I was afraid you were gonna call me out on the FUT comment 😅 Not sure where I heard that. But to answer a couple of your questions: -The topical treatment i was using before was minoxidil -The 26 was for the estimated 2,600 total grafts. I talked them down.. -The lower line drawn was their suggestion. I made them raise it to my actual hairline (the upper line) -They did 50 grafts on each of my temples. Not sure why. Why just to add texture? Thanks for the video! I learned a thing or 2 :)

The photo at 0:57 is from IRAN, not Turkey. The name of the man who took the photo is Reza Baeedi, which is not a Turkish name. I'm Turkish and I got surprised by the clinic room in the photo. Firstly, our plastic surgery/hair transplant clinics don't have 10 people shoved in a room getting hair transplants. Secondly, all the women wearing headscarves in the photo also points to it being from Iran. Low cost in Turkey doesn't mean it's bad quality. Our currency is losing value against the euro and dollar which is why it is cheap for foreigners. It's still quality care. Just like how there are some bad plastic surgeons in America and Europe, the same with Turkey. It's important to do research obviously before getting hair transplant or plastic surgery. I hope you do more reactions on plastic surgery in Turkey, this was very interesting!

@@drgarylinkov great but it doesn't help when the topic is on Turkey and there are already lots of misinformation about the country. The fda wants to approve it in early 2023 middle of 2023 Can you guys please give a thumbs up so he can see this? Thanks
I'm 53, and at this point I've probably lost a good 90% of my hair. I've accepted it at this point. My dad had what has been called a "juvenile hairline." No recession at all, no loss. My mother's side, most of the men were completely bald in their 20's. Does male pattern baldness typically come from the mother's side of the family? If my father was bald I don't think it would bother me as much.
It is a trait that is inherited from the mother's side of the family: my paternal grandfather had a full head of hair until his death, whereas my maternal grandfather was bald on top in middle age. My hairline has been receding since my mid twenties, but I am lucky in the sense that the progression is very slow.
Well men only have one X chromosome. The Y chromosome doesnt rly have much beside making you into a man. So since men lack a second X chromosome they are stuck w what they got. Hence them having colorblindness etc
I agree with you, he didn't need that much procedure, a small procedure would very well with his hair... and thank u for the video , it was great as much as your every video
Doctors in Turkey do whatever they want. They do not perform aesthetic surgery based on need. I say this as a girl who had rhinoplasty. I wanted a slightly natural aesthetic. When I woke up, half of my nose was gone. After the surgery, I was insecure for my nose, I was never before.
Gary I left a comment on one of your videos long ago about a squeaky door. And you actually responded so I wanted to apologize for leaving a typical joke RUclips comment because your videos are very informative and you do a good job.
You can tell this guy was not prepared at all, nor was he educated enough to get surgery. He shouldn't have gone for the low hairline as it will absolutely screw him over later in life. Also, I didn't think his hair loss was that bad in the first place. I don't think he would have needed surgery at all. But definitely at most should have done just 1000 grafts in the corners. If the surgeons are not going to have a conservative approach then I would be skeptical on the quality of the actual transplant as well.
Yeah typical turkish surgery, they packed too many of the bulbs into his forehead and did not make the density or curve match his genetic normal hair (before it fell out). South korea is a better option, japan too if you cannot afford us uk or europe
@Isaac Francis depleted donor hair if he continues to lose hair (which can happen even on Propecia) he may eventually run out of donor reserves. He would have hair in the front but none in the back like joe biden.

Doc thank you for these videos. It made me look out for marketing scheme and ask the right questions to multiple clinics before I made my choice. Thankyou for the content.
I wish I could get a hair transplant at your clinic. Literally you are so honest and straight talking. I'd know if I attended your clinic I'd be in the best hands 👌
I've heard good things about him as a doctor. I think it was on reddit. Someone asked if they'd had any experience with him and various people actually said that they were very pleased with him. They all agreed he is an approachable, understanding guy with good bedside manner and that he was present in the clinic (you'd think docs who have this kind of presence online sometimes tend to become more of a celebrity and maybe delegate actual work on workers, but it wasn't the case with him). Pretty cool to hear, tbh. He seems like a very decent guy.
For some reason I love that Dr. Gary creates hairlines but has no hairline himself. When he’s pointing out on himself where he would start temple work, etc it just emphasizes how perfect he looks without any hair and how we can look so good as our natural selves.
Do you have such videos for female hair loss? I have been thinning out and losing my hair at the front and midline, and having a lot of difficulty finding reliable sources for surgical options for women. It's barely talked about that women get that problem.
