- This is the old recording made live during my first "adult" competition in Tbilisi in 2004, where I was the youngest participant in the only age category 16-32 years. In this another video about competitions I share my crazy experience at this competition: • A Concert Pianist Reve...

Such a masterpiece! One of my favourite works of all time for piano! ❤
Same for me! It is so famous the orchestration of Ravel, but I do prefer the ordiginal piano version.
@@HattoriHanzo62 couldn't agree more! I just noticed that this year marks the 150th anniversary of the piece! 🎉
Hm this is the first time I ever heard the piece past the famous melody.
Can't say I like all of it, but definitely some great parts and of course superbly played, very impressive
A great artist that needs to be heard more often.
So talented you r...
That's amazing ! I like your playing more and more , you make this piece so much richer and vivid, and your technique is also amazing , so clear and almost perfect . You're a master for me as well. Bravo 👏
Thank you very much!
I adore this piece! Such a vivid imagery and poetry. Your superb performance clearly reminds us mortals that great pianists have a fully established technical ability and musical sensibility by age 13. Thank you for this painful lesson… just kidding; half kidding!
When I was 16, Barry Douglas won the Tchaikovsky Competition with his performance of this sealing the deal, I believe. I just remember music critics raving about it. I also found out he went to the gym to train his arms and upper body, which was unheard of at the time. I believe the understanding of the mechanics of playing the piano changed a lot since then.
Did your growing up as a Ukrainian bring you closer to the soundscape of this suite? I just came across Lili Kraus’ performance of Romanian Folk Dance by Bartok and was mesmerized by the unique rhythmic sways and melancholy tone. Cultural heritage must affect the execution. I was surprised as I had only known her from her Mozart Sonatas. She was half Romanian!
Oops… half Hungarian. I wonder where the borders were back in the day.
Thanks for a great feedback and interesting thoughts.
Yes I think that the culture shapes us in a certain way. It was so much more natural for me to play slavic music as a teen, especially something “big” and straightforward. Such music is good for competition because it’s impressive, and there is less ambiguity and difference in tastes than in Mozart or let’s say Chopin Preludes.
Quite wonderful playing; the bravado required for a work on this scale.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing
A course in this would be wonderful ❤
You're so talented! And very handsome as well!
Beautiful. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this

@@DenZhdanovPianistwow fantastic!
Couldn’t imagine myself playing this (I am 16 currently and learning Chopins 3rd Ballade…)
But Prokofiev is one of my favorites, I really want to get into his music. Hopefully in the future!
Go for it!👍💪
