    I love to see Cavalier vids and we have one of these amazing dogs as well, ours is free at all times, my heart doesn't even let me to put them in a cage. They are so soft hearted, know how to communicate and express themselves that if you pay atention to them, you know what they want, the only limitation they need is FOOD.
    They are Gourmands, they love to eat and are picky about food but they are angels in everything you can wish for.

      Why would 3 of the younger dogs be in 1 crate? There’s plenty of room in the kitchen Why would the 10 year old not have a bed? I ask this as someone who currently has 4 rescues (2 XL & 2 small).

    I love all your cavvys. I've got 2 right now. One is 14 years old and my other girl is 1 year old. I've had a total of 5 cavvys in my life and I absolutely adore them. They are the light of my life. Cavvys are such easy, sweet, loving dogs and so easy to care for. I've never met one I didn't like. I've never crated my girls. I always felt they were too confining, but your girls seem not to mind at all. I can see how much you love and care for your girls. They are well taken care of. There is nothing like the love of a cavalier. ❤❤❤❤

    Logistical question: are they in single crates for dinner, but then share crates for bedtime? And if so, is crate-dinners so they don't bother each other and shared-crate bedtimes so they are comforted? Do they prefer sleeping in packs? Thank you!

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  2 месяца назад +1

      You have pretty much nailed it. We absolutely have to use separate crates for dinner, or they would just steal each other's food. At bedtime, most of them need to be crate confined for their own protection, so that they don't wander during the night and get into trouble. But they enjoy the pack behavior, and have no problem cuddling together to sleep.

      We get our snoods from a friend who makes them by hand and sells them at dog shows. If you go to a Cavalier specialty show, you might find one. However, the easiest way to get a nice snood is to find a handmade one on a site like etsy.com. Enter "dog snood cavalier" in the etsy search bar.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  8 месяцев назад

      They do fine if you leave them for a few hours, but be prepared for a BIG welcome home when you return. Ours are crate trained from when they are young puppies, so they do well in a crate. Generally, I will put the younger ones (2 years and younger) in crates, but trust the older ones to be free in a single room.

    Just curious why Boo gets the bed but Tag the kennel? Your Cavaliers are all beautiful!

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  2 года назад +8

      Two reasons: 1. They have different personalities - Boo loves to sleep next to us, but Tag is a bit more of a loner, and often seeks out an empty crate to sleep in. 2. My wife Katie developed a strong bond with Boo, and the two of them are pretty much inseparable.
      It's just as well it worked out this way, since we only have a queen size bed, and there really isn't enough room for more than one dog!

    • @chaskat35

      They usually adapt very quickly - however, if the cat isn't very accepting of the puppy, it will take more time. Try to make it more pleasant for the two of them to be together; maybe give little treats when they are near each other.

    What a sweet video. I just have two comments - one, that you show three dogs coming out of one crate. Assuming they were in there all night, this is borderline abuse, because the crate should be big enough for the (one) dog to move around and lie comfortably. As a Cavalier owner for over 20 years, I am very knowledgeable about the breed. Two, you seem to feed them once a day. Most veterinarians recommend feed small dogs like them twice a day because otherwise they stay hungry to too long. Just some advice. Please don't be offended. I have no desire to insult, just to make sure your pups are well taken care of. I saw ribbons - what do your 'kids' compete in?

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  2 года назад

      Thanks for your comments.
      Please understand that dogs are pack animals, and naturally like to gather in a den setting. We leave crates open during the day, and most of the time our dogs choose to sleep in what they perceive as a safe space in one of the crates, rather than to hop up on the sofa or lie on the floor. Many times, 2 or 3 dogs will choose to occupy the same crate together, even though there are others empty and available to them. The crate you saw 3 dogs in is a larger size than what we mostly use for a single dogs. At bedtime, they go into it voluntarily, and they are quite comfortable.
      Our feeding schedule came about when both of us were working, and only had time for a prepared meal once a day. Of course, when they are puppies, they go from 3 or 4 meals a day, down to 2 per day when they are older, and eventually to just one "regular" meal in the evening. They do get treats in the morning, so their appetite is satisfied. Multiple feedings for adult dogs are actually far more important for larger breeds than for smaller dogs like Cavaliers.
      As far as competition is concerned, we have been active members of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club USA for nearly 40 years, and we show our dogs at their specialty shows regularly. Since AKC brought Cavaliers in as a recognized breed in the 1990s, we also exhibit our dogs in those shows as well. In addition, we have successfully competed in Obedience, Agility, and Trick Dog competitions. There are several dog show videos on my channel, so you can see what goes on there.

