She shows us a LOT more than that. She is what every one of the villains feared: She is a bending tyrant, she destroys the sacred spiritual aspects of the world, she is a fascist who enslaved a nation and allows for no freedom… And beyond that she teaches us about how fascist dictatorships work: The rhetoric and propaganda used, the militarism “might is right “mentality, obsession with “law and order” as an excuse to strip all freedoms and liberties from people, economic control to the point that a few wealthy industrialists have a whole nation working as slaves for their benefit and the only way out of slavery is to join the military cause, the systemic persecution of ethnic minorities, (the guy from the prison camp mentioned the persecution in case you dont remember) and the infinite expansionism that would have led to her needing to conquer the world, crush the nations who would try to intervene, to maintain the empire. And the show even made her giant cannon tank thingee look identical to the Nazi’s model down to the inch. Fascism seems understandable and like “the only option” for some people when a country is in times of chaos and turmoil, but it is NEVER the answer, and we must never listen to or be brainwashed by the Kuvira’s of the world, because they’ll just make things 1000 times worse.

Knowing she was going to be the next villain and having her be introduced in the Red Lotus arc was amazing. “You can call me Kuvira”. And they zoom in on her face. They had this all planned out. One of my favorite moments in the show was when Korra goes to Zaheer searching for answers. He then has to face the consequences of his actions when he learns more about Kuvira, and helps the Avatar reach stability, as he does not like world leaders. Personally, I would’ve LOVED to see Kuvira vs Zaheer. Would’ve been absolutely AMAZING.
Zaheer would embarrass kuvira, kuvira was arrogant, trying to fight the avatar directly, she would have been killed in that first battle if it hadn't been for korra's mental weakness. Zaheer nearly succeeded while kuvira never really had a chance
@@6thgraderfriends for what we see, really depends of fve master behind the element. But seems that Zaheer can fly and take air from people is very dangerous to Kuvira fight against him
The fact you like 3/4 villains of Korra shows just how amazing the villains were in the show, outside of Azula I place all of the LoK villains (outside Unalaq) above the ATLA villains
I'm so glad that Kuvira was able to redeem herself. She is one of my favorite antagonist in LOK, because her intentions weren't for herself, as I'd like to think and she genuinely wanted to make things better. The last part made me cry❤️😩 I wish Azula also have a chance for a redemption arc😢
Azula wasted an amazing prime in an asylum I would believe. After her brother Prince Zuko and Master Katara defeated her in the Agni Kai, she was left chained o her floor and sobbing. Zuko would have probably put her in a penal colony prison or asylum. Still, she could have escaped and went on to hide in the wilderness for the res of her days.
She could have made the earth kingdom the modern fire nation if no one had stopped her she might have had the best intentions but she made the wrong approach to achieve said motivation
@@mohabalserafe3795 She made the right decisions initially but lost her way every time she thought she could lose control. She was very bad in reflecting herself and her actions, but she was sooooo young when she did all this...
@triange1304 I honestly hate that they decided to redeem her! In the comics they make it seem that somehow nobody got killed by her actions, which is just unbelievable. Look i wouldn't mind a redemtion arc for her, if they didn't show her blasting that border guard building and the ships with her cannon, there is just no way that nobody got killed by that... Edit: Totally forgot about Asami's father, that was literally said by her, there's no "Oh it wasn't shown/said that he is dead, so he might as well have survived it" nope
An interesting suggestion, though I'd like to take things one step further: let's ask for an anthology series that explores the unseen backstories of the antagonists of both ATLA/LOK eras.
She originally appeared as an evil dicatator but her turn around from that point as seen in the comics was the most critical point in her journey alongside her ability to truthfully admit to her all the horrendous crimes she had comitted
Kuvira facing her demons and why she did the things she did would of been an interesting story arc in the animated series. Still one of the best underrated characters in my opinion. 👌👌👌💜✌
Hope they have a mini series and she becomes something like what Bucky/Winter soldier/White wolf was. Her home is attacked and she is called back to action when she is happily living peacefully but fights anyways.
Kuvira had the toughest moments in life - from her exile in her family to the exile in Zaofu - she experienced dark points where her evil self originated. But she also had the toughest calls and decisions to make in life, and it led to changes in her life. Her final decision to plea guilty on the final trial and take full charge of her actions, that was the point where she finally redeemed herself, her reputation, her family in Zaofu, to the Beifongs, and to the world.
She is litterally right about everything. Taking command of a disorginazed earth kingdom when nobody wanted to, deposing a weak fool of a king, recapturing land that was stolen after they won the war
if your looking for more Avatar you should also look at the novels, 2 novels about Kyoshi and 1 about Yangchen so far, they are such awesome books. Rise of Kyoshi is my favorite.
