Holosun 509T Long Term Review

- I have been using these closed emitter red dot optics on a variety of handguns over the last couple of years. I had several people ask about how things have been holding up and if this is still a good option to buy as the closed emitter market is starting to have more options. I go over all things Holosun 509T in this long term review video.

Thank you. I never thought about holster choices with this red dot. I am chomping at the bit to hear your review of the EPS Carry. Quality review.
Ill try to get that done sooner, my video list is crazy plus client work
Great job Dave. I appreciate your candor.
Appreciate you showing the holster compatibility
I'm super happy to hear the glowing review. I recently purchased a 509t and Staccato P for duty carry and couldnt be happier with my choice. Keep up with the great content!
How’s the 509t staccato combo been working for you? Getting ready to order myself one but haven’t decided which optic to go with yet.
@@Mastersnake392 It’s been a fantastic setup. I’ve had several other officers place staccato orders or plan to after taking them to the range with mine. 509t is awesome as long as you don’t mind the bulky look. Checkout the Holosun SCS320. It’s designed for the 320 but has the DPP footprint which is the same as staccato so you wouldn’t need a mounting plate and it would be more low profile for a fully enclosed emitter optic.
@@bmac3375 I've been eyeing the SCS320, but we will have to see how it actually performs once it releases. I take it the 509T plays well with duty holsters like SafariLand?
@@Mastersnake392 Yeah when I’m working the street I rock it in a 6360rds ALS/SLS. Otherwise for CCW and competition I run hammer armament holsters. No issue with holster/optic compatibility so far.
@@bmac3375 Awesome, appreciate the info. Never heard of hammer armament, I'll check them out.
I have four 509t’s. Two on pistols, two on rifles. The glass clarity isn’t great, but they’re ultra reliable and I love them. NOTE: A grease pencil clip will work as an adjustment tool in a pinch.
Merry Christmas everyone and be safe and stay warm 🎄
Glad to hear the 509 are working well. Because you mentioned it, I am running a Steiner on a Glock 40 with no issues and a few hundred rounds down range. Got it on sale and figured a German sight on an Austrian gun would be complimentary . 😂
I don’t have a 509 but I run an AEMS on my PCC and have had a few 507’s and 407’s on some pistols for a couple years. All work great .
I have a new 509T on my EDC, a Walther PDP compact using a C&H precision plate and Walther Suppressor height sights. Without the C&H plate, you’re using a double plate system which I hate and the 509 is mounted quite high. Thanks for the glowing review. I also have a 507K X2 on a Sig with absolutely no issues. Love the channel!
Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked it and sounds like you have a solid set up
How is that optic for ccw
great review, I'm buying one today. Luckily I got an Agency Arms AOS plate for it, can't wait!
How has it been?
I have a few of these. Love them. Acro P-2 is the only real competitor. They’re difficult to get and nearly twice the price. Until P-2’s become more available or there’s more on the market, this is the go too.
I got a AIMPOINT ACRO P-2 for sale. NIB never been open-factory sealed.
Why, in your opinion, is the acro P-2 superior to the Holo 509t? I'm interested in your detailed explanation
Merry Christmas to all
Merry Christmas 🎄
15:03 Good info...thanks! I'm new
Here in CA, I'm limited to a Gen 3 Glock 20. So, in order to bring mine into line with the Gen 5, I'm looking at swapping out the barrel (KKM), milling for the HS509T v2, and other upgrades. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
I have several 509s, including a couple of the ACSS versions, and LOVE 'em.
HOWEVER, I have seen two that had moister get INSIDE of them rendering them USELESS, and I have seen a few videos and some forum reports reporting the same moister issues... SO, like all things made by humans, some of them fail.
So far, I have not had to use their customer service.
I’ve been running a 509 on my G45 duty gun about 7 months on a C&H plate. No issues at all so far. Heat, rain & now cold.
Do you have Suppressor sights on your G45?
@@MarkellusPrice1 Angry Bear Arms fiber front, blk rear. They co-witness in the bottom of the glass where I like them.
Been a year, so I don’t expect a response. Did you get your 45 milled for it? Or was it MOS with a plate?
