bettas I see are underfed. I believe splendens should be pudgy little fish. I personally feed mine large portions 2 (3 when pair conditioning) times a day without issue. Crowntails do indeed look exceptionally eggy! I have one who constantly looks engorged. I also love that you didn't even mention flake food, that stuff is so bad for their digestive tracts. Bandit is a nice fat boy, he will be in fine shape for breeding. I would say Daffy could use some beefheart perhaps. This will give her a massive boost for ovulation. I find it's an old trick that works well for new breeder females. Lots of beefheart and bloodworms to encourage their egg production. By that age she should be thicker. Adorable girl though. I have a few bumblebee colored females growing out that I sorta wish had some white in there. Yellow koi CTPKs would be pretty interesting.

      PilleR I think that whatever amount is enough to keep your fish plump and they're getting fed at least daily is what you should do. If once a day works for your schedule and your fish is doing good than stick with it.

    • @BigCityBettas
      @BigCityBettas 7 лет назад

      BrutalRiotGirl01 I feed 3 things for juveniles and adults. An assortment of protein based pellets, mostly Ken's brand varieties, bug bites and new life spectrum. A homemade gelatin food with beefheart, shrimp, all my frozen foods as well as vitamins and many freeze dried powdered things (tublixflex worms, black worms, plankton, krill, spirulina, etc) And then for frozen I feed daphnia, cyclops, beefheart, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp or bloodworms. I soak all my foods (except the gel which it's already been added to) in Selcon, vitachem and garlic extract.

    What a great video! I fell for the myth of bettas only eat as much as their eye so was going with that. Now I know why my bettas never seem to get bigger and too slim! Poor guys after watching this gave them extra bug bites and timorruw will be more blood worms than just one or two small blood worms. No wonder they always seem hungry! Thank you so much. Your bettas look great too.

    So glad to see that you feed more than that stupid "eye" myth. I had a Betta I rescued and he lived to eat. Honest!! He was not a fan of flakes, and I had no idea they were not that good for them, but I didn't have to, he flat out refused to eat them. He taught me well, and I am gearing up for a new Betta or 6 in my life. LoL As soon as I get moved into my new place this spring. It's almost February and I am getting very excited. You, Big City Betta, Simply Betta, AquaPros (and anyone else I missed), have helped me tremendously with your videos and I thank you for sharing your expertise. My future Bettas will be most grateful.

    good video I was worried I was overfeeding my betta..I feel a bit better now...by the outro I think I'd still be considered overfeeding my female betta though..she gets around 6-8 pellets and maybe 6 fruit flies a day. O_o It's hard to want to cut her down to less though; she seems so happy and healthy; a super active betta.

    Finally!! I couldn't find info about my betta's bloated belly after eating, other than more serious looking bloat. It's likely because he is a crown tail! I thought I was feeding him too much possibly causing distress, so I started feeding much less and that went away... he acts like he still wants food, but I was scared to cause more bloat. I figured I'd go with the eyes the size of their stomach/don't over feed your fish/betta's can go a while without food. He's fairly new to us, so he hasn't gone long with smaller portions. Thanks!!

    Absolutely loooved this entire series! It definately has helped me get started on fish keeping. I do have a few questions, so bare with this long post 😆. So far, I have been cycling my tank for a little over a month now (just making sure my tank is completely ready for a fish hehe), and I've been noticing it has a weird odor to it (also foamy bubbles around the perimeter of the tank). I have a 10g tank with a heater and filter, and I use gravel as my substrate. I have two moss balls, 4 tall silk plants (thinking about replacing these with real plants though), 3 cute silicone anemones, and a big cave deco in the center. I used the topfin bacteria supplement and water conditioner and api aquarium salt when I first started the tank, but I've only been using seachem prime and clarity throughout the cycle. I went to Petsmart to have a water test about a week and a half ago, and the employee said everything looked fine. She said that I needed to start doing water changes/cleaning my tank though. I've done two 10% water changes and cleaned the tank since then, but it still has the odor. So my question is, am I doing something wrong to cause the odor? Or is this normal? Also will I have to replace my gravel with fluval dirt when I do get a fish? Or will it be ok with just gravel? Anyway, thank you in advance for everything 😀

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  7 лет назад +5

      I would do a 30-40%water change and remove the silicone anemones. The silicone if it breaks off can be dangerous for your fish. Vacuum the gravel and you should be good to go.

