Many double frames rust through because the winter salt gets in between and rots it out fast. They always tell you not to weld on a new truck frame, that’s because you’ll void the warranty. I welded mine 10 years ago using 7018 rod with a stick arc welder. Ground it flat and never had a problem. A lot of people like to mig weld because you can make it look good but there might not be enough penetration to make a strong weld. A good old school arc welder is the way to go.
Tbh on this truck the owner wanted it to be good enough to last 6 months and actually ended up getting over a year and then he took the engine and transmission out and put it in a new glider kit
Guys where may I go to fix the frame of my kenworth t680? The frame is getting rust , I need to know a good body shop to fix it, let me know pls, thanks
CRM6718 reason why it rusted there is because there was a bracket there that held moisture (plus salt and other chemicals) for a very long time . Tbh that rig is in pretty bad shape, it should be a donor truck because it a single turbo cat with 13speed
They just redid my frame and I was afraid it was illegal but I have been researching and I see all these stretched semis so I guess the shop did it right they welded it and put bolts in mine any advice
You're never supposed to stretch a frame in front of the axles! They should have at least put a line in it. The right way is to replace the frame rail with a new one
They cut it in the middle and added a rail bolted it and welded the two frames I can’t real explain but it does have an extra plate if I were around my truck I’d videotape it so you could see but they did it in the middle
I don't know about Pete's but our Mack's used to come with stickers on the frame stating that you couldn't weld or drill holes because they are heat treated.
@@deanlabbe9952 That's right and if the right DOT spots that little indifference under the paint, they will make it a donor truck, these people just try to get by with all kinds of illegal stuff
after market welding on the frame is fine as long as they do it by the manufacturers recommendations. which is not this way at all. but now that its ground down and painted the DOT will never know until the frame cracks where the 90's are cut.
@@tobybrown1179 I believe they want you to put in a brand new channel section with full penetration welds and then slap a reinforcing plate over the new piece that ties into the old stuff.

Man those grinding disc particles sure do a number in the old eyeballs, don't be a dingbat and put some eye protection on. Cheers
17:34 'Safety first ' and no eye or respiratory protection!
Is this kinda frame damage in that area common? I wonder what else is broken underneath...

Where are you guys located, I have 2018 volvo needs frame repair
Good job!!
Thought those frame rails were heat treated for flexibility and strength, guess not.
seems like an awful new truck for rust repair on the frame what are they made of

"Safety first," but no eye protection?
EndangeredSwimmer, Zane Hodge Yeah that's Chadd for ya 😅
Nothing like shop time in the winter, I love it, and love watching Chad bust his balls while you sit back and film it,
I wonder how safe it is

Heat treatment is on frame flanges lol need to re read the stickers guys
If the dot will shut that down every stretched truck on the road would be shut down
Keyboard mechanics don’t know shit, they tell you that so they assume no liabilities if anything happenes.... they cut and drill chassis all day long
Rusted or did it crack?
Rusted
How much does that job cost I have the same issue
Our cost or customer's cost ?
$65-$150 dollars an hour. so at least 4-8 hours at that rate.

@@scrapmanindustries mmm, round corners, or at least the fill piece to be rounded and fill with weld?

I love how they do all this and are to lazy to remove the wheels LoL! would have been such a better job .