@@AlexJon14 It’s an Mos gun, I’m using a C&H plate.
Great review. Curious though on which you curretly prefer. 508t or 509t? Thanks!
Part of it depends on use and what mount you have available. Overall I think enclosed emitters are going to be the way of the future for duty or carry. The EPS are what I am going towards more and more but if its an RMR footprint slide then the 508 for the win.
After carrying a 507C x2 for a few months, I really got tired of always having to clean out the optic. This'll be my next optic or their EPS models.
DO NOT BUY EPS! Lots of distortion!
I have bad astigmatism and the Halosun 509T is the only optic I have found that does not distort with my vision. I have three mounted on Glocks and a Mossberg and will probably be getting another this morning for a Smith & Wesson PC 686+. So far, I have had no issues that required me to contact Halosun Customer Service. But, I consider that a statement to the quality of the product. I HATE using products made offshore when US products are available, but there’s no local options given my vision. Other than their origin, I LOVE HALOSUN!
i have an astigmatism as well, do you find the green dots to have less bloom, i heard they’re better for that?
You still rocking the 509t? Im thinking of switching over from an RMR. I know I see the circle dot better, but can’t get over the rep that an RMR has, so I’ve stuck with it. Thoughts?
Just got mine for offset. Love it
I know this video was a while ago really wondering how this optic would fit on the new CZ shadow two compact thanks
What Level 3 holster do you recomend for a full size Sig 320 for the 509t?
I carry appendix with a Glock 19 and a 507c X2 mounted to it. Do you think this would affect comfort at all being slightly boxier? Great video!
I don’t think so, I carry my 19 appendix and I dont feel the optic corner
Unfortunately for me I haven’t had the best luck with my 509t with a C&H Plate on an M&P 2.0 Compact Optics Ready. The dot came loose from the plate and the plate came loose from the gun and I just got a replacement in the mail a week or so ago all in the first year of me having it. The first one I sent back was eating through batteries, I finally did an RMA when my second set of batteries was dead in the first year. This gun isn’t carried often so it sits in the safe way more than it’s used. I haven’t decided if I am going to keep it and put it back on and hope the first one was just a slip through the crack or sell it and get an P-2 if and when I can find one in stock.
Had the same issue with my 509 and the same exact pistol. After almost a short amount of time it started getting loose from the C&H plate after just a few mags at the range. I thought the mounting screw was just backing out but the mount just wasn't fitting right on the plate.
@GunsandTactics would the 509T co-witness with a FN 545?
With the closed emitter you don’t really need the cover, do you?
Toasters Unite! If it works why not mount Air fryer? Thanks for the review...might try this ( Since no EPS carry's can be found) on 4.25 prodigy when my plate comes in.
More like a mailbox I’ve heard ha ha
Does that pic rail like interface on the bottom compatible with actual pic rail or only the adapter plate?
It’s a unique rail
I just bought this RDS for my G17mos. Will I need suppressor height sights? Any recommendations?
Yeah..sell the crappy red dots and but a tritium post...No dead battery, no shifting aim point, no breaking, no weather hassles, and easier to see.
Does the plate that comes with it fit the Glock MOS or is a third party base plate needed?
Need an MOS plate, I’m using a CHPWS
At least these are actually available.... Aimpoint is prioritizing LE/Mil with their availability of the P2, you will probably see a lot of sales missed by Aimpoint from people buying this instead....
Can you recommend where to get back green 509 for a decent price as well as a good light for a p320 3.9inch barrel that's bright and has condensed light like a spot light?
Rainier is my go to
Eurooptic
What mounting plate did you use for the Glock MOS?
CHPWS
Does your front sight cowitness properly?
I have a set of suppressor sights that work fine.
I don’t co witness I want the back up sights low and out of the way. You can check out my co witness video for more info
Good review, I am STILL waiting for Aimpoint ACRO P2, but in the meantime I have been eying the Holosun HE509T-GR X2.
Ill pick up an acro at some point but with the 509 and EPS I’m less in a hurry.
@@GunsandTactics would you pick up a x2 ?
