- Slight change of plan as we get a phone call from the shipping line to say we have a week to get @whistlindiesel’s Tank ready to ship out to the USA.
Moving Centurion AVRE out the workshop with Foden Recovery Truck.

There is the clinically clean engineering you see in nice warm well equipped workshops on most YT videos about building this or that and then there is the real world of tank and military engineering like this. Its heavy, its mucky and its very difficult. And its done outside in the freezing cold. Unless you are the Australian Tank Museum restoring Panzers when its heavy, its mucky, its all seized, its very difficult and BLOODY hot!
BZ to all these lads and lasses who muck on and have a laugh. (Had to smile at the lady's shoes coming off to climb up on the AVRE).

WD durability test department is going to take good care of that centurion. And it will be good fun for us!

I've always had a soft spot for Fodens: When I was growing up the local aggregates contractor had a fleet of Foden tippers; badge has stuck in my mind since then. The recoveries look superb.
I must admit that foden looks and sounds amazing, even if it’s got Rolls-Royce eagle in it
Love old Foden steam lorries and traction engines too.
@@Brigadier9 when it comes to steam wagons I'm a Sentinal fan, in particular the DG 6 as my grandad had one when he delivered coal. Like a good thornycroft too.

I also watch the Australian Armour Museun site. The contrast to the baking hot (there) and the freezing cold (this) on the same days!!
When were shipping some armoured vehicles to Canada for a major exercise, we had to do the same getting all trace's of mud out of the running gear which meant we took the tracks off laid them out, and had to take all the track pads off so we could jet wash the tacks. That was what I had to do on the 432s it was emotional but not as bad as the poor guys that worked on the AS90 😭

Those Fodens really are a beast. I was serving in the falklands in 1995 and we had to get the Army Recce Mech to push a C130 Hercules aircraft out of the hanger as both of the aircraft tugs were unserviceable.
Pedantry, I know, but it's "Recy Mech". "Recce" is the abbreviation for Reconnaissance.

Moving the tanks around looks quite easy. Would it actually be possible to pull it with a normal car? Perhaps you can make a video from that ???
We were always told that the Fodens were too heavy under UK Construction and Use regulations, coming in at a tad over 33 tons (max of 11 tons per axle)
Perhaps by removing the rear plough ground anchor is enough to get it within limits
It weighs less than 30 tonnes, actual weight depending on kit being carried, eg snow chains aren't light!
Just found the brochure which quotes 25.3 tonnes, but not sure whether that's the ex factory weight before the Army adds the tools etc.
Video how you get into the drivers cab with the gun rear. As a tankie would do back in the day.

The Foden is a mighty recovery beast. I wonder what happend to all those AEC mk3's "Militants" that they replaced in the late 80/early 90's ?
All AEC Recovery Militants were mk2s and Rhd all mk3s were Lhd
@@davidcloudsdale4167 Incorrect!! The Recy Militants were Mk3s, as were the Mk3 Cargo, which unlike the Recy, were all LHD. The Cargo ran on 15.00 - 20 Cross ply tyres, & the Recy on 16.00 - 20 radials, Michelins, as the Fodens do.
Not seen them 302 and 802's for a few years, where did you get them from?
I’m amazed you don’t grit blast these tanks rather than needle gunning, would be a hell of a lot faster and better surface for coatings to go on after

Why do you needle gun rather than media blast (sand, glass .etc)? wouldn’t blasting be safer and reduce risk of getting white finger?
Sand blasting isn’t good for the vehicle unless you strip off every single part even turret
I’ve seen bigger exhaust pipes on boy racers vw’s and astras than that Chieftain 😊

Do customers ever want to have the tank with the old and crappy paintjob? I think they look much better that way... And why do you needle gun the paint off? It would seem like blasting would be much faster.
Some but most don’t. Would be faster but wouldn’t do the vehicle any good

They try to keep contamination to a minimum.
Well for one dirt can have invasive species and can damage ecosystems in America.

fk needle gunning the entire thing, just use a grinder with a wire wheel to do as much as possible to cut down the amount of work.
