The Night Alaska's Most Prolific Serial Killer Was Caught

- Sometimes a serial killer will strike and then lay low for a year or more before killing again. Others will travel from city to city, state to state, staying ahead of those hunting them. Some kill in sprees, rushing to pile up victims before local law enforcement finally catches them.
But what if one was simply hiding among an uptick in violent crimes and homicides in a city, shielded by statistics and a society becoming too used to street violence? That may well have been what happened in Anchorage, Alaska in the summer of 2016.

“My Mama says that alligators are ornery because they got all them teeth and no toothbrush.”
So true. promoted dog fighting, what a despicable individual he was. Killed all these wonderful ppl for his personal thrill, what a devil he was.
My thoughts exactly!
💯💯💯
People involved with dogfighting ARE criminals! Then add drugs. Not such a wholesome guy, hey!
But neither of these things prove he's a killer. Just that he's a pos!
However, having the murder weapon in his possession, plus trying to kill the police officer, are, imo, irrefutable proof.
He's guilty as sin!!

Everyone keeps saying it's not his nature.. he wasn't just found with the murder weapon in his possession, he was found unloading that weapon, completely unprovoked, into a police officer.
yeah but you know 15 years ago he was really a good kid
@@svampebob007 🤣
Oh he was "provoked", because he knew that he had the weapon with which the murders were committed, and that they could connect him to those crimes. He did not know that he was being stopped for not paying for the taxi because he did not even get out of the taxi. He could only guess why the police stopped him, and when you have 5 murders on your conscience, you very often look over your shoulder and very often become paranoid. And the fact that relatives and friends "can't believe" that he would do something like that - an old story that repeats itself, people confuse emotions with reality. Probably no one but him knew about the demons that ran rampant in his head.
The effing guy unloaded the gun on a cop. I think it’s safe to say that he was a killer all along.

Not everything comes down to right or left in life. You’re talking like a brainwashed person. There wasn’t enough evidence to charge THE DEAD GUY with the past murders so yes, it could be questioned.
Hate subbing? That’s just weird.
@@Moonbunny55 I appreciate your viewpoint, but I disagree. The gun that was used to kill the other victims was proven to be the gun he used to unload on the cop. And I agree, this has nothing to do with right or left, it has to do with "progressive" identity politics.
@@johnq.random1496your statement was almost correct. He was found (and unloaded a clip into a police officer with) the exact gun that was *used* in the murder of the other five people. I agree with you in that I definitely think that he did it. However. There is technically, no matter how small it may be, a possibility that someone else used the weapon to commit the murders. Likely? Obviously not. But he is dead, and because of the nature of this specific crime, there can never be 100% certainty.
Not sure why asking why upsets you either, all there is left to do is speculate. Why does any murderer commit murder? There will never be an answer that justifies the act (excluding self defense). Why not ask why?
the fact that he shot at the officers solidifies that he committed those murders. if he was so “harmless”, he wouldn’t have done that in the first place.
Seriously, calling it a mystery is laughable. The guy did it, end of story.

Not sure about Anchorage but for years Alaska had the highest crime rate.
Anchorage has had one of the highest violent crime rates in the country for a loooong time.
Alaska has always been known as a place for criminals to hide. They also have had the most serial killers per capita going back many years.

Extremely gripping! And yes, as others have speculated, the fact he nonchalantly continued walking despite the officer's bullhorn warnings, then calmly turned around, approached the officer and point blank shot at him, undeniably places him as the culprit who murdered those other people. I pray for the families left without definitive answers.

As someone from Anchorage, i would say its a FAR stretch to say it has the same accomidations as any other major city as well as blaming violence rates on gang violence. Thats a line of crap. Anchorage and Alaksa is full of politicians that prefer to see abused children die than become financial burdens on the state. Literal quote from a seated Alaskan elected representative. The mayor swore they would never surrender areas of the city to those that would make it unsafe. Every public park is now unusable due to them closing all the homeless shelters and camps popping up rigjt after. No one can go outside withpjt threat of violence in anchrorage. That being said, DV is still MUCH more deadly in Alaska than gang violence. There are no good arts events, concerts, has some of the worst education systems of any big city, and due to lack of any infrastructure, there is literally zero resources for those suffering from mental health issues, poverty, single parenthood etc.

