I am certain my kids would not ever let this happen, but I want this one to be played at my funeral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not joking but I want smiley faces there and this one is guaranteed to make everyone smile. I can't believe that thee were over 400 people who are so immersed in the daily little messes they call their lives that they would vote thumbs down on this. THey need help.
The people who gave Thumbs down to this track are musically unscheduled. They cannot follow by ear the individual instrumental parts, unable to appreciate the skill of improvisation, impromptu harmony and the need of a Toute Ensemble to bring a climax . Rhythm means nothing to them. Thank goodness I'm 91 and lived through a golden age of Jazz Swing and Big Bands. As for this performance, pitch perfect to meet your Maker! End the funeral with a gig!
Tuesday evenings at the Union Hall, Union Street, Barnet was the place to be in the 1950's - cost 50p to get in to hear the best of Trad Jazz - Chris Barber - Ottile Patterson, Johnny Dankworth, Kenny Barber, Alex Welsh, Mick Mulligan, the list was endless.
Unvergessliche Zeiten. Er war und bleibt ein Juwel = Klenot.
I’ll regret to my dying day never getting to see/hear this marvelous group in person. I also regret not having the chance to express to Chris and his musicians my unending love for their musicianship. Great music from Great Britain.
Hi , you are so correct in saying the younger generation do not know how to listen to music, among other things they choose to put on the deaf ear , listening is in the key of education and vital to be able to learn anything. Not being able to listen is one thing but choosing not to listen breeds nothing but idiots
What a wonderful sound, all their instruments all laid to rest now, weren’t they great. Thankyou u tube for letting us see great musicians at their best and may they all Rest In Peace. Jesus will be tapping his feet you can be sure of that. ❤
What a wonderful legacy you have left us . I saw your band when in England in 1962. My wife and I will always love listening to your music. Thank you . Ian and Shirley
saw Chris Barber and his band at the 100 Club in the mid 80's. Was walking past one afternoon, heard them playing and just went in. Was a wonderful, impromptu couple of hours.
I'm too young to remember Monty Sunshine, but I saw Ian Wheeler play with Chris Barber many times and, to me, his playing was just so deeply musical. A clarinet god as far as I'm concerned.
Why have rock when there's this and other wonderful music? I've been waiting 60 years for rock and all of its offshoots to die out as most music styles have. But no, it looks like I'll die first. Love this stuff. I once owned a superb trumpet. I played trumpet but I wasn't a trumpet player. There is a difference.
A great band, and always was. Amazing rendition of 'Greater Walk' driven by the bass of Vic Pitt. Do others think, like me, Vic is the best non-African American bassist of all time?
Sad that we have not only lost Chris in 2021, but also Vic Pitt. Got to know all members of the band in 2000 when they visited NZ in 2000 then the addition of Bob Hunt, Mike Henry etc. Fantastic music and what a great legacy for us to enjoy forever.
What a tuneful medley! The clarinet man is my man> All blend so well. In deed the greatest swing ever. How come Chris Barber has hung in there for say seven decades! God bless him. The celloist is marvellous too.
Takes me back many years . We used to spend Sunday Nights at Greenfield Jazz Club and saw some of the best Trad Jazz in those days . Music is a great gift . Ability to entertain millions is something we need to see more of and less hate .
Dixieland in seiner schönsten Form! Seit ich "Theorie is Wartung for the Sunrise" von Chris Barber hörte, bin ich ein Fan der Musik und von Chris Barber. Danke.
No matter were you go, just a closer walk with Thee, is magnificent beautiful inside and out...Jesus Makes the song Best of all music. Could listen forever. I can imagine the day, face to Face with my Lord in Glory.
My dad took me to see Chris Barber's band several times when I was a wee lad. How lucky was I! Have always loved Ian Wheeler's playing. A wonderful, wonderful clarinetist.
Magnifique Monsieur Barber and RIP Ian Wheeler mon clarinettiste préféré, tellement talentueux.
I am certain my kids would not ever let this happen, but I want this one to be played at my funeral!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mir geht es genau so.

