God dammit......ya got me with that one, lol
HaHa! Nice one. 😆

HAHAHA, well done!
she look like a badass with those arms.
way to go, guys!
I love this new trend of prosthetic arms of not trying to ridiculously replicate human looking arms, and just embrace the cool aesthetic of robot arms, she looks awesome with them, and James Cameron and everyone else involved is awesome for giving this girl cool robot arms
It has been the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that has driven the leaps made in prosthetics the last 20 years, some people at DARPA, having seen the sad prosthetics being given to troops who lost limbs in combat started a program to develop better prosthetics. They funded a challenge open to all to create, relatively inexpensive prosthetics hat were superior to the prothetics currently offered. This encouraged people outside of medical prosthesis industry, including many amputees to design.
One day we will shed our imperfect forms of flesh.
You know what would be cool...if it had a USB battery pack so they could charge their phones or whatever off the arm. And maybe a built in taser.

She’s from my area. My school actually raised a lot of money for her at the time she had these plastic hook on band prosthetics and we raised money to get her some nerve moveable ones. It’s pretty cool to see these new ones she has and to get them from James Cameron too. Great to see and glad she’s still doing well.
I agree 1,000%!

It's clearly about selling his movie using a girl to help do it.
@@Eremon1 Yep, and selling his movie lets him give shit to people like this.
Except James Cameron didn’t put out this video. Open Bionics did.
I’ve worked with Jim., on his movies, but off set... this is how he really is, truly humble, and very gracious.
At the time the James Cameron South Park ep was recently out, and he thought it was so brilliant was speaking in the third person yet some how managed to walk the line of funny and obnoxious. James Cameron is getting James Cameron a coffee. Can James Cameron get anyone else a coffee?
Alita: Battle Angel came out in 2019. This is December 2022 and the first time I've heard about this bionic arm collaboration, and I REALLY loved the movie and felt it was underappreciated. Took my whole family to see this great action movie and they all loved it. Laughed. Cried. Cheered. Prayed for a sequel. If it would have been just for a PR stunt, it would have gotten a LOT more publicity. This was a life changing contribution. Mr. Cameron and all of those involved...thank you. Happy for young Ms. Tilly Lockey getting her new bionic arms that match her positive spirit.
me too ! i just wanted to make comment my own and then i saw yours ! How do i didnt hear of that, maybe cause i live in germany i don't know. This is real stuff wow, maybe you are right, with the PR stuff but ... isn't this the best PR he can get, helping a girl with technology invented in sci fi movies and is in some form reality now. Maybe it's my german way of thinking but ithink this would be the best PR ever, that's what just boggles my mind, so why didn't i hear of it ? :D I still have some tears in my eyes writing this :)
@@beatricesomeone3300 I'm in the US. Nobody heard of this.
I hate to burst your bubble, but you might want to check her Wikipedia page.
Her mum got in touch with the bionics firm, and tilly has been working with them for years. She's essentially one of their main product testers at this point. All Cameron did was develop an Alita skin for her arms. That's it. This is not some life-changing miracle, he's just piggybacking on her story and the work the company has already done to make himself look good.
@@peterclarke7240 can't believe everything on wiki/the internet...but sometimes it is true.
I’ll add some stuff to what @@peterclarke7240 said: Open Bionics is a company that makes prosthetic arms for a really cheap price, since those arms are 3D printed. They are affordable and pretty decent, compared to the prosthetic made by big companies.
Also, they have been doing this for years.
Sadly, this was just a publicity stunt for James Cameron to promote Alita.
Why did i just hear about this collab in 2023 as a youtube recommendation? Great job dudes, and a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to make this happen. You sure changed at least one life for the better; hope her arms still fit / can be adjusted to later sizes she will need.
I wish the movie would get a sequel as it sure deserves to. One of the few manga/anime adaptations worth watching.

Pretty much. What can Disney offer?
Cirac1 personally, I thought they would go with the ones that Alita’s father put on her body since they were more quaint, like something a little girl would want to wear.
Hell yeah!
As a child of a quadruple amputee I can tell you he would have been over the moon to see something like this. Rest in peace dad

@@testjeaapiel9707 I do agree that this seems publicity stunt-ish, but it also doesn't just benefit the girl in this video. @behind you When we are living in our futuristic utopia overseen by our benevolent computer overlords I am ratting you out.
@Jonathan Pal fun fact: Cameron teamed up with WETA and invented, developed and created a new UHD camera and filming technique that allows Cameron to film in real time, actual live underwater action sequences without the need or use of a green screen to film Avatar 2.
Thus justifying his statements towards James Wan and Aquaman not looking realistic. Because all James Wan did was use a Soundstage and green screen with water / wet effects to create his underwater action sequences. Leaving it looking fake because despite being "underwater" they just looked like wet people on dryland.
@Necroglobule We need him to raise the bar again...it has become too low
he is not developing anything. Open Bionics does a smart outreach campaign and corporations from Hollywood jump on the opportunity for good marketing. Open Bionics has been working with Tilly for a while along with a lot of other kids. They are using 3D printers and modular electronics to build bionics for children as they grow. Currently Open Bionics are working to get their bionics available on the NHS. They are a wonderful foundation and they do exactly what they say. They are a non profit and all of their designs and tech are open source. Having Jim Cameron throw an even bigger spotlight on them can can only do good for their mission. I'm sure that Cameron has given an open license for the Alita designs to Open Bionics much like Disney has already done for their IP. I'm hoping that there are some potential engineers/makers out there in the amputee community because now with inexpensive printers and electronics they could really advance into what it means to be an actual cyborg. The future is now.