Since the video editor has more or less admitted in the comments that the picture of multiple patients in a single room is not of a clinic in Turkey, I do not think it is fair to keep that image in there. The excuse given of it being representative is illogical because the editor could have captioned it as "not Turkey" but chose not to. It is very obvious that the image is upsetting some viewers who have expressed that, the very weak excuse from the video editor is inappropriate

I have had few friends from the States and Canada they went to a clinic in Tuekry with affordable price a year ago and now i'm Surprised with the results they got!
Living in Istanbul, I can definitely confirm that this is a HUGE business. The value of your dollar/euro is higher than ever before making overall costs and labor extremely cheap as well. Foreigners love the personal pick up, in a ‘fancy’ van, the driver, being brought to a nice hotel, the attentiveness of many staff, the extra gimmicks (all very cheap thanks to your valuable €$£) etc. I don’t know anything more than that but I’d be searching the heck out of the clinic I’d eventually be choosing and listen to your gut, not the ‘don’t worry, everything will be great’ talk you’ll often get. There are indeed many success stories, which is great. (And beware of things like ‘Turkey Teeth’ if you are considering getting dental work done as well) Also; Istanbul is expecting huge earthquakes, make sure your hotel and clinic safe new buildings (preferably built within the last 5-8 years). 60% of buildings in the city are considered unsafe 🥲
Scientists in Turkey are saying that Istanbul will get hit by a high magnitude earthquake by 2026. It's pretty scary to think about. I live in Istanbul and they newly put up tsunami warning signs in places like Cengelkoy in the Anatolian side.
@Zahid Zabidi from the surgeries or the earthquakes? Every surgery has potential risks but I think OP was saying if you want something done -to make sure your clinic is legit in terms of safety and skill too and not just trying to sell u on the appearance of a luxury package. There's a good exposé on 60 minutes Australia about Instagram surgeons. All I can say is big yikes
Not exactly sure how I ended up here...I don't need any hair transplants nor am I interested in plastic surgeries...I was watching attorney Andrea Burkhart & your video came right after...I continued watching because I was born in Ankara/ Turkey... what I have to say, may appear slightly Off topic, but it will probably help explain why one "goes to Turkey" for medical issues, not only hair transplants or dental implants. Let me get to the point In Europe Turkish doctors typically have a excellent reputation as top doctors, regardless if they work in a foreign country or in Turkey... I suspect many of that has something to do how Medicine is studied in Turkey, especially the early exposure of patients to students & how to deal w/ various patients respectfully. Guess what, when early 90s we had this e-coli chaos in Seattle, WA & my daughter was one of the 2 toddlers that were recorded, frustrated w/ Madigan Hospital's doctors I, too, jumped on the next airplane & spend my $$ at a Turkish private children's hospital in Istanbul. On one occasion, during a crisis my daughter had, the current doctor "refused" to leave & the new shift just assisted the old shift getting my daughter's fever under control.. something totally unthinkable here in the US, unless one belongs to the rich & famous perhaps. Upon our return back to Seattle, WA, USA, I found out the other 3 yrs old w/ way less symptoms than my 2 yrs old at the x, didn't make it. O I knew, I had made the right decision. ...that was not even the end! Her German pediatrician in Heidelberg, Germany as well the Turkish -ER, the -ICU, & another -pediatrician in Istanbul, Turkey, i.e. 4 separate expert's statements -translated to English-, emphasized that it was paramount that her kidneys to be observed frequently via ultrasound etc for the next 6 months...this was fully ignored...we couldn't even get 1!!! Since that saga, I see many doctors here in the US as pure multiple choice products, & lost quite a bit more of respect over the yrs. Trust me, if I financially could, I would fly to Germany or Turkey whenever I have health issues than remaining a second at the mercy of American doctors, who I doubt know/remember what the oath of Hippocrates means! & don't get me started about this medieval American health system...
I got my hair transplant in January, 2022, in Istanbul. And I am VERY happy with my results! I got it on my frontal and crown regions. The crown area is taking longer to grow, but it’s better than where it was before January - BARF! I am now on finasteride, applying jojoba oil at night, and to protect my investment, I am wearing a hat when the sun is strong outside.
The visual representation of high volume clinics from Iran when describing clinics in Turkey might seem normal to an American who do not know the context but due to several reasons (not medical) it is very problematic for a Turkish person. It is as controversial as in USA if someone mentioned about a crime and you put random African American person to visualise it. If you have any consideration and respect for your Turkish viewer you would exclude the picture from Iran.