I’m still a proponent of her becoming a temporary Team Avatar member in Season 3. Like, Suyin lending her to the team as a liaison. I think that would have made her heel turn in Season 4 a touch more impactful.
I know this is an old comment, but I can’t resist replying because you are so right: it would have been awesome to have her as a temporary member in season 3!
You know, I see a pattern here. Earth Kingdom tries to take over the world, but get stopped by the Avatar. The Fire nation tries the same thing, but get foiled by who? The Avatar. And then the Earth Kingdom make a second attempt to conquer the world, but what happens? The Avatar prevents that from happening a third time. You’d think they would learn by now not to make a power grab of world domination. Because what happens every time? Well, you get the idea.
@@GreatUniter Yeah, and to accomplish that she needed Republic City. Aang and Zuko in the comics we're divided what to do with it. Whether to return it to the Earth Kingdom or not. The Earth King wanted it back. Aang originally wanted to give it back too iirc. It was an issue that was going to eventually come up once the Earth Kingdom was powerful enough to exert its claims.
Kuvira did nothing wrong , she stopped chaos in earth kingdom and later wanted to regain territory of earth kingdom . I never understood why republic city was built in earth kingdom instead of fire nation since you know fire nation was one to start war and not only that but earth kingdom was one that fought the most
Things could've worked out really well if Suyin took charge stablizing Earth Kingdom. She's built to be a General, not a ruler. Just imagine tho, Suyin being the country's charismatic bebevolent leader and she's the attack dog if ppl step out of the line, that's a real world superpower I'm talking! I bet Suyin will have smoother ways talking her way to Wu's decree and a better plan to take Republic City(if the power corrupts her) --such us putting economic sanctions and diplomatic pressures etc, and gets her way through careful maneuvers and manipulation. Which is way more fun to watch than, let's say, brute force.
She deposed a King and warlords which it is ironic because they actualy do not have a right neither a power. She united all provinces and people accepted the rule and she restablished the order. Was her rule authoritarian yes but more acceptable than the most. At least she didnt inherited the power she created it.
TBH I didn’t or ever saw Kuvira as a villain but as a Hero a Real life Hero who new the world is a harsh place who needs a iron fist to control it. Best character ever and who should have been the Avatar in my opinion
Still think Zuko has a great redemption arc. DIDNT mai had a similar problem but she just didn’t care? Her parents always shut her down so she rebelled against them as well?
The Legend of Korra had so many great villains, this may be unpopular but I honestly think Kuvira was the best, better than Zaher. Her motive seemed so genuine and real, plus she's a super likable character and has some of the best fight scenes. I REALLY wish she was in the show more
The video tries to paint Kuvira as callously betraying Bataar Jr when he was captured, but she really did love him; she just weighed his singular life vs the ability to end the war then and there with all her enemies gathered in one place, and decided that she couldn't give up the opportunity even for a loved one.
Same. Despite people arguing that Toph is the strongest just because she invented it which is a pretty weak reason since there will always come a time when someone will be better and perfect it more like Kuvira did.
@@Vetrarland i always thought that at some point toph would became super weak, because she senses moves and pressure from the earth but what if they'd train to simply just stay perfectly still and create a type of (metal)bending or any bending that'd just didn't need to move, like mind bending. I'd imagine toph being in an insane advantage at some point
So she should be sorry for stopping bandits, spreading the prosperity of Zaofu, and taking back land belonging to the earth kingdom.. I really don't understand why they tried to make her evil. Kuvira was the leader the Earth Kingdom needed after a long line of pompous royals.
Exactly! She was never interested in world domination. She only wanted to restore her country's historic borders and provide it with the standard of living Zaofu has.
@@howiebrown789 Her country fell into a warring states period rife with mass banditry and famine. How do you propose she end a period of immense violence and instability without anyone getting hurt? She was one of the rare things to like in Legend of Korra. Also she is the second obvious proof after Lin that Suyin is a failure for being responsible and being a family member.
I really love how TLOK explored villains of literary every other bending style except for fire. A (sort of) Non-bender, Waterbender, Airbender and finally, an Earthbender.
She is like an earthbending, more modern version of azula, but the only difference, is that she actually redeemed herself and is striving for a better future, while azula lived the rest of her days alone, being a shell of her former glory.

she killed asami sato's father by squishing him like a mosquito and she also almost killed bataar jr. and she also killed those two metal bender guards in the tower by shooting a beam at them like imagine them melting in that beam...
@@TioC-L-S Those are just on screen. She conquered an entire continent which definitely would have caused many thousands of deaths.
Interesting fight. Both are prodigies. They should animate it. Kuvira could negate his flight with her metal sheets. Earth beats air.
@@jessegoodman9462 Or, in other words, rock beats airbender. Lol.
