My sister used to own a really nice mk4 Golf 1.8T GTi in Reflex Silver, reg'd SF51UFZ (2001 to 2005, but scrapped in 2018 apparently). Storm Beige (code LA1W) was a very popular colour towards the end of the mk4 production run. I think even the GTi had the full VW colour palette at this time too. I miss the days when the restful blue and red dashboard back-lighting featured on even the base models of the VW range at this time. Equally impressive are the little touches like the damped grab handles, bright silver tailgate and bonnet struts, rubber-coated console and door trim and chrome boot hooks. The Golf's doors close with a solid, reassuring thud as well. Even today, these are very safe, strong and capable cars that are economical to run.

This one has been a good one for sure and not far from 200,000 miles now.

What an interesting addition to your portfolio, a great idea to diversify. I am not worried in the slightest - another stitch in life's rich tapestry.

    Interesting video.
In the old days cars used to have these chrome strips, or spot welded seams above the door / window frame where you could install roof bars, but I guess since the 80's those disappeared, and roof bars became car specific design, like in your Golf.
That old design also directed rain water away so it wouldn't drop on the seats when opening the doors.

Yes indeed I guess due to aerodynamics but certainly the older designs had there advantages

It's interesting to see a little bit of a different video, and an almost winter view of the area there in Manitoba. It's very different here in Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao Philippines. Tropical weather all year round, and everything is green. A video about your experience of moving from the UK to Canada would be interesting too. I've been living here in Cagayan de Oro City for most of the last seven years, and it has been a big change from where I lived the first sixty years of my life in Newcastle New South Wales Australia. Newcastle is a hundred miles north of Sydney, the capital of New South Wales. Where I lived winters could be cold, but it only snowed rarely on some of the mountains further inland. My Filipina wife experienced winter there back in 2017, and found it hard. So, I retired from work and followed her to the Philippines. There are four seasons in Newcastle New South Wales, but only two here in Mindanao Philippines. The dry season, known as "Tag-Araw" or "Amahan" (after the name of the northeast wind), and the wet season, known as "Tag-Ulan" or "Habagat" (after the name of the Southwest Monsoon). In Tagalog "Araw" means "Sun, or Day". "Ulan" means "Rain". The culture, lifestyle, and languages here are very different to Australia. So is the cost of living, which is way more affordable than that in Australia.

Golf Mk4 is a good car. I had a Bora (Jetta in North America) in the same colour.

Nice video, i used to have a Mk4 Golf 1.9TDi and it was a lovely car to drive. I am interested to see how this series goes as it is totally different to the other content but personally i like it.

Great video, I’m struggling to find one of these racks in Alberta at the moment. I have the same MK4 Golf in gold as you.

@15:48 Looks like the date of issue on the bottom left of the page, October 2003. That would be close to the end of the mk4's run.

In Europe yes but here in North America the mk4 ran from 1999 - MY 2005.

Liking how to do vids, i have friends who have Golf 5 or 6? Nice red well spec, i always wonder what servicing like basic oil, coolant, washer fliud, n main service like oil change. Does VW recommend any special service requirements?

I would say the same as any other car - only difference with a diesel really is keeping on top of changing the timing belt
