I can't wait to learn to do some free flight! I'm getting ready to go on that paracamping thing with aviator this weekend, which is gonna be sick. But after that I'd like to try backpacking a wing up a mountain, camping, and then flying down the next morning. How was the Burn, btw? Are we getting content from that or was it just too crazy to film into a cohesive story?
Come double down and join me and 2 other instructors for an advanced xc/ para camping class with team fly halo in November😉 There won’t be a video from the burn. Maybe a highlights reel but no story. I realized, it’s for me. Check out for 10 Days. Don’t worry about a video. Be here, now. The whole experience was fantastic, life changing, magical and all the other words. I can’t wait for next year.
@@JudsonGraham my first burn was in 2008 and I was probably your age. Nothing's been the same ever since. Glad to hear the place still has some magic in it. If I can afford it (if my investments actually start going up again) I'll definitely look into the November class with you guys. I've actually been on the lookout for TFH to make a post on their next XC course. Can't wait for the next video. Stay safe, dude.
I started my free-flight journey in 2009 on paragliders, your video brought it all back. I had some epic paraglider xc flights out in Spain. Are you planning on any paragliding xc flights or just ridge flying? Update- the grin you had at the end was epically big. I love the glass of conditions.
I believe I made a mistake early on in paramotoring trying to always go for bigger better higher faster accomplishments. Where I am in Freeflight now feels like that first 6 months of ppg all over again- i suck. It’s new, exciting and in some way unknown (except I have cheat codes because I already know how to handle the glider) but for right now my goal is to cherish the fact that I can go up and soar in some glass off and be completely content with that simple accomplishment for as long as possible.
Depending on the site, it’s kinda nerve wrecking at first. You always have to plan where you might land and if you have enough altitude to risk going for that next thermal. ;) Ridge soaring is a great way to start and at places like Point of the mountain.
I have watched many videos and I didn't see anybody flying my dream until I saw you today. Just turning loose of the handles sitting there being happy.... I bought an epsilon 9 and I'm going to classes to learn to fly it. It was the biggest size they had and I'm just at the maximum weight limit if I eat breakfast the day I fly. Your wing looks like it is a high aspect ratio wing and I thought they were supposed to be fussy and want to fall out of the sky with you all the time?
Ridge soaring and glass offs were my favorite when I was hang gliding. One arm on the bar, steering by looking. Look there, go there! Especially nice to see this one today since I am chilling with Covid. Yeah, it’s still out there, but the oral meds work pretty good. Thanks for posting, brought back memories.
Hey Judson great to see you free fly ans really great location. I just came back from Meduno in Italia. You have similar conditions there. The valley wind is pushing against the alps and you can stay up in the evening for ever ….later land at the pool close to our camp ground….. thats live at its best moments ….not to forget the italien food after Love you videos keep it up and ….Have fun Rg Bernd from Germany 😎🪂
Your editing and flow were spot on man! And the music level was perfect blend, which most others always miss and "db" it to excess. This one had real flow. Whatever you did, don't change it.
Glass off is something really special, I’m not sure you would get what we call a true glass off (restitution) at a site like POTM, I could be wrong cause I’ve never flown there. But at a place like Tollhouse the entire valley which is like a bowl is getting warmed all day, then when the sun dips behind the mountain and the valley starts to get shade the anabatic wind essentially scoops all the hot air off the valley floor so the entire valley starts to lift, I’ve flown a mile straight out away from the ridge slowly climbing the whole way, not anywhere where you would get ridge lift and no thermals, just smooth and slowly rising air spread over a vast area with absolutely no mechanical or dynamic lift. It doesn’t always happen but when it does and you are working to get down before the sun completely goes away it’s absolute magic.
Loved the video. I'm going to have to make a trip out to Point of the Mountain soon. Looking to learn to free fly and my paramotor instructors recommended this site, so it's really cool to see part of it.
Yeah I was the first one up, did a bunch of wingovers and some mild Acro, practice some stalls and recoveries, then to top it off I did a misty landing what a freaking day! Looks like you've had a blast Judson wish I was there
POTM is getting OOC. Been making a yearly pilgrimage since 2006 and the number of pilots has gone thru the roof. Head on a swivel! But yeah, north side is really nice up top. South side can be pandemonium. Still, prob the best place to learn as you can get a P2 in a week if you time the WX right.
Dude it’s something special. Kind of reminds me of that feeling I see in Tucker when the base rig comes out. You know something special beyond the sum of its parts is about to go down.
@@Catpanl If the pilot that is behind me wants to get covered puke. I have a brain injury and suffer from Extreme dizziness and nausea. I have to take special medication to even function
I remember that first time i saw you. It was in a tucker video about when your brother was getting his first ride on a tandem with you. You were very funny probobly scared the kid a bit. Haha 😂 in this video you are the same relaxed person. Like! Keep up the paraentertainment!
It was not a mistake to subscribe after the Cooks videos. Judson, that was epic. Bucket list stuff for us east coasters. Soooo jelly. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
For ridge soaring you can easily do it with a PPG wing if you are in the right weight range. Ozone for example gives both the Pg and PPG weights. Honestly I think it’s a great way to start if wind isn’t super soft. Mild to moderate conditions and even strong if you are skilled, is better with a PPG glider with trims.
@@JudsonGraham what if you trained on a Spyder lol. But I agree that a PG wing will be needed eventually if one wants to proceed away from the ridge and not sink out. Or fly in softer conditions. Or thermal. My only point is that those who want to try pg shouldn’t be afraid to use their PPG wing if they aren’t flying something very small.
Cool to see that you're already back passing through Utah. Thanks for the video! I've been flying paramotors and would love to get into free flight someday. Have never flown the point although I live a few minutes from it. Awesome seeing it from above.