@@6thgraderfriends for what we see, really depends of fve master behind the element. But seems that Zaheer can fly and take air from people is very dangerous to Kuvira fight against him
You know who would really embarrasse Kuvira? Ming-Hua. Can't restrain hands mage of water
Kuvira is one of my favorite LoK Villains along with Amon and Zaheer.
Personally my favourite was Amon
I really love kuvira. She is my favourite character in LOK
Wish she wasn't a villain
Well she's not anymore.
The fact she's a villain is the best thing about her just wish she hadn't invaded the metal clan or betrayed her fiance
I’m really glad they decided to redeem Kuvira. Her motivations actually made sense and she just took an extreme approach to her initial idea
I hope they adapt her backstory into a miniseries
An interesting suggestion, though I'd like to take things one step further: let's ask for an anthology series that explores the unseen backstories of the antagonists of both ATLA/LOK eras.
An anthology series kind of like what Star Wars did with Tales of the Jedi would be cool
Are we going to avoid the fact that kuvira is basically adopted by suyin and was going to marry her adopted brother.
I have been trying to tell everyone I know but no one will listen
Lol well
I didn't see no adoption papers. Case closed. 👍
It's not a big deal.. Suyin adopted Kuvira when she's a kid not a baby
Like she was raised with him as a brother doing sibling activities like isn't that questionable?
Hope they have a mini series and she becomes something like what Bucky/Winter soldier/White wolf was. Her home is attacked and she is called back to action when she is happily living peacefully but fights anyways.
Girl version of Winter Soldier
"We know you broke the vase, Kuvira. Admit it"
"No! I didn't do anything!"
*"Amazing, every word of what you just said...was wrong"*
Love how Kuvira fights like an Air Bender, light on her feet and precise with her metal bending. Oppose to typical Earth Benders.
I wanna see kuvira's 3 years rise to power
1:30 That is a very nice foreshadowing of Kuvira's relationship with Korra in season 4.
She is litterally right about everything.
Taking command of a disorginazed earth kingdom when nobody wanted to, deposing a weak fool of a king, recapturing land that was stolen after they won the war
And very trustful building a mega Tank and Super mecha suit, far more than enough for taking down Republic city.
Kuvira vs Korra a really great match. I was happy in the end Korra was able to convince Kuvira to surrender
A legendary line: you give metal benders a bad name
2:10 that reminds of Zosin who also wanted to spread the advances of the Firenation. At least, that is how he justified his actions.
I remember simping Kuvira she was an interesting villain. And I miss avatar series , I might buy the comics.
Not a comic reader but I loved the comics, definitely recommend buying them!
if your looking for more Avatar you should also look at the novels, 2 novels about Kyoshi and 1 about Yangchen so far, they are such awesome books. Rise of Kyoshi is my favorite.
sooo Kuvira was raised as Suyin's daughter but then was engaged to Suyin's son? 👀
what are you doing stepbro?
I don't think suyin approved of this
"Rocky Childhood"
I see what you did.
I’m still a proponent of her becoming a temporary Team Avatar member in Season 3. Like, Suyin lending her to the team as a liaison. I think that would have made her heel turn in Season 4 a touch more impactful.
I know this is an old comment, but I can’t resist replying because you are so right: it would have been awesome to have her as a temporary member in season 3!
i didn't like the 1 season villain type deal with Lok so I think this would've helped smooth into Kuvira's season.
To this day I still hope that someday, someone will make the originally planned backstory episode.
To be fair, the fire nation and the earth kingdom ALMOST succeeded, so I can see why they would try over and over again
cause they having a large population and army @@Ky8dinero
Hey countries and corrupt people in don't learn in real life either
Kuvira wasn't intrested in conquering the world. She was only interested in restoring her country's pre-Fire Nation imperialism borders.
I never understood why republic city was built in earth kingdom instead of fire nation since you know fire nation was one to start war and not only that but earth kingdom was one that fought the most
Because of the fire nation colonies in the earth kingdom, thats what became republic city
Kuvira is definitely my favourite character. In the whole Lok series, actually even beats Toph
Omg kuvira is like my favorite character besides Korra
Ty for doing da video
wait. suyin adopted her and then she got engaged to suyin’s son? 🤨
Just another stepsibling story :P
Kuvira: Stepbrother!? I'm stuck!
Why tho kuvira why
I absolutely LOVE Kuvira ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
My boyfriend wanted to marry the actress that voiced her: Zelda Williams. It was before we were dating.
Wow that's an interesting story. I thought Kuvira was a pretty cool character. The scene where her and Su fight on the train is great
She is the second villain that I wanted the most to win. The first is Azula.
She deposed a King and warlords which it is ironic because they actualy do not have a right neither a power. She united all provinces and people accepted the rule and she restablished the order. Was her rule authoritarian yes but more acceptable than the most. At least she didnt inherited the power she created it.
