If he could use the full extent of his bending and not have to worry about collateral damage he could probably defeat anyone in both series one-on-one except for an Avatar, a bloodbender, and maybe a few specific benders like Toph or a comet-enhanced Iroh or Ozai.
In a way I thought they were cute together too but it's clear she liked him as friend. I think fans though to a certain degree were being a little hard on Korra, because even though she was wrong to make out with Mako, he still said he liked her and he never turned pushed her away and at least Korra immediately felt bad about it afterwards and apologized whereas Mako might well as have said "Your crush and I made out. Get over it " But yeah with Opal she didn't have any relationship or emotional baggage and wasn't a diva or a yandere so she was perfect for Bolin

Gonna be honest, when I first watched Book 1, I was rooting for Borra. I thought they were a perfect match compared to Makorra. Strong, tough, caring, energetic, they had more in common

Bolin really got the best ending in the show he’s a great earth and lava bender he well liked and he got an amazing kind girlfriend that is also the granddaughter of his idol.

He’s got irohs heart of gold, Bumis earth bending strength as well as his happy outlook despite all he’s been through and sokkas awkwardness /goofiness (part king Bumi too) all while actually giving sound advice! I seriously hope if they do a 3rd avatar with the next gen having bolin being a master or playing a part in it

But if they waited until they got older and Eska became less socially awkward, the two could have been cute !

For example fire and earth are mixed as lavabending(we were able to see it on boolin who had a earthbending father and a firebending mother) and air with water as cloud bending. So what could happen between air and earth. (I am fan of Opal and Bolin, they are made for each other)
Honestly I wish Korra had given him a chance I would have loved to see them mature of each other before breaking up and ending with the partners that we know are better for them
