Toyota/Subaru found a fix for the wheel problem. This was to simply add a washer to the hub bolts thereby increasing the friction of the contact surface. This did take some time implementing because safety verification was necessary (including braking, acceleration and turning). The heavy weight of the EV as compared to their ICE vehicles was a complicating factor. So one should not hold this against the Solterra and Toyota BZ4X. Almost naturally, some journalists a long way from home made a big deal about this. I was confident enough to acquire the Solterra and after some months I do not feel that this confidence is misplaced. With the recent software upgrade (percent charge is now revealed by the console and the range increased by a transfer from the buffer so thay the range on my trim is now 420 km (250 miles) and, importantly for long road trips one is no longer punshed for exceeding 2 DC charges within a 24 hour period. The latter is increased to 3.86. I carried out a road trip recently (with some trepidation I freely confess). The trip passed off with no problems at all. The driver alert beep warning is so ittitating but no problem because it is easly disabled. All in all, I am very satisfied with the Solterra - it is pleasure to drive and a contributing factor is the driver`s unconventional setup. For me this is a plus but I note that some do not like it. A bit like marmite, either you love it or you hate it. I add that the build quality is excellent and this for me is also important.
I drove the solterra limited as a loaner car yesterday and my goodness, I was absolutely blown away by how quiet, smooth and refined it was. I wasn't happy about some cost cutting like no chrome latches or power driver seat. The cloth dash was much better than I expected it to be, and much better looking than in pictures. Visibility is top notch from the front. Rear ok, but the 360 camera makes parking and backing out a breeze. The solterra felt like a car, not an app. Loved the dual x mode feature and how stable the car felt, lno wobble at all.. No SRH headlights which didn't make sense for a $50k car No true 1 pedal driving but good enough in my opinion
Subaru needs to up it's miles from 220 to 320. Also...I don't want to wait 6 months or longer. Charging takes too long as Tesla takes only 20 minutes not an hour . I got the feeling that you were selling the Subaru.
I live in Wisconsin. I suppose I could use my Solterra to pull Model Ys off the snow given their ground clearance, they would get high centered coming out of the driveway onto a plowed street.
Pretty poorly done video. Many of the features available on the Solterra were not talked about. Also that WAS a Solterra as the Subaru shown in the last few minutes of this video: it looked more like a Forester. I hope they have redone this in the year following it's release!
fOR AN OLDER INDIVIDUAL LIKE MYSELF WHO HAS LIMITED MOVEMENT A LOT DEPENDS UPON THE EASE OF ENTRY AND EXIT, COMFORT OF SEATS AND RIDE. RANGE IS ALSO A FACTOR.
Yep. I was going to buy a model 3, but entry/exit was a problem in that low slung critter: particularly in the tight confines of my garage. So the sales team wanted me to look at a Model Y, but that was just too big to put in my garage. I ended up with a Solterra, which I use strictly for local travel and charge mostly at home. We use the Forester for the long hauls!
OK. I am not a Tesla fanboy, but this person who is talking about the Tesla doesn't know what he is talking about. So, for the most part. You would charge any EV at home for the home owners or apartments which have an outlet in or outside of the building. The Tesla for example would only really use a supercharger network to leap frog from station to station for about 15 to 30ish minutes. And most people who drive an ICE car like myself spend at least 30+ minutes on every gas station to (refuel + bathroom break + food). And a lot if not most of the supercharging stops will have people stopping to do just that for 30+ minutes at a time. So? What is the complaint about charging speeds?

Then, like me at 80, you need a Forester. My Forester is my 4th. My SS check is not large enough to afford the only true EV .... TESLA.