How did I miss that kuvira was adopted by Sue? I feel like I knew that but didn't KNOW that (I.e make the connection)
to be fair, it was only very briefly mentioned in the last season (I think)
This is the kind of redemption I wish Azula had gotten
"I knew you were weak" immediately became Fire Lord with VERY little hesitation lol
Azula and Kuvira are the best villains in the franchise
I remember watching the show on tv. I knew she was going to be a problem when they introduced her. Very Hollywood and foreshadowing.
The Legend of Korra had so many great villains, this may be unpopular but I honestly think Kuvira was the best, better than Zaher. Her motive seemed so genuine and real, plus she's a super likable character and has some of the best fight scenes. I REALLY wish she was in the show more
so basically she got a redemtion arc even when She's basically metal bending Mussolini
Ok...i'm gonna watch the comics of Legend of Korra right now , i loved the comics of Aang
The first part is really teenage fanfic cheesy writing. But the quality picks up.
The moment she turned her super weapon against Batar Jr., I only was like:"Noo way!"
That moment blew my mind
The video tries to paint Kuvira as callously betraying Bataar Jr when he was captured, but she really did love him; she just weighed his singular life vs the ability to end the war then and there with all her enemies gathered in one place, and decided that she couldn't give up the opportunity even for a loved one.
well after book 4 I was gonna say "I can fix her".....buuuuuut I guess she fixed herself. I love her char
Am I the only one who felt like Suyin had a lot to do with Kuviras problems?
Nope.
Yup and actually did something about her nation
The Kuvira origin story episode - Avatar's greatest tragedy
2:05 that sounds familiar, “cough” Sozin
Kuvira is the 2nd strongest metal bender apart from the avatar to me
Thank you! I agree
Exactly! She was never interested in world domination. She only wanted to restore her country's historic borders and provide it with the standard of living Zaofu has.
@@GreatUniter bro...she hurt 1000s of people. Began a military dictatorship. Broke international borders. And other things
@@howiebrown789
Her country fell into a warring states period rife with mass banditry and famine. How do you propose she end a period of immense violence and instability without anyone getting hurt? She went out her way to minimize bloodshed.
The protagonists broke international borders as well on mutiple occasions before they even learned she was going to attempt to initiate an operation that would result in the indigenous population regaining stolen territory if she was successful.
@@GreatUniter regaining that territory through the pain and suffering of people? She promised to give power up but didnt
Kuvira is the best villian of LoK
Nah. Amon is
She was one of the rare things to like in Legend of Korra. Also she is the second obvious proof after Lin that Suyin is a failure for being responsible and being a family member.
Hey ! the - "Now its over" line was also used by ming hua in her final battle
Whoa. Toph, kuvira and suyin fighting together is crazy...
Well that was a fun history lesson.
We needed this, thank you 🙏
Had no idea Kuvira has been through so much. 😥
Feel so bad for her
Kuvira = Chin the Conqueror reincarnation
Chin the Conqueror that looks like Kyoshi lol…plus has the orphan origin 😅
Kuvira is my Favorite character in the Lok series. Proudly done by the creators
Kuvira is my favorite TLOK character
Imagine how powerful Kuvira would be if she was a bloodbender
Then she would have ended up like Amon
We already have Amon
She's like an earth version of Azula😮🙌
I really love how TLOK explored villains of literary every other bending style except for fire.
A (sort of) Non-bender, Waterbender, Airbender and finally, an Earthbender.
They say she didn't deserve a redemption arc but I still enjoyed it
She is like an earthbending, more modern version of azula, but the only difference, is that she actually redeemed herself and is striving for a better future, while azula lived the rest of her days alone, being a shell of her former glory.
This is a really great show.
Hold on, kuvira was adopted by su but then went on to get engaged with su’s actual son. That just seems weird to me
Kuvira’s definitely my second favorite avatar villain after Azula
Ruins of the Empire is an elite graphic novel
Wish we could have seen this arc play out in the animated series. A redemption arc is always a rush of emotions since you get to see a side of the villains you never gave much thought about
As soon she said, “you can call me kuvira” I’m like, “oh no… something bad is about to happen “
Does anyone have the urge to scream in pain whenever you see brainwashed Asami, Mako and bolin? I do
When curing the brainwashing I thought they would turn to Varrick and we could hear “do the thing” one last time :(
From a dictator who had Zaofu under her control to being a prisoner and being at the mercy of Suyin Beifong
❇️ All hail the Great Uniter ❇️
Kuvira reminds me a bit of the moustache man
She’s hot.
yes
Ugh.🤦🏿♂️
I loved it!
i feel like this arc should get its own series. it could have a great storytelling potential like its predecessor
