Just discovered this one: ruclips.net/video/F_brnKz_2tI/видео.html Damn if they aren't good! A fully working arm that react and interact with nerve. Good but I love this era: science so great that resemble miracle! Sure, it ain't cheap, but I'm sure they'll find a way to lessen the costs.
@evoljellyfish 00 Thanks to the (leftist) NHS funding incompetent doctors, she wouldn't have needed American tech to replace her arms. She'd still have her normal hands.

Well, the arms showcased in this video are based on the movie Alita: Battle Angel; which, itself is based on an Original Video Animation called Battle Angel; which, in turn, was based on a Manga series Gunnm (translated to Battle Angel Alita in English).

This is amazing that this young lady despite her loss of her hands continues on like a trooper. Despite the loss she seems to be mentally handling it well.
To be honest, we're still far away in terms of utility from biological hands. I mean, the unique thing those hands gives more to its users are their solidity compared to biological hands. The precision is nowhere near as good as ours, same for the fingers, she can't feel anything with her hands too. Yeah, it's big technological step for disabled people, but we're still nowhere near from perfection, and by that I mean artificial hands that gives the same sensation that biological ones.

I saw an old man (50's or 60's) in the supermarket with one. Looked like he might have been a veteran (because he was still kind of a big guy) which I guess might explain both how he got one and his need of one. I just wanted to say that it's really impressive to see them in person. Like seeing them on the net is interesting but seeing somebody actually using one right in front of you is another thing altogether. His were all black and carbon fiber looking.
0:25 She's explaining and demonstrating her neuron controlled arm, showing deliberate control, but also she curls her other hand up and leans her head on it. Entirely casual, and so natural. Freaking wild.

