I installed the Carven on my ‘21 Sport. Wow, what a difference. I also installed a S&B cold air intake at the same time. Actually picked up 3 mpg. The sound is awesome . My butt dyno tells me an increase in torque too.
I dig it. Carven probably has the best sounding option for the Tacoma I've heard outside of the TRD exhaust. If my TRD exhaust ever needed replacing I would look at Carven
I like the sound of the Carven. I did have the Flowmaster Outlaw Extreme. It was so loud I ended up taking it off in a year. I couldn’t hear my radio or the person talking next to me. The outlaw sounds like a Race Rally Tacoma. It definitely woke the neighbors on a cold start and in overdrive. So I’m just buying the muffler from Carven and having it installed in place of my stock.
Have an Overland Tailor Tune installed on your Tacoma 3.5 and you’ll have all of your torque begins at 2K RPM and continues until redline. This also STOPS your Tacoma from hunting for gears in your 6spd auto transmission. I’ve also noticed a 2mpg increase in my fuel efficiency. I immediately added a K&N intake to my 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road and I’ve been looking for an awesome sounding exhaust. I’m an old duffer but I still enjoy that guttural growl from an engine. I’ll definitely be adding the Carven to my Tacoma.
You can get the stock exhaust off on a TRD O/R without taking the spare off. You can do it on flat ground with a little work, or you can park the left rear wheel on a curb and it will open up the space you need to pull it out. The Carven is small so its a nonfactor.
I have this exhaust on my 22 Tacoma. There are times I like it and other times I don't. Worst is when cruising highway with cruise control on and even the slightest hill truck downshifts and exhaust just gets annoying, which on a longer trip happens multiple times. Then in town cruising around its not too bad and I like the little burbles you get when downshifting. I'm at the point of possibly reinstalling the stock exhaust. I kept it just in case I wanted to switch back.
Same reasons why my dad doesn’t want to install an exhaust on his 17 Tacoma, he already went through all of that with his previous truck and reinstalled the stock system on it, got tired of the drone.
@@STILLNIGHTPEARL I don’t blame him. I actually reinstalled my stock exhaust this past week. I was over it. I enjoy the quiet now. Just not a fan of it for my daily driver. Now I just have to sell the Carven and get some of my money back haha.
@@goldenflash0588 yeah man, I mean they sell the quiet exhaust systems, but those literally sound like stock, what’s the point right? I’m sure you’ll get most of your money back since that system is popular, and at the end of the day if people can save some money, they’ll buy used over new.
I had the same issue it’s cool driving in the city but when your on the highway it’s annoying I had the same issue driving on the freeway long distance so I went back to stock
I just put my stock exhaust on after running a flowmaster flow fx for a year. I forgot how nice it is to not have to talk over my exhaust/ listen to music over the drone.
I love my carven! I will say when you axle dump it, the drone is a bit worse with the sound reflecting off the ground so if you can I’d definitely recommend only doing axle dump when you go off-roading. If you you’re someone reading this with a 6mt Tacoma hearing it bang limiter is amazing too lol. With the factory 4.30s and being on 33s rpm’s in 6th at 70 are about 26/2700 and it’s a little bit droney but my tires are definitely louder. I get compliments all the time about the sound which is not normal having a V6. Definitely the best exhaust for the Tacoma out there!
I saved my pennies for months and went wild with Black Friday sales so I’m tapped out for awhile. Adding this to the never ending list,. Looking forward to more.
We have a flowmaster flowfx on our 4Runner Drones at 2k+ and once it finds a good gear, it’s pretty quiet Even when decelerating, zero noise after a short little burble noise When we gun it though… it’s a different animal. I also added a simple k&n filter, it pulls harder now with the exhaust I can only imagine how much harder it will pull with a full CAI
I owned 2 new trucks 1 was an 09 tacoma, and a 2010 rock warrior with the 5.7 your exhaust on the tacoma sounds great cold start.. I struggled with the tundra finding an exhuast to replicate an american v8 note. The Nissan titan v8 sounds sick .. point to this was u said the tacoma exhaust sounds like the tundra and I was like whatttt. Then I see u have the new v6 tundra..
Is this the carven TR, installed the Gibson on my 4.7 V8 4Runner but having problems with axle pipe vibrating on rear axle and exhaust tip hits rear trailer hitch. Considering carven R exhaust as replacement, Gibson too quiet.
I am sorry if I missed it in the video, but this seals the deal on which exhaust I liked. When purchasing it on the website, you chose the short bed right ( if I am not mistaken, my SR5 bed looks the same as yours in this video). Once again, sorry for a silly question, just want to make sure.
Any change in your mpg or low end torque? Not sure if its placebo since I hear it more but mine seems to lag a bit more on the low end and my mpgs dropped. Could be im hitting the accelerator more now that I can hear it lol
How would does this sound for a Tacoma with a 4 cylinder 2.7l ? I don’t want it to be annoyingly loud. And if I had to choose between this and the Afe what would be better ?
I wonder how it would sound if you had a slight cone shape to the exhaust end, might take some of the drone sound away which sounds a bit irritating (for long periods). I owned 2 Honda CBX 1050 6 cylinder motorcycles, one new and stock which had the stock exhaust and the other was modified which had a modified exhaust (6 into 2), sounded amazing, it was cone shaped along the pipes to the end and it gave off a real nice smooth f1 sound to it. It seems the cone shape design changes the sound to more of a quieter sound at idle but revved up, it sounded like an F1 (for a lack of a better word). The new exhaust is a bit noisy at lower rpms Jon but a nice design for sure (my personal views). I noticed that wiring harness on the rear end, do you think that might be a bit close to that exhaust? Sorry Jon, I'm a fuss bug at heart and on my own vehicles when I work on them, hehe. Thanks for the update and a nice exhaust design for sure. :)
Always thanks for you input too!! The tip is a 4” tip so a bit bigger than the piping too. The smaller muffler is bold and loud for sure compared to other tame exhaust. But Carven definitely prides themselves on being loud, bold, and different.
@@TRDJon Thanks for the reply Jon, well they get an A+ for Bold and Loud for sure, hehe, doesn't hurt to experiment a bit though to strive for perfection or give different sound level options, I don't know anything about Carven only from what you stated here, take care. :)
I can't really tell if it sounds like a bumblebee🐝 like Rob Motive's does ? it is nearly impossible to get any sound out of a V6.. It seems the quieter they are the better. A V6 is just a generic imbalance..
Nice sound from the exhaust. You might want to get a shift controller that you can plug into your OBD2 port. I’ve found it lowers the RPM’s from stock, improves shift points and can gain 1-2 MPG’s at highway speeds. By reducing RPM’s will also reduce the drone at highway speeds.
@@TRDJon Stock gearing has you go at least 72 before it shifts to 6th. You can leave it in stock mode or go to the 3 modes available. I still have stock tire sizes. Also improves off the line acceleration as stock starts in 2nd gear.
@@mauropotiguar its not the factory air box that does that. Most factory intakes have extra chambers inline off the intake pipe. Those chambers are what kill the sound. If you just swap out the pipe from the factory box to the throttle body you will get your growl.