My sincerest apologies, I have added an info card with a disclaimer. Image was only meant to be a representation of a high-volume clinic, and not meant to disrespect Turkey or any Turkish clinic. - Marko, video editor
The thing that bothers me is that he acts like he wasn’t flown out, put up in a luxury hotel, and then offered the surgery at no cost (or a heavily discounted cost). On top of that, the facility would obviously put forth greater effort on him since he’s a walking advertisement for them. His entire video is a commercial for them and totally biased.
Doc you said it's normal for teenagers to experience androgenic alopecia starting early. So how about a video on tips for a teenager and medical therapy to start off with
I got my hair surgery done at the same clinic about 2 months ago, it’s a fixed price at €3k regardless of the number of grafts. Happy with the outcome so far but obviously at the dormant phase at the moment

Hey Doc, I am 25 and am about a year into my first FUE transplant. The results are amazing, finally have my hairline back again. It was recommended to get on a minoxidil or finasteride to limit the advancement of possible further balding, although the side effects and understanding that I'd have to use them every day till I die led me off that decision. In a way I'm sort of planning to do another transplant down the road since I don't think my balding is finished. A question I have is, how many hair transplants can an individual have?
Not sure what exactly you have meant by "side effects", but both Minoxidil and Finasteride treatments used same time are known to work very well especially in younger people. If you watch more of Dr. Linkov's videos you can find a detailed explanation of both drugs and you can easily find instructions on how to properly use and apply them, like Minoxidil + dermaroller treatment alone might result in enough regrow to prolong the good shape of hair for long enough I don't think you will need another transplant for at least 10-15 years. Adjust your diet, adjust your hair - care routine and products. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least half a year, preferably longer. You just got to understand your donor areas are limited. Take care dude, this is your hair after all, do your reasearch and always remember you might fix this now, you have very good potential at just 25 years of age to sustain and protect your hair. Yes, it costs money, a lot of money. I understand the Minoxidil alone is expensive on its own, the proper dermaroller is expensive, but you either spend that money and do the right thing or you can end up losing more hair, losing more hair from a safe zone and you might end up in a much worse situation down the road and spend all that "saved" money + more trying to return to what you once could have saved.
@@leandoer2581 I appreciate the reply! There are individuals who experience side effects from Minoxidil and Finasteride quite often (dizziness, nausea, etc.). There are also more severe occurrences of heart problems, erectile dysfunction, etc. I'll admit I haven't tried either of the applications but figured it wasn't worth the risk. I also knew once I started, I wouldn't want to get off since all progress made would be tarnished once I stopped. I completely agree with your analysis though. I guess in a certain sense I'd prefer getting another transplant than taking a drug with the possibility of short term/long term side effects. I may start Rogaine just to see if any side effects affect me, if so, I'll stop, if not I'll reconsider the continuation of the Rogaine. Thanks for the reply though, means alot!
@@nicohalverson4352 Well I hope it goes well for you, just keep an eye on what options you have right now, this is a cosmetical field and this is what people came up with recently. As of use of any drugs, that's completely on you, if you believe in something - that's your right and I respect that, it's just the studies that show the effeciency on the potential hair loss recovery, there are many more drugs and types of treatment you can also look up. Take care.
@@nicohalverson4352 also wanted to say, that both ED and heart-related problems are mostly concerns of overusing the finasteride, I mean stupidly overusing, people are sometimes lazy even in fields directly related to their health. Just be minfull with what you do and you should be absolutely fine. Plus there are periods of active use and absence when it comes to any drugs, you can read some topics on that, too. But hair-loss is a chronic type of thing, Minoxidil is like 99% safe when used in form of spray or liquid and applied to scalp with a roller I don't think that might bring up any side effects, like at all. I believe you could work out a good recovery plan with your doc, let's say 3-4 months of therapy + minox applications and you could stop for the rest of this year just remember to take photos and compare side by side every couple weeks, so you could catch any symptoms of further hair loss and continue the therapy if needed.
@@leandoer2581 I think I'll do that. It would obviously be most beneficial to apply Rogaine foam once a day, I think I led down one too many rabbit holes on the side effects and decided against it. Greatly appreciate the recommendations.
Thanks so much for making these vidoe's, Dr. Linkov! For those of us who wish to get a hair transplant sometime in the future, but are not quite ready, would you recommend against using minoxidil based products to aid in the mitigation of hair loss? Or do you think its ok for us to do so?
