Where's all the p38 guys at??
Swapping my eas valve block for the 3rd time this month....
🤣
They’re better than their reputation. I daily mine.
You are being too kind in your description of the “p38 enthusiast”. I make zero excuses for my or others behavior. We are bloody masochists, and we love every minute of it.
You are spot on with your review of the P38, you get the rock solid, confident driving experience of a classic d1/2 or defender but with a significant level of refinement from the p38. However, unlike the d1 or defender, The P38 still feels modern, has the power to keep up with todays traffic and very usable every day.
My FIRST CAR was an 02 Range with 200k. Daily drove it all the way up until it had 250k. It had just about every issue you can think of, except the EAS! Drove it to 32 states, I miss it every day.
I will always want one.
I will never own one.
I own several LandCruisers and my neighbor owns several LandRovers.
We love wrenching, so I am very often over at his place working on his.
I love how they feel - when they run. The interiors feel stately.
But he’s been left stranded so many times, and it seems he’s constantly cycling through them because they seem to need major work.
@@ark-transport9626 land cruisers are boring. Dont live a boring life.
These vehicles are so underrated in the community I'm on my 3rd and all have been great all have had issues but nothing that wasn't easily resolved.
Just found your channel. As a Land Rover fanatic I love your videos 👍
Intrigued by the P38… scared away by the tiny safari style shorts! 😅 These are cool but flawed vehicles but respect the effort to keep them alive in the public’s mind. As a long suffering RRC owner I know the addiction is real.
@@craigmclaughlin7870 Gotta safari.
Many thanks for the great review!
Was an interesting test to see how long thru before I reached for the comments :)
I know I must fall into the addict category but my wife definitely isn't. The look she gave after being in our D1 on springs vs P38 on airbags indicated it's much more than just a maintenance item to deal with.
After they have been castrated they lose the (sometimes vain but nonetheless) useful benefit of raising to deal with ruts or in town, big kerbs etc is I think an intrinsic part of a P38.
Also the 4.0 has its charms. Revs a little cleaner and tho a little lacking in torque, I think it a more pleasant 'pressing-on' driving experience.
Speaking of that, what absolutely transforms the on-road driving experience is replacing the often too wide 255 or 265 width tyres with 235s. Wider tyres really seem to suck power and reduce handling feel. My 2c :)
Obviously a P38 tragic 😅
Most of my rovers run 235s
Hi Troy, This Danny with the OffRoad P38 that you know. I love this video and it's very accurate to P38 owners
@@dannymezher1016 hey man! Are you coming next weekend?
@@AddictedMotors I'll be there yes with a couple P38's.lol
Pending sale!
I've always loved them that's wild that the guy spent $8000 in service die hard Range Rover
I’m at 90k now
8k is actually not that bad. Also p38 enthusiasts generally don’t care about sensible things like good financial decisions….
Great video! I’ve been fixing up a Borrego edition and you nailed it with the ownership experience. These trucks are so underrated!
I’d deal with a GEMS p38. Those can be neat trucks. Everyone in a while in Australia / New Zealand you’ll see a manual diesel with cloth seats which are cool. The holy grail is one of the very few manual trans 4.0 gasoline trucks with non digital standard climate control. I saw one in Spain a while back. If you could somehow do a nervous system transplant with a gems d1 it’d simplify it to the point of being usable. Get rid of that becm and all the alarm crap. They are beautiful and they still have normal axles.
Like your car taste 😃 Range Rovers, G wagon, XC90. 😃👌🏻👍
What’s been done to tack up the headliner? A reasonable approach methinks.
Went to see one yesterday, with a view to buying and getting it renovating. It was a total dog. The search continues.
I have a P38 4.6 HSE Bosch. It’s a cool car. Is it sensible, no. But it runs and I have a dealer trained mechanic to maintain it.
