Continuously? Make sure you use it whenever you're about to hit record. Do the shots, turn off and prepare next shot. This week I had a 2 day shoot. Shot 20 minutes in total of b-roll of which half of it would've needed AF. Of course every use case is different.. but for most work you easily get away with 2.5 hours. Ordered the creator combo with extra battery grip tho.
Hey man, Just passing by to say that I'm so happy you're still around. I started following you a few years ago, but for some reason, your videos rarely show up in my feed. I'm not a video maker-pure photography and tech topics are my thing-but I would like to try creating a RUclips channel one day. The way you create your content is amazing, and it breaks my heart to see you not yet over 100K followers while other boring channels skyrocket. I hope you stay steady and consistent because you truly deserve proper recognition. The videos you make that I love the most are those that are provocative, ignite deep thinking or criticism, and have the perfect balance of humor. I really wish you to continue despite the slow progress, and like many others, I'll be very proud to see your channel reach where it should be. Thanks for your patience-many would have given up already-and thank you for sharing these videos that always bring something fresh to the audience.
Thanks brother, this is the nicest thing anybody has said to me on RUclips! My consistency is my biggest battle, coz when you’re in the middle of making movies there’s no time to also make RUclips. But I take this comment to heart ❤️ 🫡🙏
Had similar issue. Thought I had not seen any fresh contend for a while, only to click on and realise I had missed a load of videos. If you click on the bell icon and change the notification setting to "all" it should solve the issue. I never really understood why the youtubes algorithm appears to not recommend Guys content. It's way more informative and far far farrrrr better produced than most of the garbage that tends to be recommended.
Thanks for an interesting and personal take on the system, not just a "review" per se. You've mentioned a dolly shot with Focus Pro - I think it's one of those things that are reeeeally hard to do manually, especially without a dedicated focus puller. And even with. You can usually pull a person running towards/from the camera in a few takes, etc, if the camera is not moving. But add another variable with a dolly or a gimbal in there and it becomes incredibly hard! The point is, in a situation where a good autofocus truly helps - it helps A LOT.
I've been using their Lidar for a while now, just with the gimbal (well, once you set it up with the gimbal you can get autofocus without it as well). It's very useful for my run and gun setups. This new package makes everything simpler.
Hello! I read the comments above asking if we can use the focus pro with photo lenses. And you answered yes because there is the focus gear strap we can apply to them. My concern is that photo lenses do not have hard stops. Is there a way to manually set point an and b? Or this is not a problem? And also the cinema lenses have linear focus rings compared to the distance, while a photo lens doesn’t. How is it going to know how many degrees to rotate the focus ring? Have you used it with photo lens and blackmagic? Or have you seen anywhere that by DJI? Because I use bmpcc6k with sigma 18-35 and this thing will be huge!! Thank you in advance!
DJI's LiDAR focus is a fantastic and invaluable tool for filmmakers, offering precise and efficient focusing capabilities that elevate the quality of their work. However, despite its impressive features, the product has been frustratingly difficult to purchase. I've been waiting for three months without any success. It's perplexing why DJI would announce such an innovative product without ensuring its availability to eager customers.
Okay love your mounting for this. Have similar smallrig handle but when you say monitor mount for lidar, are you adding a cold shoe to the mount? Curious how it's attached as I can't make it out in video.
@@thesavagefilmmaker stupid me never bothered to look at bottom of cold shoe mount and saw the 1/4 threads 🙄 got mine currently set up now same way! So working fairly well. Ideally looking to make a bottom rail adapter for lidar unit to put below lens at front. Ideally trying to make a set and stable setup for system to go from gimbal to handheld and back without having to move anything around. This however is working quite nicely so far until I can make a below mounting plate (which may or may not work 🤷)
I tried the pdmovie lidar smart 3 (also lidar based system) with a bit of oil based haze (thinner) and it worked …. Not sure how much haze you meant when you said “liberal” amounts of haze …. 😊. I work a lot with thin haze so the system would be useless to me if it cannot focus with haze. Thanks.
I have a Sigma fp. Beautiful camera and wonderful colour science, but notoriously poor at any auto focus. Do you know whether this system can work with zoom lenses, or only primes? I can’t seem to get an answer. Maybe you have some thoughts.
No it takes longer, but the whole point is AF lens don’t provide you the same look and quality that cinema lenses do. Therefore using AF lenses will always give you the same generic digital look. Sometimes you get a better result by taking your time.
@@thesavagefilmmaker Sorry to bug you with this, I truly appreciate your answer......however, in order to connect the Lidar to my GH4, would I need to have an adapter for the USB C cable to a USB micro?

There’s no point doing a video about this. There’s no product to buy. Nobody has it. DGI has no idea when they’re going to put it in production. Just a bunch of hype about something that you can’t even purchase.
So how did I purchase one? Clearly they do exist, DJI doesn't sponsor me. However why talk about something that is currently out of stock....because it will come back in stock. It's not sold out indefinitely, in the mean time those interested can consider its features and decide if it's worth purchasing.... when it's back in stock.... which it will be. Weird criticism.
The Focus Pro's battery life was measured at 25°C for about 2.5 hours, and I feel like I'll be using it for longer than that.
Waaaay longer. And I’m not sure that measurement is accurate. It hasn’t lasted that long for me in my tests.

Dude I've ruined so many dolly shots missing focus at the end of the dolly or lost focus too obviously in the middle of the dolly. Not with this guy!

Great for me, as I rarely use a gimbal, but love this new Lidar tech.
For a person that has primes and anamorphic lenses a bmpcc4k gh6 its a must

Yes you can set A and B points, but I haven't tried this method, so I can't 100% confirm that it would work effectively with say the Sigma.

I don't think they were quite ready for the demand, I was very fortunate to get my pre-order in when I did.
Just got mine online last night just got it today
Can you mount the focus pro grip as a second handle for any gimbal?
If you have something you can attach a nato clamp to, the focus pro grip attaches via nato.
They been soldout around the world or pre order but by so.e stroke of luck i got one off dji
There's certainly a reason it's sold out!
Interesting. As it's lidar am I correct in thinking it would still track regardless of lighting conditions?
It so far has done well in low light.
Okay love your mounting for this. Have similar smallrig handle but when you say monitor mount for lidar, are you adding a cold shoe to the mount? Curious how it's attached as I can't make it out in video.
I'm adding a Nato clamp to Monitor mount to the front of the Top handle and then mounting the Lidar on top of that monitor mount.

Recent shoot, with just general haze in the air between subject and camera it would not focus correctly. But I have not done more extensive testing.
Thanks for your answer
Well now I want a DJI Focus Pro. They'd better pay you!
Haha, I wish!

If you put cinegears on your zoom lenses, then they should work. But lenses with hard stops at infinity are better suited for it.
Thanks. Good advice
can you change lenses as fast as without lidar? if not its better to use only a mirrorless camera with pdaf+AF lenses.
No it takes longer, but the whole point is AF lens don’t provide you the same look and quality that cinema lenses do. Therefore using AF lenses will always give you the same generic digital look. Sometimes you get a better result by taking your time.

Yes. Any cam with cinema geared lenses.

Can I put my autofocus lens in MF mode and use it with LIDAR or it must be manual lens?
If you put cinema gears on your auto focus lens then theoretically yes you could.

so not any lenses but ONLY CINE/MANUAL LENSES
No, they can be any lens with cine gears, and you can put cine gears on almost any lens.
