3:05 Come to think of it, in chess moving your king into check would be an illegal move. So it goes without saying the opponent would have to point it out
out of all the scary scenes in umineko, I was the most unnerved with this one. Especially looking at it from a character's perspective. The narrative constantly states the strangely incomprehensible tension between the two, even though there's absolutely nothing strange that can be seen from them. Something strange and extremely wrong is happening right now but you have no idea what it is. It's that kind of unknown factor that just makes it all the more creepier, adding to the already uncanny situation. More exemplified by the chess analogy that was then stated afterwards. What would we see, as the readers, if Will actually enforced Shannon to do as he said? Would it have broken the gameboard apart? The fact that he was THAT close to breaking the game is already very scary.
It is very like the Shannon mask was about slip completely, and that if Will did not stop what he was doing spoilers Beatrice was going to pop out, and murder the hell out of him.
This scene came out of nowhere- it’s like when you go out of bounds in an otherwise tame video game and find a secret/cut content the developers did not mean for you to see and is needlessly scary
This was the creepiest scene for me, though it was even more unsettling with no voice acting at all, with the all caps text moving slowly like that. That's why 7-weights still unnerves me to this day.
To me it was the lover's duel in Episode 6, but yeah this one just made it more certain. The fact that furniture is "half a human" and that one had to die for other to exist, just made it more and more certain
Gotta love how Shannon tried intimidating SS Van Dine of all people to not see one particular person, practically giving away her identity. Worse comes to worse, Will could probably kill Shannon easily anyway, although he might accidently break the gameboard if he did that.
BIG spoilers. "You and Kannon are identical! Are you sure you arent biological siblings?" "Haha! I mean, have you ever seen me and kannon in the same room?" *7-Weights starts playing* "...What did you say?"
From a non-ShKanon perspective, this would also mean that in case he would "lose face/points" for that clumsily using his authority, they expect him to not break the rules.
I like how people are saying they found the voiceless version of this scene creepy but I think this one is waaay scarier; her voice, while polite and almost normal sounding, becomes emotionless and I love how the script becomes more and more distorted, despite the seemingly normal conversation showing that there is more going on under the surface and of course there is Shannon's blank eyes and the gradual change in the background.
This reminds me of trying to close processes on your computer and it says stuff like "you need administrator rights to execute this action" - and once you log in with your administrator account, it just says "killing this process will render the device unusable. Continue?"
I agree I really felt creeped out by shannon in that version. I blame the voice direction for only gave Shannon's VA to speak normally, despite her text looks spooky They should at least change her tone to be more intimidating or maybe make it sounds like broken recorder
@@Bob-fj1hm Personally, I think Shannon speaking normally adds to the strange gut feeling that something *is* very odd despite the conversation looking more or less normal to the eyes of a third party, so you’re not quite sure why it feels ominous
If you pay attention (I used earbuds) you can notice that Shannon's voice becomes emotionless in the scene, but very gradually, bit by bit. She puts emphasis on every word in the last sentences as well
Lol Shannon can't call Kanon and appear in front of Will and Lion because they're the same person. They're both Yasu (Yasu is Lion but Lion is a completely different person and from a completely different world )
That is the part that I don’t get - if Lion Ushiromiya existed as the great successor in this timeline, how can Shannon or Kanon even be there? Weren’t they alternate personas/imaginary friends created during Yasu’s rough times? Such rough times never existed here so how can Shannon exist? Probably something I missed. Gotta give this a second watch.
@@gustavohorn2194 best explanation i can think of is that bernkastel combined 2 gameboards together (one where yasu became lion and one where yasu became shannon/kanon) remember when jessica tried to remember the dining table arrangement and realized that something was wrong?
Unreliable narration. The same logic applies to the magical scenes like the goats and butterflies. The only ones who can see "magic" as well as see both Shannon and Kanon are the culprit's accomplices. The only person with an objective viewpoint is the detective. The detective never sees Shannon and Kanon together. Ep 1-4's detective is piece Battler while Ep 5's detective is Erika (stated with the red).
To add to this, sometimes there are scenes, like in Clair's theater, where Yasu and Shannon are seen in the same scene, but with other Fukuin house servants too. In these scenes Shannon is only seen by Yasu, while everyone else ignores her - Shannon is an illusion. I don't remember clearly, but this principle might be used in other scenes from Shannon's/Kanon's perspective.
@@JanneSala Also, Shannon is Sayo Yasuda's servant name. So when the new servants talk to Shannon, they are talking to Yasu with her Blessed Name. So both the voiced Shannon parts and Yasu's lines are coming out of servant Shannon's mouth. That is how Yasu disappears so easily.
I can't believe the clue that I missed the first time I played it. Spoiler alert If Shannon called Kannon over then Will would lose the game as then he wouldn't have been able to figure it out who killed Beatrice, or better about Yasu's different personas. Bernkastel figured out who the culprit, who Beatrice was (at this point, Bernkastel already have lost the game) and that's why Shannon couldn't call Kannon over, Bernkastel gave them that order and it was thanks to it that we, the readers can figure out something important about the history... Kannon and Shannon can not be seen in the same place by the reader or otherwise we would get confused about who the culprit is. And yes, technically they are seen in other parts of the story (like chapter 6 but that's an illusion from Battler to show that he understands the tale) itself but this chapter is all about revealing the culprit in a subtle yet direct way.
He wouldn't lose because Kanon and Shannon can't exist at the same time in front of the detective. He understood what happened and let things roll, almost as a mercy, because without love, it can't be solved.

confirmed: Bernkastel is an even worse coder than Yanderedev
The reason she couldn't escape the logic error in a reasonable amount of time was because she kept reading her emails one-by-one.
Debatable
Well who would have thought. If she could have heard that she would have used that to her advantage

Deleting system32
And probably because it wasn't voiced. Imagination - that's what made it scarier.
It is almost like Will is backing down because he is going to lose. Even though the roles should be reversed.
My theory is that if he doesn't back down Shannon will kill him.
It's called "7-weights"
She was gonna kill him if he insisted wasn't she?
either that or the entire universe would break; not sure which honestly
