A couple days ago I thrifted a vintage blazer from the 70s for only $2…gray houndstooth with contrast panels on the lapels and in a slim, slightly cropped & boxy fit that looks tailored to me!
My suggestion is for people to figure out there best colors before investing. I had a custom color analysis a while back, and don’t wear black, gray, navy or much white. My neutrals are camel and brown, with olive a quasi-neutral. Darker shades of teal and pine green are also fairly flexible for me. Love your work, Audrey!
I 💯 agree. It's important to know what colors look best on you and go well with the pieces in your closet!

I think a video about fit would be great. For example, if you find a blazer you love but the fit isn't quite right, what kind of tailoring is possible and what good tailoring can cost.

My favorite blazer is one I found in a closet at my parents’ house when helping them clean. It was my moms from the 90s and it was perfect! It is a black tweed plaid pattern, wool, subtle shoulder pads, pristine condition in a garment bag. It makes me feel special when I wear it because I think of my mom in the business world many years ago. 😊
Audrey can you do a video showing us all the clothes you have? And which ones are seasonal, which ones you wear less often, how you organize your closet etc.? That would be fun to see all your clothes!
I have discovered that I feel more comfortable, and more "me", when I wear blazers rather than cardigans. On my wish list is a tweed or herringbone jacket that I have yet to locate...but when I do, it's coming home with me.

I was so excited to see blazers really back this Fall Season, not that I am tired of seeing lounge wear 24/7. Regardless of the fashion trends, classics are the background of our closets. Lost my whole wardrobe due to a house issue (mold). I miss so many elements of my wardrobe that I built up for years especially my blazers. Living in the desert now in a more casual environment but long for the days when I had a full range of options in my closet. Thanks so much for this reminder regarding personal style that evolves over time! Time for some blazer hunting!

I too love blazers and have been adding more in my wardrobe, especially for the autumn/winter months. I would love to see you do a video where you show a variety of ways to style them. I have a herringbone blazer that I purchased about 35 years ago. I hadn't worn it for over 20 years up until last year. I am so glad that I kept it. It is a bit oversized and as a petite women, it was a bit challenging on how to style it. Thanks for your inspiration as always.

Your cropped blazer is an excellent added addition I would like in my wardrobe to wear with dresses in evening such a lovely style. My blazers are cardigans. I find blazers too stiff and constricting, as I have a small back but a large bust. I tried in the past, and had a gorgeous velvet blazer that I kept for 20 years, only wearing it one or twice a year. I stopped trying though, because I realize they don't suit me or my lifestyle. But I love seeing them on other women when it suits them.
A great video, Audrey! Thank you! I am an aficionada of blazers, as well. Many of them are from Massimo Dutti. I also like Harris tweed very much. I bought a blazer at Vestiaire last year. Of the brand Brora, it cost me about 50 euros. So great deals can be made on the pre-loved and vintage "front".
Audrey you should have a whole 📺 tv section on a national tv show. You are very inspiring.
On a network television show Audrey would be constantly pressured to push trends to get her viewers to spend money unnecessarily to please the sponsors. I think the whole point of her work would be lost.

Talbots has blazers, subtle tweed & herringbone , in petite - good quality & frequent sales ( online , catalog & in store ) . 💟

T's that I purchased 30 yrs. ago - at the time , a big splurge but so worth it . Another classic fr. different source is my full length B.Blass black cashmere coat , made in Italy , that even on sale was a big decision - also now " vintage " but still beautiful whether w/ jeans or formal dress . Quality ! 💙
@@cynthiajohnston424 I love that! Silk scarves feel like they’re always worth the investment. Last year I bought a JG Hook wool coat that’s full length and so beautifully made, another good vintage brand.
@@kimidoodles It is so difficult to find quality clothes - style , fabric , construction , etc. Somewhere along the line , the public decided on quantity over quality & that casual meant disposable - aghhhhh... ! Many of us who grew up learning to sew were taught quality from the inside out - quite literally . My mom was a seamstress & thanks to her friend who was an interior design , while I was in high school , I became her assistant , learning about design & fabrics , etc. Lifetime lessons learned early . 💟
I love wore over sized blazers and vintage to the office and really for anything I think they make me look feminine (like I’m using my boyfriend blazer) but versatile and stile. Like you said the structure makes you look and feel so good.

I noticed in one of the pics you were wearing a brooch on your lapel. I would love it if you would do a video on brooches and how to wear them. I see them at Nordstrom and Dillard's, but don't know if I should incorporate them into my wardrobe. I see Princess Kate wearing them all the time.