    • @ModifiedMisfit22
      @ModifiedMisfit22 7 лет назад +3

      Lifewithpets Ok! I did the water change and cleaned the tank. I decided to take out all of the anemones and silk plants to see if that helps since I'm gonna get live plants soon anyway. It's smelling better already, but I'll see how it acts through the week! Thank you sooo much again, and I can't wait for more videos from you. Been marathoning them lately hehe 😀

    Hi Sheila, thanks for a great vid, I was wondering if underfeeding could cause damage to a Bettas fins? I was underfeeding due to the eye/stomach myth (now corrected) and after testing temperature, for ammonia, nitrites/nitrates, pH etc but his dorsal fin is deteriorating. He's in the tank on his own, nothing sharp in the tank, no gasping, no other signs of disease. I'm baffled as to what is causing it. Does anyone have any ideas?

      Females shouldn’t live together especially in a small tank. We have done 5 females in a very heavily planted 20 gallon tank. Whilst it was ok I no longer agree with them living together. It’s very stressful for them and their lifespan tends to be shorter.

    Can you feed once a day?

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  6 лет назад +4

      Twice is better otherwise the fish can become bloated. To feed them enough food it ideally needs to be twice.

    My fish loves to eat freeze dried brine shrimp that's all he likes. Is that good enough for him ?

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  6 лет назад

      A long term diet of freeze dried is not good for fish. Try other foods and eventually he will take them.

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  6 лет назад

      It's a Dension Barb. They get large and need to be in groups of 5 or more. They need a large tank and lots of room to swim.

    How much of the bug-bite do you feed? It looks like a pinch in the video. Ive been feeding my betta 5 pieces (making sure he gets all 5).

    My betta, I got her yesterday, just spits out her food when i feed her. Should i break it up so it's smaller? Or should I try different food? She is a juvenile, only an inch long.

      Soak the food before feeding it will make it softer for her.

    I was told to feed half or less a pea once a week to add moisture and help out with their digestive system. Is this a good idea?

    After how many days you do water changes in aquarium i also have fullmoon betta but i dont no yesterday he eat he tail???

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  7 лет назад

      If you have a filter then weekly water changes should be ok. Approximately 20-40% once a week. If you don't have a filter 80-100% water changes every 2-3 days.

    What is gel food? Why not just frozen food and pellets? If I already use those, is there any benefit to adding gel food?

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  6 лет назад

      The gel food is Repashy gel food. It is a very nutrient rich food. If you feed the others you don’t have to add the gel food. We like to give all our fish a large variety of foods for a balanced diet.

    Is the community repashy food ok for bettas since it contains greens but bettas are carnivores and need meat?

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  7 лет назад

      Yes it's good for them. It's part of a varied diet.

    Hi I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you had any good ideas for preparing for natural disasters like a hurricanes (for fish that is) Would you pack your fish up and leave if you were in a situation or would you just weather the storm out and keep extra water around? 😀 Great video love them as always! 💜

    • @MELODYMUNRO
      @MELODYMUNRO 7 лет назад

      If your not flooded the biggest challenge is often power loss...heaters and filters fail...if it's summer then heater is not an issue...but oxygenation and filtration can be ...there are battery powered air pumps you can buy (and solar ones too)..there are quite a few good videos on youtube about this topic...I think it would be a horrible situation to find yourself in...I lost a lot of guppies out of my outdoor tubs thanks to the rain from cyclone Debbie..tubs overflowed : (

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  7 лет назад +1

      I'm not sure what I would do. I have battery powered air pumps to keep the water moving that would last for several days. I wouldn't be in a position to pack the fish up so I would do my best for them if I had to leave them, which I may be faced with this week!!

    Hi I have a question about the gel food. You said you give it once or twice a week but do you give them one full cube of it once a week or half a cube? I know how often to feed it but I’m not sure how much. Thank you!

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  7 лет назад

      It depends on how many fish or snails are in the tank. Some tanks get many cubes others only one cube.

    • @emmas5800
      @emmas5800 7 лет назад

      Lifewithpets There would be only one Betta and no snails.
