Interesting, especially since a Christopher Nolan film (DUNKIRK) releasing very soon also depicts the Dunkirk evacuation, but from the perspective of the military and civilian personnel directly involved in the event.
This has to be Oldman's year for the Oscar. He didn't get it for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, IMO he should've won for that, but if he can't win with this I don't know how the Academy will ever give him anything that's not an Honorary Oscar, which isn't the same as winning competitively. I'm pro Oldman for the Oscars this year.
also I remember reading about it when Coppola's Dracula came out - Gary Oldman is allergic to most of the make-up ingredients, this has to account for something when he was acting as the Count. don't know if they made new formulas with no latex etc. but still ;)
Actually Gary Oldman was nominated but lost to Jean Dujardin for THE ARTIST that year. This year will be interesting, with not only Oldman and Day-Lewis, but also Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Joaquin Phoenix and more. Interestingly, Phoenix and Washington were both nominated in 2012 and lost to Day-Lewis that year.

That guy literally said "i hate the Indians, they are a beastly people with a beastly religion"
I want to see this movie as much as I have ever wanted to see one. Gary Oldman is arguably the best actor ever, he is definitely way under appreciated. He can be anyone and it is clear that he IS Winston Churchill in this film. I was actually holding my breath in parts so I didn't miss the dialogue.
I wanna see Dunkirk and The Darkest Hour so so badly!!! Trust me folks... I've learned and been studying a lot about WW2 and Winston Churchill and I just love History

Well him winning a golden globe yesterday is sure fire hit of him winning an Oscar? Sometimes it doesn’t work out, but a lot of the time if the person has won a golden globe they are favourite for an Oscar!

Ronald Pickup was quite brilliant as Chamberlain. He should have won the academy award for best supporting actor.
It is also written by the writer of The Theory of Everything, which landed Eddie Redmayne his OSCAR.
Churchill was one of the most interesting and colorful politicians of the 20th century. You can't go wrong with him.