She should be on the cover of Teen Vogue. She is gorgeous and would be an inspiration to other young teens that have disabilities. Impressive inner strength and a WONDERFUL spirit. Her mother and father should be so proud.
@CarelessFreak You seriously need Jesus. My comment has nothing to do with sexualizing a teen. That is sick. But I'm certain it would be inspirational for other young people with disabilities to see a young lady with prosthetic arms on the cover of Teen Vogue.
@ocelot. Teen Vogue (a magazine specifically marketed to 14 year old girls) recently had Indya Moore, a grown transgender female, on their cover. I'm sorry but I think that a young lady who shows other teens, who might have disabilities and insecurities, that it's ok to be different is more of a relatable hero than a GROWN MAN that had surgery to become a Trans female. No disrespect to the LGBTQ community.
The ones that say that she should be ashamed are people who never faced real adversity, they take their own hands for granted, I tore my ACL during a sparring match and walking became hard and getting back to martial arts seemed like a world away, but I got the surgery and persevered until I was back on the mat, never underestimate the people in your corner, they are best support in times of crisis. YOU GO GIRL!!!
At first you could think that it’s really cool to have those mechanical arms, but at the other side I‘m kinda sad that she lost her arms... But I‘m really happy for this girl, that she has the opportunity to have hands :)
It's only going to look up from here, you could go full Adam Jensen and add some retractible blades to those arms. It was still a tragic injury, but now you don't have to just coplay an anime Battle Angel, you can go all in with real augments.
>.> hopefully medicine advances more as well cause this could have been more preventable if the doctors properly looked at her the first time she came in.
*doesn't care how it looks, just wants functionality* Continues to look extremely badass with the added functionality bonus. Seriously, they did a great job designing this.
There is no "we" in innovation. The ones changing the world are autistic people and workaholics. You, sitting and scrolling instagram feed and living like a hedonist, is not changing the world.
Dear Tilly, Your optimism is so refreshing! Where most people would simply give up, you have persevered! Truly inspirational. You are a complete gem inside & out. Cheers!
I'd feel like a badass if i had those arms. she's so lucky she has such an elegant solution to her disability. i hope everyone without arms can get something like this in the near future.
These are actually the cheapest bionic arms in the UK, they're built using Nylon 12 so they can be essentially as robust as metal while costing a fraction of the price or weight. Look up Hero Arms, that's what she's wearing
"Disabled" doesn't even suit these kinds of people anymore. This girl can do plenty of things even without her hands. I think "differently-abled" is more fitting, because even though she can't do things in quite the same way that everyone else can, she can find ways to do those things just as well as anyone, if not even better. She can do more with no hands than I can do with two.
I don't care if it's a young girl or an old man. Those arms look BETTER than regular human arms and they always will. She looks a total badass! i'm so happy to see a tragedy turning into being the closest thing to a superhero we have.
Meningitis is a disease that attacks the central nervous system and can affect any other part of the body. Any infection that gets into the central nervous system can become meningitis.
Holy shit...y'all are taking my comment waaayy too seriously. Like it's an actual thing or I really thought that. Clearly several people don't understand while my several hundred likes do...
I can't believe there is even one thumbs down on this, let alone 1,600. Shame on them. This is a beautiful example of positive technology aiding courageous afflicted people in need of help.
She's like a badass Robocop. I guess it's fairly common to misdiagnose meningitis. I had it in my teens, so I was able to articulate that something was seriously wrong after sent home from the ER with a migraine diagnosis. I was back there a few hours later and thankfully a red flag went off with one of the nurses. She may have saved my life. Meningitis sucks.
I always liked the way she got her bionic arms , the makers had something to do with Alita Battle angel and decided to choose a candidate to show their new product ,she actually wore her new arms to the premiere
she actually received a pair of prosthetic arms designed like alita's berserker suit from james cameron and alita's team, so you can say she is alita 😊💖
That's because those arms actually are replicas of Alitas berserker body and was given to her by Jon Landau the producer of Alita Battle angel ruclips.net/video/dqvr2RHEtVA/видео.html
I have a prosthetic leg since September 2014 (amputated earlier that year). When I got it it was merely a fake leg and I wore my pants over it to hide it. Then I started to realize that people on the streets would ignore me or even walk away from me, because they thought I was a drunk. I don’t drink. Coincidentally I needed to have a new prosthetic leg and I decided to not fill it and to not cover it up. And people reacted so differently. They gave thumbs up (literally) and strangers became nice people again. Since then I purchased a cool robotesque leg. I even put lights in them for fun (when I go out). It really makes a HUGE difference! My only problem is the fact that these covers aren’t insured and I think they should be. If I could swap some of these cool looking covers from time to time, that would save me a lot of time at a psychologist. Thanks for sharing this video. We may be disabled, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be cool! 😎
Em NemNem I get your message but not everyone is on equal standing ground she’s very fortunate to have those hands but unfortunately this isn’t possible for many
What a cool kid! I love her bionic hands. She’s by far more confident than most teens her age. As she should be, she seems like a beautiful person! Tilly keep rocking those awesome arms of yours! I’ll be following your RUclips makeup tutorials. 💖
Not really she's pretty much just semi good-looking. We don't have to say she's beautiful just because she's missing her arms. Don't get me wrong, no disrespect. Just the truth. She's not stunning.
The "realistic" hands are actually creepy. The term "uncanny valley" is applicable. Those bionic ones are straight up cool. They are more visually appealing than the "realistic" ones by leaps & bounds. Very good metaphor, too: It's better to accept your situation, own it, and make the best of it. If you try to pretend something that isn't true, it inevitably becomes repulsive. If you're different, don't try to be normal, when you can be cool and interesting and amazing. Take a lesson from Tilly. She turned disability into a different kind of superiority.
I had a roomate who had only one arm. She wore realistic prostetic on her missing arm, And it was actually quite hard to notice any difference. Her prosthetic hand was made as mirrored replica of her healthy hand...
@JaynLiv Actually her arm was provided for, thanks to James Cameron as part of a publicity stunt for the Alita movie. Personally, I approve the publicity stunt. It helped a prosthetic company, and a deserving young person. It's one of those rare moments when greed and vanity were harnessed to make the world a slightly better place.
Yeah, remember how people conquered sky? No machine was match to a bird, until inventors ceased flapping wings. No bird is match to an airplane from that point.
When I see images of those "realistic" looking prosthetics, it makes me glad I've got both my hands. When I see the sci-fi robot arms, it makes me jealous that my arms don't looks as cool as yours.
@@PersonTP Honesty and recognition tends to be well-received by disabled folk; for instance, I'm not in remotely the same position, but I love getting compliments on my cane. Zap Gun isn't saying that they want to lose their hands but that they'd like their functional arms to look that cool, something that Tilly is clearly a fan of. Having folks jump in to call people out when they were just being honest is sorta the worst because it portrays disability as a taboo subject, and paints any positivity about it as rudeness. That, in turn, makes it a thousand times harder to be disabled because everyone is constantly tripping over themselves to be more polite than honest. I know it came from a good place though, so no judgement. Just trying to communicate the thing.
@@PersonTP don't be so sensitive by extension. Not everyone needs some protector to "defend" them against something they likely weren't even offended by. They do look cool and fortunately, with the direction technology is going, they will also eventually be, not only as functional as natural arms, but am improvement on functionality. We live in an amazing time in many ways.
@@PersonTP they literally never mentioned hoping to loose any limbs or appendages. Either you looked to hard into the comment or just saw what you wanted to see.
@@PersonTP well, everyone has opinions, and i respect your opinion but they just are saying that the robot arms are cool and they would want that if they could. one question though, how is it ignorant? its ok if you don’t want to respond to this

Yes I agree she is special
The ones that say that she should be ashamed are people who never faced real adversity, they take their own hands for granted, I tore my ACL during a sparring match and walking became hard and getting back to martial arts seemed like a world away, but I got the surgery and persevered until I was back on the mat, never underestimate the people in your corner, they are best support in times of crisis. Same, I'm sure it's expensive. But maybe one day it won't be.

Totally agree
If you have something debilitating that's treatable like 80% of blindness then go for it.
I had no idea how far we've come in prosthetics. This is incredible! Thank you for sharing your story with the world.