Thank you for your insightful video! I want to know more about how to fit and over fit blazers to my body. I like to wear comfortably, but sometimes I found that the shoulder part is a bit tight or too big for me after buying. I use brasees for work. I am looking forward to your upcoming videos!
I like the way you folded up the sleeves on your gray blazer that you were wearing as your narrating. Could you do a video about the little things we can do to style the clothing we wear and create a better silhouette?

Now I know why I am drawn to certain blazers…. It’s all the ones with an equestrian vibe 🥰 I’ve loved the preppy/Ralph Lauren/ equestrian blazers ever since I was young. I still have blazers from my teens that I absolutely love. They are stretchy and look like I am going horseback riding if I pair them with tall boots.
My colors are olive greens, rich browns, tan glen plaid, and a velvet peacock blue.
I just cannot find a good blazer anywhere. A few years ago, I found a Calvin Kline....but would love a good herringbone....all wool
I love blazers too but I'm not sure about how big I should go so my style would evolve.
Working at home and doing zoom meetings, I rarely need a blazer but have several just for the effect when needed. I dislike oversized blazers which are merely a trend and not worth an investment.

I love your videos, Audrey! When I was in high school (50 years ago) I wore a size 12. Thru the years the sizes have changed & I wear a size 8 although I weigh 10 pounds more. I thought about buying a vintage blazer on EBay but I don’t know how the sizing would work.
It might help to contact the seller to ask for measurements.

Love these videos but you'll be lucky to find even one blazer in my wardrobe let alone 7 😂I tend to look far too boxy / butch in a blazer, and the length always seems frumpy on me..... and I can't be arsed to put in the groundwork to find anything that does fit!

What sleeve length do you prefer when it comes to oversized blazers? I couldn't see the sleeves just "down" in any of your looks... but I'm altering an oversized blazer today and trying to figure it out! ;)
It’s totally personal preference! Traditional tailoring guidelines say the sleeves should hit the top of your thumb joint when your arms are hanging naturally to your sides but I prefer all of my blazers and jackets to be shorter than that. I like all of mine to be around 21-23 inches in length from the shoulder seams - so just above my wrist bone. If I can’t have the sleeves shortened by a tailor I cuff them or push them up ❤️
@@AudreyCoyne Thank you! There are some great YT videos on how to shorted blazer sleeves yourself if you are ever interested! It’s a bit of a brain puzzle bug not actually difficult. 😄
🥼Excellent review! ...I have been wanting a "vintage" tweed blazer to have "some definite wear", so it looks like I have worn it alot fall/winter, giving it a country vibe with tall leather boots... Audrey, I wonder if you could comment on my quest to find a quality velvet blazer... I want to be able to wear it looking "dressy" but not dressed up like for an evening event... something to wear dropping by for cocktails informally 'before dark', meaning without a formal cocktail dress... Audrey, in your experience, would you avoid jewel tones quality velvet (the lucious velvet you want to reach out and touch), although I am partial to classic black or grey or burgundy or navy... I do not know what to look for in a velvet blazer! Is there such a thing as a "vintage" velvet blazer, should the buttons be changed to give it a Pearl or mother-of-pearl button or matching velvet covered buttons?? No "gold", I don't think... Any thoughts? Thanks!

Would you mind posting some links to some classic-looking blazers that are less expensive? I’ve been trying hard to find a blazer, for the last few months, that isn’t flimsy, cheap, sloppy looking, but also not crazy-expensive. They’re so so hard to find! I’ve also been looking on Amazon, but have trouble trusting their reviews.
Curious, do you tailor or buy petite? Your blzers all fit perfectly. I am 5'5 so not petite but have a short waist and short arms. Blazers in my size always look too big on me.
I would love to know, how many cm past your shoulder do you look for in a blazer for a classic vs. oversize fit? How does the shoulder measurement compare to your actual shoulder measurement? I would love to know because it's hard to get the sizing right!
Do you wear blazers all day, like a sweater, or do you take them off when you're sitting at your work desk?
That is a good question. That is the main reason I am not too into blazers. They look great when I wear them and walk around outside when the weather is cool but not cold. But whenever I get inside, it is always heavily airconditioned all year round. The blazer is too hot for winter with the heater blasting. For Texas summer, it is almost laughable to wear , even if it is air conditioned inside.
Blazers are not really part of my wardrobe. I need to consider them again. They look great on you and we are the same height! I love the cropped and fitted blazer you wore especially.
I was wondering about your plaid green blazer? I love that one. Do you remember where you bought that one? I would love any info on blazers. I'm having trouble wearing blazers in the summer though even though they are linen!