I thought I heard something about it helping people with astigmatism?
Think this would work on a shotgun?
Which would you recommend, 509T or 508T for duty use?
Only a fudd would use a red dot on a handgun for duty use....and most departments wisely will not allow it.
@@chadhaire1711 to dumb a statement to full reply to
@@Ranger-kc5bd because you cant reply.....when you try, explain why a red dot with failure to operate with dead battery, failure to operate when electronic failure, failure to operate when aim point shifts due to recoil, failure to operate in bad weather, and hard to line up under stress works better than tritium post that has none of these issues. I've done most of the work for ya....LOL
Says “only a fudd” then says the most fuddly stuff imaginable.
I want one is it bad if the optic costs the same as the gun 😂
Does it help with astigmatism???
Everyone’s astigmatism is different but I have 3 509ts all V2 and no issues.
I love how people bitch about shit made in China like the phone and computer they’re watching you on was literally made in China 😂😂
The only way to not like over seas product is to hold American companies accountable!
Holosun has worst than most QC. What good is a warranty if the optic is alway in the mail
I’ve killed them all man, Trijicon, Leupold etc as well. Of the dozen or so Holosuns I have I’m pretty impressed
Admittedly I do not have any experience with Holosun, but I have heard of many guys having issues or them being DOA. My understanding from guys whether at classes, other agencies, or on social media, if you get a good one out of the box more than likely you are good. I’ve looked through Holosun’s, they have a very crisp dot and I like the Eotech like circle dot. I just wish they would tighten up their QC. our department is switching to g45’s with RMR’s. I have been approved to run my staccato. For duty I would really like to go with an enclosed emitter. I’ve been tempted to try Holosun but still have my reservations. Unfortunately trying to find a p2 is almost impossible. I have always ran Eotech, trijicon, or Aimpoint and they are treated me well.
I have 7 holosuns of different flavors…never had a single issue with any of them.
Boys and their toys....heh...as the saying goes....Funny how I bought into RDS (as a civilian...the thinking I wanted to Gucci my pistols...heh). Just to look "tacti-cool". ))
I've never been in a gun fight, never a LEO or military....but I can guess what real world scenarios are really like e.g. that LEO/MIL or CCW civilians engage only at distancces where we can actually see the body of the threat...so they appear at leat "2 feet tall" or taller...which are "point and shoot" distances. ..should be able to place shots somewhere on th body...that 2" groupings are not important...
In shooting sports...sure....put a SrO onthe pistol :))
I mean REALLY....has any one really tested this out? ?? Try putting 5 rounds centre mass as the "bad guy" is moving and shooting back?? :)) GOOD LUCK!! :) ONly in the movies!!!
Add ...most "good LEO" would prefer never to have to draw their guns. That is a good career. "...I've NEVER had to ddraw my sidearm!1...and i lived...never stabbed or shot once..."...
Yes my man, lots of tests and real world use. Not sure what you’re getting at with your comments. Best regards and hope you enjoyed the video
you sermons super intelligent on this subject, hopefully ur not too busy. if u can give advice,I have a live free lf320 rmr cut slide. I bought an rmr. do I need a seal plate or an adapter plate with post on it. I read different things. thanks for time if u see this. or can it mount directly to the slide?
Yup you will most likely need a sealer plate
Just hit 3k on my 509t gen 1 and 875 on my x2
Love mine, just don't get a slide milled for an adapter plate, dedicate the money to getting it milled directly for an optic.
+1 direct mount will always be superior
@NCS Well, that and..."Man I can't wait to try different red dots on this gun because I'm indecisive and love rezeroing...." said no one. EVER.
@@printingwithpeek4897 Sometimes better optics come out with different footprints. Like the Holosun K optic footprints vs the RMSc ones. Granted the difference there is literally filing the rear recoil bosses, so it's doable at home. But still, I'll take a modified K footprint over the original RMSc one, since it's backwards compatible and Holosun's optics are better.
@CallsignWulf Okay, I get that, but once again here's my point. You have an enclosed emitter optic...why are you getting anything else?
Because a newer cooler closed emitter optic comes out :-)
