    I have a 2001 ranger needing this replacement. I heard ford made the 2001-2004 2.3l rangers with a “heated” thermostat. I heard if you buy just a regular replacement your check engine code won’t go off.
    Is this one heated? I see some on Amazon but don’t know which one to buy

    Thanks for the video! Going to be replacing mine on my 01' 2.3L. I noticed that when I drive it will be at around 210 degrees... then for whatever reason it will drop down to a temp of about 170 .. I believe this is the thermostat failing in the OPEN position? But it will do this several times when driving lately during the course of a 1 hour drive... I will note that there are zero codes pulling displayed and when I used FORScan to scan everything no errors pop up...

    • @motorhead883_8
      @motorhead883_8  6 лет назад +1

      NewShockerGuy when the truck is hot do you hear the fan? If not then turn the truck off and then go and try and spin the fan by hand there should be a little resistance. If there is none then you fan clutch is probably bad as well. I have a video on that. But if you said it gets to about 210 degrees then the thermostat is probably staying mostly closed. Check out my other video on the fan clutch and you will see what in talking about. Any other question leave a comment and ill help as much as i can.

    • @svoncampe
      @svoncampe 3 года назад

      @@motorhead883_8 Good video. Thanks. I have a '96 B2300 and the only time I experience any heating issues is in the dead of summer when it's hotter than 90-92 degrees outside. Only then will the temp needle either get really close to or actually reach the red prompting the warning light to come on. Running the a/c makes it obviously worse as does city driving vs highway, but if temps exceed 94 degrees even highway driving will not prevent overheating. So for about two months out of the year I have to be careful; all other times the engine never overheats. I am wondering if perhaps I need to replace the thermostat, but why is it an issue only when the ambient temp is greater than 90 degrees? Maybe I need a new radiator? The fan works, but I have heard it is underpowered. Not sure what the issue is but I'll probably start with swapping out the thermostat and see what happens.

    • @motorhead883_8
      @motorhead883_8  3 года назад

      @@svoncampe maybe someone used a seal stopper and it clogged the radiator. I would do a flush, i dont think the thermostat is bad because if it is then it’s probably in the closed position and would overheat no mater what. When the truck is cold spin the fan by hand and see if it has resistance

    • @svoncampe
      @svoncampe 3 года назад

      @@motorhead883_8 Thanks for the response. I had the radiator flushed not long after buying the truck last year and I know nothing other than water and coolant was used. I know the fan spins but I’ll do as you suggest. I appreciate the help though!

But now that I've changed the thermostat, it's still blowing cold air? I drove it around for about 15 minutes, with no change, it's still blowing cold air? Could it be electrical? Thanks in advance.

    • @motorhead883_8
      @motorhead883_8  4 года назад

      @@ralphstyron1280 your heater core can be clogged, also look on the passenger side of the engine bay. There should be two hoses going into the fire wall. They should be attached to two pieces of plastic. If they are not and they are attached to each other then someone bypassed the heater core, more then likely because it was leaking. Also if everything looks fine, christ fix has a video on how to flush your heater core. It's a great video. If everything is good then rent a coolant system vacuum fill. It will eliminate the possibility of having air in the coolant system. Let me know if you find the problem please.

    • @ralphstyron1280
      @ralphstyron1280 4 года назад

      Truck was running fine, even started blowing hot air. Fixed, right? Nope. It started overheating again, in fact it was boiling! Totally baffled. I'll have to take it to a shop at this point. I just don't get it. I put a thermostat in it that should lock open if it locks at all, just to prevent overheating, and it's blowing cold air- again. Fml