The Chris Barber Band, with singer Ottilie Patterson, were regular visitors to the City Hall, Newcastle, in the late 1950s and early 60s. Happy days!

Ich bin glücklich so was zu hören!

You all gave us such joy with your playing. All gone now and I bet Jesus I’ll be enjoying this. ❤
It dosn't get any better than this - they [sadly] don't make jazz like this anymore

This band got me into jazz.. trumpet.. when I first heard them at the Wood Green jazz Club in 1954. Everlasting gratitude.
Das war die beste Band!!

I listen to this music whenever I can it's wonderful I guess they play it up in heaven to charm the Angels ??
Thank God we were there to enjoy brilliance in the making. Great great music.😊
I’ll regret to my dying day never getting to see/hear this marvelous group in person. I also regret not having the chance to express to Chris and his musicians my unending love for their musicianship. Great music from Great Britain.

I my opinion it is the best, thanks for sharing
The young generation do not know what music sounds like.
Hi , you are so correct in saying the younger generation do not know how to listen to music, among other things they choose to put on the deaf ear , listening is in the key of education and vital to be able to learn anything. I definitely want this song played at my funeral .
Before I listened to this, my mood was somewhat ambivalent. I am now both jubilant and exultant. A thousand thanks.
I had the recording of Whistling Rufus, with Petite Fleur on the other side, Whistling Rufus had the same effect on me.
Lay off the haggis for far less ambivalence - on one side anyway. Can’t guarantee both sides
What a wonderful legacy you have left us . I saw your band when in England in 1962. My wife and I will always love listening to your music. Thank you . Ian and Shirley
Came here to see who Chris Barber was and man am I amazed and captivated. Beautiful music and beat. RIP
Thought you were going to get yourself a decent haircut did you?
Toujours aussi excellent ! Bravo. 🎺
Der legendäre Sound von Chris Barber……. Unbeschreiblich gut. Keine Party ohne Chris…❤
Saw Chris at the Festival Hall Kirkby in Ashfield ; as fresh today as it was then ; going back ; good times ❤

I was a lucky person I was able to see Chris in the 1959 s and have some lps

So refreshing, so foot tapping good.

These disciples of Dixieland are good credit to it. Their take is marvelous .Baltimore,MD
Chris is tops, what a band and that Clarinette player is something else....absolutely fantastic.
The clarinet player is Ian Wheeler.

At 84, it is great to listen, brings back memories when I played the frensh horn
Dixieland in seiner schönsten Form! Seit ich "Theorie is Wartung for the Sunrise" von Chris Barber hörte, bin ich ein Fan der Musik und von Chris Barber. Danke.
+Claus D. Freymann "Theorie is Wartung for the Sunrise"???
Sorry, es heißt natürlich "The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise" ...
Dieksiland wiecznie żywy danke
Definitely the best version of "A closed walk with Thee"!
Thanks a lot Mr Barber. RIP.
Dixiland,Jazzband,swing,rytmus,melodie to je paráda!

Tolle Musik , macht so richtig wach,!!!!
excellent compilation, thank you again and again!
Fantastic! I have loved CB since I was young in early fifties! I remember Ottilie Patterson singing with him, also Lonnie Donegan. I must be old!
Jim Crawford yes at the 100 club
Well I must be old too!
Made me buy an old Boosey and Hawkes clarinet! 40 years later have returned to playing.
What a show, wow!!!!
No matter were you go, just a closer walk with Thee, is magnificent beautiful inside and out...Jesus Makes the song Best of all music. Could listen forever. I can imagine the day, face to Face with my Lord in Glory.

Magnifique Monsieur Barber and RIP Ian Wheeler mon clarinettiste préféré, tellement talentueux.
In case you hadn't noticed these guys are no youngsters...but they still have the chops...
WOW. Walking with Jesus never gets old
As an old Dixie trombonist from way back I love this stuff, trombone lead thanks Chris and RUclips.
The greatest Jazz Band ever.