The thing with serial killers is, the people they know will always say that its "not in their nature" they "never saw it coming", they "cant belive theyd ever do something like this". Its because serial killers are really good at compartmentalizing. More often than not, serial killers dont look or act like what youd think anserial killer does. So it's unsurprising that so many people who knew him say those things. Thats what makes serial killers so insidious.
Would a non violent, non guilty person just unload their gun on a random cop? For all he knew he could have just been asked a question & gone on his way.. He knew he was guilty, thought he was going to prison & wanted to go out swinging instead of getting arrested
That, added to the fact that he was indeed carrying the offending gun.

I also believe he was looking for someone to kill. Of course, this pure speculation on my part.
2. He refused to stop when the police asked him to stop
3. He then turned and unloaded the gun into police car/officer. To me, that pure intent to kill officers without hesitation.

I remember I was in Provo Canyon School in 2012 in Springville Utah and it’s one of those tough love schools like Danielle Bergoli went to and the same one Paris Hilton talks about in her documentary. I remember about 10-15 girls there being from Anchorage. All of them had been in some type of “gang” or whatever and most did drugs. I didn’t really think about it then but anchorage does seem to have a lot of crime and troubled youth and violent adults. And drug crime. It’s sad. But same with Canada if I’m being honest. Almost everyone I know from Canada is an addict or criminal of some sort. I did drugs for 10 years and I for some reason was surprised to know about Canada and Alaska. Canada was always the “nice place” and I thought Alaska was more remote and less technological when I was a kid until I was about 22. It’s sad so much of the world has these issues.
The reason you feel as if everyone in America and Canada are drug and alcohol infested and addicted, is for one reason only. You lived in that world and all you knew was part of that environment. Your view becomes distorted. It will take a bit longer but eventually the longer you stay away and out of that world. The fewer people you get to know are even aware of what you describe and think. Until one day you realise that you can't even think of 1 person to get you the stuff etc and then it's the other way around and finally your world view has adjusted itself to the current situation you're living in.
I know from personal experience, I was an alcoholic and my then partner a heroin fiend and if desperate a poly user. I was surrounded by them all I could see where junkies.
Now 15 years later the only thing I can tell you for 100% certainty is who is a meth head or heroin not just by their looks but I can recognise it in their voices... that's how fine tuned I had become to that horror show.
So hang in there it will righten itself and one day you too can't find a single dealer or homeless junkie. Goodluck and all the best. No matter how hard it is at times it's na thousand times better than with the addiction.
Glad you both were able to quit!!! Kudos to both of you, keep fighting the good fight!! Have a great rest of your day!!!
I know. Most cities are sewers and they attract vermin.
What is the purpose of keeping it secret that the same person was involved in all of the shootings ....to not upset the community. That is BS. People have the right to know and it shouldn't have been this big secret for so long
So the perp would not ditch the gun or change his MO. Without the gun the police really did not have a case if he were to be arrested due to the sketch. It was never mentioned if the killer had left any DNA evidence at any of the crime scenes so my assumption is the gun was the only way to link the killer to the killings.

26:09 If you haven’t spent time with someone in 10+ years, do you even really still know that person or at least the current version of themselves?
Some people seem to totally change.
He was 40 when he died, and she hadn't seen him since his early 20's according to the math, so yeah WTF is Jabba talking about?
You j7st never know people. What triggers them to do the unthinkable. I feel tlfor the families of the ones killed. This man had real deep-seated problems that showed in his actions that people blew off. Like his former roommate. She down-played his actions. Like saying, "They all sold drugs." Or when she said he sponsored pitbull fights and how the dog killed a rabbit. She also said the look he had on his face when describing the incident, and she even chuckled. That is not normal behavior. Then her saying he was a Godly man. Yet the signs were visible. Nobody thought to talk to him. The depression he must had gone through when he dropped out of college because he had a hard time at a division 1 school. He must have felt like a failure. He gave up. And everything changed. And nobody paid attention. Sad.
Its called denial
“I’ve known him for a long, long, long time.. but, I haven’t seen him for 15-20 years.” Lmao, what a stupid statement 😂
He died when he was 40, so she hadn't seen him since his early 20's, and as everyone knows, nobody changes once they hit 20. Especially god fearing people.
Well presented
Story 5.....made me laugh out loud when the smell was described as trash like driving through Newark NJ. Im a NJ native and yeah driving through Newark or over Camden
Knowing there was a likely serial killer roaming the streets after midnight you would think the poor cop would have taken more care and made sure he had back-up before pulling up to the killer wearing a camo jacket like the girls previously witnessed.
The most common thing people say about serial killers is how shocked they are it's them. They never would've guessed.
Excellent documentary, and the narrator did a good job and has a great voice