    Where are you? Are you back East or in California? Are your Cavaliers free from mitral valve disease? They are all adorable, I had a Cavalier King Charles And just September had to let her go to Rainbow Bridge🌈 she was only 11 and 3 months but we were Traumatized by someone that triggered her Heart and then it was down hill from there. I first thought her symptoms were all from trauma until I knew something wasn’t right. My heart is so broken , she had a Murmur but it was just a2 but never showed any symptoms of anything. Trauma does a #on any mammal! I want to get another girl but I need to grieve my Angel she was my service dog and the best ever, we were together 24/7 her whole life and what a blessing she was ❤😢. If your still breeding and you don’t have problems with mitral valve disease I would love to talk to you. Are you a member of Westminster kennel club dog shows or the club at all?
    Do all Cavaliers have issues with loosing teeth? How old is the oldest Cavalier you have had?
    Thank you for sharing your beautiful Angels 😇 with me . I love these dogs so much 🥰❤️🐶🫶🙏

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  10 месяцев назад +1

      We are in New York, on Long Island. I don't believe any Cavalier is free of heart disease, but if we can delay the onset of symptoms by careful breeding, they can live a good, long, healthy life. The oldest we ever had was Murphy, who lived to 16 1/2 years old.
      We are members of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club USA, and we also show our dogs in AKC, including Westminster.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  Год назад

      Our property is absolutely securely fenced, so that the dogs can run freely, which they prefer to being walked on lead. The fenced yard is plenty big enough to allow them to get lots of exercise, and take care of their potty needs when necessary. We have a doggie door, which allows them to go outside whenever they want, and it's open to them at all times, unless we are not home and available to supervise them.
      They do benefit from the socialization they get on little "field trips" to places like shopping at Home Depot, walking around our village, or attending a local dog show. That's something we do regularly - not for exercise, but for making sure that they know how to interact with strangers and new situations.

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  2 года назад

      I always add warm water to the kibble for my adult Cavaliers, not so much to soften it as for other reasons. The water aids in digestion, and it also helps to bring out the aroma that they find appetizing. Dogs have a much more sensitive sense of smell than taste, so the warm water helps make it more appetizing to them.
      For young puppies, I use hot water to soften the kibble, by letting it sit for 5-10 minutes, since their teeth are not yet fully developed, and their digestive tracts are much smaller.

    I find it a little disturbing to see them confined to a cage so much. I have had 2 Cavies and Neither spent time in a cage once they began sleeping on the bed! I dislike confining them to a cage! I Love them Free Roaming and being with Me Everywhere for Everything!

    😢 why are they in such tiny little cages with no pillows I don’t understand. It’s almost heartbreaking to watch how many Cavaliers are in one little miniature cage I’m sorry I just would never do that to my cavalier. We love watching your show.

      I've said this many times, but pardon me for saying it one more time. Dogs go back to a den animal background. Their anscestors lived in packs and found warmth, safety, and comfort in cuddling together in tight spaces. That instinct lives on in today's dogs. We leave several small and medium sized crates open in our living space, and the dogs voluntarily choose to rest in the crates, even though there is a comfy sofa and easy chair wide open for them.
      Right at this moment, as I check where my 4 dogs are, one is on the sofa, and the other 3 are in crates. Two of them are in the same small crate, even though there are two other bigger ones available. This is where they choose on their own to rest, not where I put them.
      As far as pillows and cushions go, most of our crates do have them inside, but the dogs almost always push them aside and crunch them up in the corners of the crate, allowing themselves to sleep on the bare crate floor.
      We often attribute our own human preferences to our pets, but dogs have their own instincts and preferences. I prefer to allow the dogs to have what they themselves want, as opposed to what I as a human being would want.

      We get ours from a friend who makes them by hand and sells them at Cavalier dog shows. The best ones are handmade, and you can find plenty of them by going to etsy.com and searching for "snoods for dogs."

      Dogs are pack animals, and come from a history of sleeping in dens. They are very comfortable cuddling up tight with each other, whether it's in a confined space like a crate, or on the bed with us.

    I don’t understand why Boots gets a treat and his own big comfy bed and the other dogs are stuffed in those way to tiny crates with barely any padding? 😢

    • @chaskat35
      @chaskat35  Год назад

      Tag is the one who gets the crate all by herself - she is 10 years old, and suffers from mild heart disease. The other 3 are young, and their crate is considerably larger than the one Tag is in. They like to be cuddled up together, because dogs are descended from pack animals that normally sleep in a cramped den.

      We only give the older adults freedom to move around while we are asleep, which kind of limits us to Boo and Tag. Tag prefers to sleep in a crate - I often find her napping there during the day. So Boo gets the special privelege.

      Nein überhaupt nicht. Hunde haben einen Hintergrund als Höhlentiere - sie kuscheln gerne in kleinen Räumen und fühlen sich sicher. Tagsüber lasse ich die Türen der Boxen offen und es gibt immer wieder Hunde, die freiwillig in die Box gehen, um ein Nickerchen zu machen.
      Auch wenn ich nicht zu Hause bin oder die jungen Hunde nicht beaufsichtigen kann, schützt ein kurzer Aufenthalt in der Box sie davor, in Dinge zu geraten, in die sie nicht hineingehen sollten. Es wäre unverantwortlich von mir, einem jungen Hund zu erlauben, frei im Haus herumzulaufen, wenn ich nicht da sein kann, um ihn zu beschützen.

      We put it in about 9 years ago, because I couldn't keep a nice grass lawn with all the wear and tear from the dogs. It cost a small fortune, but it has been more than worth it. No maintenance, always looks good, excellent drainage, and the poops are easy to pick up.

      Not at all. I don't know what your experience is, but I have 40 years with dogs, and I know what they like. They are pack animals, and they feel comfortable and safe in a den-like environment. Please don't criticize unless you have experience and facts to back up your opinions.
