Fun fact: microwave ovens and wireless routers both operate on the same frequency, 2.4 GHz. So, if you didn't have a microwave, but for some reason DID have ~1,000 home internet routers lying around, you could still reheat that leftover takeout by burying that takeout box in what would essentially be a WiFi bonfire.
This is also why if you're out of mobile data, you can type a URL into your phone browser, then place the phone in the microwave on low after hitting enter and the page will load after 30-40 seconds.
When I microwave rice dishes, I take a piece of paper towel, wet it down, ring it out, then drape it over the dish and microwave. What comes out is just as moist and tasty as the rice per-refrigeration. The tips in this video are also fantastic, thank you!

@@internetshaquille Dude, love your channel but you're still playing in the dumb-dumbs league for one single reason. Not putting a glass of water in the microwave. For those wanting to reheat fried foods or pizza, might I suggest an air fryer. It's quick, simple, and even the cheap ones do the job. Mine was 20 bucks and I've had it for a year without problems (Though I'm on a budget. I suggest actually investing in a good air fryer. They're pretty awesome and can help you eat healthier).
a lot of people seem to see letting food stand as an unnecessary stage, when the reasoning behind it is pretty cool - ice doesn't heat very well via microwaves, whereas water heats almost TOO well, so if you don't leave it to stand and equalise the temperature, that's why you end up with some spots almost flash fried and burnt due to water, while a good portion of your food is still frozen
I think you should have included a list of things that are hazardous to microwave - like aluminum and styrofoam etc. - never underestimate people's creativity when it comes to bad decision- making
Also a damp paper towel covering your food really works wonders It protects your food from splattering and gives it some moisture so the microwave doesn’t dry your food out
This is why I can’t live without a toaster oven- for fried food or pizza or pretty much anything it is the best. Also ya gotta invest in some glass containers- they’re eco friendly and don’t release chemicals in the microwave.
pro-tip on the glass containers: if you already know you’re gonna be too lazy to clean the tight away, just plan on putting them back in the fridge empty. That way at least they won’t be disgusting when you do get around to cleaning them. That’s the #1 draw for cheap plastic containers, is that if you’re ever too lazy and it gets gross, you can just throw it out no muss no fuss. So nip that in the bud by not letting your containers get too nasty.
@J P I don’t think you’ve ever learned how to properly do dishes if you favor plastic for the reason you gave. I’ve never had an issue with getting glass containers clean, and I’ve never felt the need to keep it in the fridge empty until I do dishes. All you need to do is put your hot tap water on the hottest setting and fill up the container to let it soak for awhile. Maybe even add some soap to it while it’s soaking. That will take care of _ANYTHING_ that is hardened or gross on a glass container.
@CheesyQuokka That took me awhile to figure out too lol. I only found out when the electricity went out one time, and while I was resetting the clock on the microwave, I messed up and made the timer begin instead. Happy accident lol.
I’m not sure that putting your food on the outside of the tray is the most efficient. That causes the same area of the food to always face the center of the microwave and the opposite side of the food to always point to the outsides. I’m not sure that would cause uneven heat distribution but it makes sense that it would.
If you want to make a food crispy and you don't have or want to use a oven/toaster oven, you can do the following: 1. Use the microwave to heat up the food until it's warm. Usually this takes less than a minute, depending on what you're heating and how much. 2. Put the warmed food onto a frying pan that's been heating up on your stove for a few minutes. 3. Flip the food every now and then to crisp all sides. This is a great method to reheat pizza slices from the fridge, and to also crisp frozen chicken nuggets.
In microwaves where that's possible, I like to pre-program multiple runs with decreasing intensities. For example, 1:30 at 100%, then 1:30 at 50%, then 2:30 at 20%. Takes longer than running at higher power and stirring in between, but you can set it and forget it until it's done.
Yeah but when you put it back in to reheat, why did you put it in the center instead of on the edge? Great channel, man! I’m glad the algorithm recommended you!
wouldn't using the rim as opposed to center heat it up unevenly? (meaning whatever parts of the plate are closer to the center of the microwave will rotate within the inner radius and never warm up like the part that's closer to the outside)
Another hack for rice and other steamed items that would dry out in the microwave. just sprinkle some water into the rice and once warmed up it should be almost as fluffy and soft as it was when it was fresh!
Don't pop the door while it's running; hit the pause button before opening. The switches in the door arc every time it is opened while powered and they aren't designed to handle it. Nearly all microwaves that wind up in the trash only have bad door switches.
dude i been making a hole in the middle and putting the plate on the edge since i was a little kid. should be common sense. the middle is always cold, so you get rid of the middle!
@@CrapsGoodxD i dont know why. another way to fix it is if its a small plate or bowl you can put it on the edge of the rotating plate in the microwave. or put the food at the edge of the plate so it spins around the outside.

Advanced tips: 1) Get a microwave with a power inverter. This will make it so your microwave can ACTUALLY lower it's power by a percentage rather than just switching on and off. This makes every lower powered task turn out better. Better reheats. Better melting butter, chocolate, etc. Better defrosting food. 2) Get a microwave wit a sensor reheat option. You're gonna use it preheat, you might as well get one that removes all guesswork out of it. These work by detecting steam. 3) Get a microwave that's about 1000 or so. That's what anything meant for a microwave is calibrated for. So get that microwave and remove the guesswork next time you decide to be lazy and get something frozen.

Ok, no one wants to hear this but take 5 minutes and learn the power settings. Back in the day there was a big knob for it and now it’s a menu diving nightmare but it does just what the reheat button does but with more control. Perfectly heated not explosive food in 10-15 minutes saves more than enough time, energy, and dishes.
Also, set the power level to 80% and cook it a bit longer. It means lower maximum heat so things don't burn, dry or explode. Do you cook everything in your oven at BROIL? No? Same thing with a microwave
Conceptually a good video, but you're incorrect about placing it on the edge of the rotating disk. You can demonstrate the wave pattern of your specific microwave oven by heating a tray of tightly packed marshmallows - the ones that swell up & burn are being rotated through the wave pattern created by the internal reflections of your microwave oven. Wave amplitude diminishes as energy is absorbed by the food, but the placement of the magnetron is generally calibrated to coincide with the rotation pattern of the disk and internal reflective dimensions, against the wavelength. So, when you place it on the outside, you'll likely notice one very hot streak, and other areas that received no heating at all.
