It was amazing in a time where it was the only performance he'd done of the song but it just doesn't hold up in comparison to the others.

It's all down to everyone's opinion but the best Billie Jean was Wembley 88. Best Moonwalk (toss up between Victory tour or Dangerous tour) and best Billie Jean breakdown was Soeul 99.
Honestly I could never vibe with the '88-'89 Billie Jean performances, I hate how much it's pitched down. It makes everything sound awkward and gooey (Beat It is even worse about this) which is a shame, because I could imagine his vocals being really good if it was in a more acceptable key like in the Dangerous Tour. His physicality doesn't really strike me either, he feels less energetic than the Victory and Dangerous Tour, and he's not as precise as he is in the Dangerous or HIStory Tour. My personal favourites have always been Buenos Aires '93, Sydney '96 and Basel '97. In my opinion the best breakdowns are Kuala Lumpur 1996 (Night 2) Auckland 1996 (Night 2) and Basel 1997 (again). The MJ & Friends breakdowns are good because he changed it up a lot, but the order of events is a little strange, he points far earlier than he should and it kind of kills the momentum brought up. Also the Munich one is better than the Seoul one, just more energy there.

He had the foresight for that. Just to add, the Soeul version had the longest toe stand, he did the reverse moonwalk, he did his infamous circle moonwalk and he had a pure 90s dance segment in it. I love the Soeul one even though it was very short.
Michael Jackson was just 2 weeks older than me. He was born August 29th 1958 and I was born Sept 12th 1958 so I grew up watching someone my age accomplish so much. He was so talented. At the time of course I didn't know that his father was so abusive. He did have a good mother but they were Jehovah's Witnesses so she wouldn't divorce him and she couldn't stop him from beating his kids and being so hard on them. They weren't allowed to play very often with other kids since all of their free time was practicing and they got in trouble if they messed up. I am sure that that is why they got so good at what they did but it is also sad. He is still fascinating to watch. RIP Michael.
