Unreal content the last few months. You guys have hit your stride and are truly the leader in the Golf Equipment RUclips space. I love the level of detail and "in the weeds" information provided. Really excited for release season in 2024.
I have a Graphite Design in every wood/hybrid in my bag. They just perform. XC-5 in my TSI3 10*, TP-6 in my TSR2 15* (absolute monster for a 3-wood), HD-7 in my TSR1 7-wood, and a DI-85 in my TSI2 23* hybrid. Love every single one of them.
The vf is my first ever Graphite design shaft. I’ve played/tried virtually almost every thing else. I swing driver about 105 and went with 6x as everyone always says GD stuff plays a little softer. This shafts is perfect for me. The feels is unbelievable for a shaft that is low spin
I did the same, I hover around 105-110 swing speed, and went 6x as well. I can still feel a bit of loading of the shaft in the transition, and it doesn't feel as stout as I expected for an x flex at first. I love my decision so far. I used to have an r flex driver shaft as I got my Tsi2 prev year still in the plastic, but the lag of the softer shaft would cause me to hit hard to control fades. I now hit it dead straight or maybe a touch of a straight pull, so have switched my driver to the slightly flat setting to re-introduce a slight fade bias, that is miles more controllable now.
@@DrDaveYThmm im right at that 105-110 range also… would you say you have a smooth transition or a aggressive one. Currently using a ad di 6s n it feels wobbly at times
I have recently moved to all Graphite Design shafts in my bag setup. Have never been happier with the consistency and ball flight. Not as stout as this shaft, but they are high quality and results.
Thanks guys, I paused video after his 3rd swing, wow what a difference in swings I'm seeing, haven't watched you or any golf shows I'm a long time, many injuries, anyway the last time I've watched you swing a driver was over a year ago, your swing now compared to idk over a year ago, much more Athletic, and powerful and free, not mechanical at all, good for you, let it rip, sorry had to make this comment, it caught my eye immediately! Great job, keep it going!
Crazy to get this confirmation years later for me. In my 3 and 5 woods manufacturers suggests Xstiff for my swing speed, same with my driver. I bought X Flex for them all but ended up swapping them out for the Stiff flex and gaining speed, distance, and little more spin which I needed. Thought something was wrong with my understanding of my shafts.. Great video.
I love Graphite Design product. I have the UB 6TX in my 10* TSR4 and the DI 85x in my 3 hybrid and love them. Got to try out a TSR3 16.5 with the DI 7x in it not long ago and loved it. Seriously considering replacing my aging 2017 M1 3HL with that same setup.
I have very similar swing numbers and this video makes me think a lot. My X has been a dispersion killer, but that extra pop I can probably get from loading a S shaft is very desirable
When you’re breathing hard after hitting the X you know you’re having to work a little too hard. Nice test. The face adjustment was very interesting - more on that topic would be great.
I rememebr gong to CC and always saying "did you see the videos from TGX". Hope it was a profitable move! Love it. Ordered a VF5S to test against VC Blue 6S.
Off topic but my 2 cents on the ball rollback announcement.... I am 100% against the rollback because the only reason is to limit male tour pros. There's no need to cut distance for everybody. The overwhelming majority is against it. The better solution would have been to limit driver head size and implement new rules for driver face COR. My idea for the COR, is to lower the max COR outside of 5mm from the center of the club face. Today's drivers are way too forgiving on mishits for tour pros. Yes, tour pros button the sweet spot consistently, but they are by no means perfect. This will still allow guys to bomb it but there's greater punishment for bad swings. Today's level of forgiveness and head stability allows tour pros to go max effort with minimal risk. Just from a physics perspective, reducing head size will reduce MOI, and a positive consequence of this is that drivers will regain workability and the art of shot-shaping will likely return. Currently, drivers built for tour pros are built with one shot shape in mind depending on the player. Rahm, DJ, Morikawa and Homa (to name a few) only hit fades and put zero effort into working a draw with driver. Their drivers are built to be low-mid spin fade machines. In this video, Ian hit a few clunkers and the ball still is in the fairway and only 5-10 yards shorter than a well-struck shot. If the golf world needs to make things tougher for pros, just make rules for the driver to less forgiving.
No surprise on the extra length with the S. More and more long drive competitors are using really flexible shafts. In fact, just saw a video the other day with Martin Borgmeier where his on course, non long drive driver is a stiff flex shaft. Quite interesting.
The impressive factor to me is the impact dispersion. Says a lot about GDI flex profile consistency. I’m curious why you didn’t tip the S 1/2”? Would likely deliver tip stability of the X while also delivering the flex/feel in midsection of the S to aid timing and speed we saw. Seems like that would’ve been best of both worlds, no? Maybe supply chain for this shaft is so scarce you didn’t want to potentially send this shaft to scrapper, especially knowing it’s Mikey’s gamer?
Thumbs up for sharing data on the AD VF golf shaft. Thumbs down for all the Woods spewage . I tried the shaft in a driver back in January and liked the feel and performance it provided in my testing. Thumbs up to Graphite Design on another nice shaft creation.
Opening up a great topic, you skimmed the surface on trying to get the 5S to straighten out. Could you delve in deeper and figure out how to get the 5 S to work? I face the same issue, softer shaft leads to pushes and fades but I like the faster club head speed Be it a club fit solution or even swing tweak. Maybe Tyler Mcghie can chime in on this!
I have 3 clubs with the Graphite Design shafts in them and all 3 have been incredible, might be looking at pricing out a shaft in my 3 wood soon...its just so good.
Good job guys! Thanks! Now I have to try a new shaft after playing Mitsubishi ck pro orange for years in my Driver, 3 wood, and 3 hybrid. Well, it is Christmas time 😂
Played IZ for years in driver and stupidly got rid of it because I thought I liked Ventus Red better. Still have the IZ85 in my hybrids. If this is anything like his old DI it'll be a hit.
It is really more move dependent... The more handsy you are or the more you release the club the stiffer shaft will always feel better but if you hold off that said release then then softer shaft will feel better... I live at 115MPH SS and play an X flex but I prefer to find a stiff that can hold my speed so I can feel it flex and the shaft release for an example...
Wow, I'm currently in Ventus Black 6x. Thought going straight into VF 5X was the call for more speed. Now VF 5S may be the better option. Back to Club Champion for more testing...
Awesome test fella’s. I’m going to get me a 6x. I typically play 7x shafts in Ventus, I like the weight to slow me down a bit and help with accuracy. Sounds like these shafts “feel” heavier, going with the 6x.
Wow!! Nicely done Ian!! What would you recommend for an old guy with a 100++ swing speed? I have a DI 6 SR which is lovely. I’m thinking a 5 R?? in the VF. Smooth loader, late release, parallel at top of back swing.
Do you think that using a different combo shaft, head, loft etc can actually gain back the distance that the golf ball roll back will bring? Also will the rollback golf ball actually benefit some golfers with actually more distance than the current ones now?
just finished this vid the S when it was neutralized was sick if Ian only needs 285+ off the tee let him hit his three wood that shaft was money the carry was insane IN THE BAG Cheers from Norcal
Currently playing Tour AD GP series (6S in Driver, 7S in 3 wood), how does this compare? Seems to have similar flex profile. Is this replacing the GP? As it is no longer on their comparison charts.
