Easily my favorite Hooverphonic album; this was the song that introduced me to them. One of the things that I love about it is how aggressive it is despite the laid-back vibe and sparse instrumentation. This whole album is a masterpiece.
@@devinup3981 Nope that was Kyoko Baertsoen, who also was with hooverphonic for a short while. This is Liesje who sang the first studio album. Geike replaced her when she left. Liesje did a project called Suzanina and then left music for a while, but she's planning a comeback.
Best Hooverphonic lineup and style in my opinion. I have seen them several times and they go through singers like Spinal Tap goes through drummers. Liesje fits the role so perfectly as much as Beth fits Portishead.
I've loved this song for like 15+ years because of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Happy to see it pop up on The Interview. It put a smile on my face. (I know it was the Isaac Hayes song but whatever. I got nostalgic anyways)

I took care of this band with drinks, green room duties, etc. when they opened for Fiona Apple in 1997 at The House of Blues (Lake Buena Vista) Orlando, FL SO nice and that singer Geike Arnaert so sweet!
Magnificent song - a pure gift to those of us who listen. However, with the very greatest of respect and deference to the stellar writing skills of the group, what does the "serial number of our orbital gun" have to do with "you're not the only one that can hurt me", and Elvis too? I understand the principles of theoretical linguistics, but this has me stumped. Signed, Mystified.
Jason Baldwin Thanks for pointing this out! I just heard Isaac Hayes' Walk On By for the first time and got so irritated. I used to love this track--now I'll always be angry at Hooverphonic and unable to enjoy it the same way. 2 Wicky is effectively a remix. It's not like creating a song this way is inherently bad, but with such an extended "sample", at minimum they should have credited Hayes in the track title, not to mention he should be getting royalties. Without both, this is blatant, ugly, white appropriation.
If the end result is great music, who cares? As a multi-instrumentalist I struggled with the concept of sampling for a very long time. But in the end, it's the music itself that matters. We place so much importance on where it came from, but at the end of the day its the notes that are coursing through our bodies, not the artist.

Hooverphonic - Wardrope or Magenta
Morcheeba - The Sea
Zero 7 - Waiting Line or Destiny
Goldfrappe - Strict Machine or Oh La La
Fever Ray - Keep the Streets Empty or Triangle Walks
The Knife - Wrap Your Arms Around Me
Seal - Crazy
Massive Attack - Teardrop
the whole genre of trip hop is pretty much this
The bass line was taken from 70s soul/funk. Try there. Start with Curtis Mayfield and Isaac Hayes. You won't regret it

Did they let you keep the Playstation?
Apparently they were called hoover at that time and changed to hooverphonic later :)
Cool bragging rights! That vocalist is soooo pretty.
Probably had to change their name because in America Hoover is the name of a vacuum cleaner company.
Yayyyy!! Seriously! Very cool.

Nothing makes me wonder about the legitimacy of sampling more than this song. The entire thing is Issac Hayes "walk on" with different vocals.
sampling is a sin unless it makes 90's music magic.

True the main riff and bass is straight looped. But don't undermine the other instrumentals they added to give it a different vibe than walk on by