Fantastic! Great audio - ambient, voice & music. Just speaking for myself but I'll take all the free flight videos you wanna make!

Hearing the airspeed change as you enter lift and wing crinkle in turns is magical.

Someone complement my stalls and misty landing they were clean and I’m very proud of them 🥺😂
Stalls were good. Landing is better filmed by a third party :) they are hard to judge from head mount. So was it too strong for other pilots?
@@Catpanl not really. just hive mind up there. it was strong all evening though
I never understood how those airbags worked, and now I know, and knowing is half the battle. Also the backpack setup is awesome!
Are all sites in the US that empty? If that were in the UK there would be 50+ gliders.
Usually north side is packed. It was really curious that no one was up.
Love the videos judson!

Looking to move to Utah so I had to look up the paragliding scene. Pumped to see you had a video on it. Love following your fly journey
Thumbs up before I even watch it cause it's a Judson vid so I know it's gonna be awesome 🤘
I wish all of your videos were just you capitalizing on choice circumstances. This was great. Thanks for the content!
Buckle your seatbelts. It’s about to get good.
Love the video even though it magnified my flying fomo haha! Great to see you getting into free flight, hope to see more videos of your paragliding!

missed you this weekend! nice landing boyeeeee!
Utah is the coolest state in the country man!
Looked like it wanted to horseshoe a little when you stalled it.
Sweet vid!
Look up theos video on the double pump stall technique. I got dialed with it on the ground before I tried it in the air. Makes total sense.
Awesome video love free flight content

Southside is crowded, but also insanely humbling to me. There’s pilots there on a whole different level
It was the puppy’s that did it for me lol
This is going to be my hobie next summer
Now try out XC flying :)
the lack of nylon freaks me out!
Epic! Weather was perfect!
Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!!
Dang that harness/backpack is some slick sh**!!!!!

I need to make another trip to POTM. That place is epic for FF..👏👏👏🤘🤘🔥
YES!!! So glad you made a PotM video. Ridge lift is pure therapy- I’m hooked
I smile for the first time watching your vdo. Thanks Jason, fly good 👍
Due to health reasons I can't do that
But I am building a 2.4 m Ranger FPV long distance setup. That's the only way I'm going to get to fly
Nah you can do trike tandems if you really want to.

Now that you've got a dedicated freeflight setup you can enjoy the awesomeness that is keeping your Explorer connected and clipped in to your harness.
So I am patiently awaiting to hear how your burn went! I wanna see some footage. Based on your sweet tie dye, you’re still feeling the “afterglow” ;)
What? No vario?.
Utah is such a good place, I never got to fly north side just look at it.
Thanks for posting this beautiful flight! The point, is one of the places I hope to fly sometime soon! Woot Woot! (>*
Such a nice flight ! Well done! Nice video! Kook time! Yeah!

Freaking amazing flight. Buy a damn variometer already hahaha
Fly sky hi is all you need for basic ridge soaring and thermaling.
Its just noise at potm
Epic , love the free style video , outstanding !
What's the best way to get down with all that lift?