I was there yeaterday. 26 mean 2600 grafts. The consultation is very fast. Doctor comes, draws a few lines and writes a number. They never draw the other side, because it will always be exactly symetrical. They always tend to augment the front sides as well, don't know why but it seems like their standard way. I told them not to do it and he just deleted the line. I also told him to put the hairline 0.5 cm higher and he did it as I wanted. But if I didn't speak up, he'd be done with the drawing in a minute. They really do this high amount of grafts into the frontal area if you have dense hair overall. I asked if it wasn't too much but he said he was not willing to put less. They don't try to upsell you, becasue at Serkan's clinic, the price is always fixed, you only pay extra for the DHI, as it is a very labor demanding process. You literally have like 6 people doing the operation - at least 2 implanting the grafts and at least 3 sorting the grafts by hair count and loading the DHI pen. The whole surgery part of the clinic looks like the lab from Jurrasic park or a StarTrek spaceship deck. Breathtaking.
Am I understanding correctly that one would have to take finasteride and minoxidil or whatever medications and microneedling and lasering over the course of the remainder of Lifetime with the hair transplants to keep the hair transplants from falling out?
@@liamgallagher406 okay so why did you ask the question then if you already know the answer it's not the transplanted hairs that will fall it's the rest of your hair will still thin out eventually.
Dr. Gary, can you do a video on lip filler nodules and lip filler granulomas and what to do when someone gets them. These are becoming more common when getting lip fillers.
waste of time and money. stick to using FDA approved treatments for hairloss like finasteride and minoxidil instead of random oils that "could" or "might" help which are based on very limited data.
I’m not sure about this. When one keeps their hair extremely short hair loss does not matter. Many men look great with extremely short or shaved heads. To each their own… Love you to Dr. Gary from California
Hi Dr. Linkov, I hope you are doing well. At 44, I've been experiencing diffuse hair loss, particularly in the frontal area, spanning approximately 55-70 cm² (10Wx7H). While some remnants of my old hairline are still visible, the recent thinning has been quite noticeable, especially over the past two years. To manage this, I've been attempting to camouflage the area with hair from neighboring regions. Additionally, there's some thinning in my crown area, which I believe could benefit from Minoxidil treatment. Understanding the limitations of diagnosing without a direct assessment, I'm curious about the estimated range of grafts required for a hair transplant in my case. I acknowledge the difficulty in providing a precise figure without evaluating the thickness of my hair firsthand. On a side note, I genuinely wish I could afford to undergo the procedure directly under your care, rather than considering the complexities of seeking treatment overseas, where there's a risk of overharvesting. Thank you for your time and expertise and all your informational videos.
As one androgenic alopecia sufferer, I watch you and many other youtubers that creat content about hair loss, mostly I find your videos informative and objective but dude 00:56 this pic, this is not even in turkey, I myself also looking for a clinic in istanbul for ht and not any clinic serves in this kind of condition. However I agree with you there are many maybe more than any other country in the world ht clinics in istanbul and most of them create unnatural hairline designs, especially the ones which makes their marketings strategy for the tourist who will pay $&€.
Interesting! Dr Gary, do you have one on female hair transplant? As a female with waist length hair considering vertex hair transplant, I'm curious if I'd have to shave my entire my head, or "just" the transplant or donor site? Thx! 🌱
Not Gary here but in an old video, about Zach from Try Guys he mentions a proceduce geered more towards women. They harvest the hair then trim it it after instead of shaving your head.
I did a transplant 4 weeks ago, I agreed to shave my recipient area (front/top) as they said if I kept the existing hair long there was a risk they would tangle with the transplanted hair and ”lift” them. It’s growing really good so far and I will get myself a short haircut soon
Most likely yes. First thing you should do is begin taking oral Finasteride 1 mg a day. Your hairloss is caused by the hormone DHT, a stronger form of testosterone, and Finasteride works by preventing testosterone from becoming DHT. You can also use topical minoxidil to maximize results from about a year’s worth of taking Finasteride. A year, because hormones take time to have their effects. At this stage, you may experience enough regrowth to where you no longer need a transplant. You’re quite young, so this is possible. If you do still want a hair transplant, it’ll use less grafts after Finasteride and help you maintain those grafts after surgery. Consult more than one doctor before you go underneath the knife
Got a transplant and got pretty good results. My doctor recommended against fin due to side effects and just told me to use minoxidil . Imagine trying to look attractive while not being able to use what's down there. Not worth it.
@@AliHamza-sv4ni I take Finasteride and I’m very much still capable downstairs. Honestly, I can’t say I’ve noticed any side effects besides hair regrowth. However, you really need an anti-androgen to combat Androgenic Alopecia (MPB). Finasteride is normally the first to recommend, because side effects only occur in 2% of patients and it’s extremely effective. Dutasteride is much stronger (able to block 90% DHT as opposed to Finasteride’s 70%), but has a slightly higher chance of side effects (also it will cause greater initial hormone disruption, naturally being a stronger drug). It’s best to start at about 1 mg of Finasteride or 0.5 mg (if just for future prevention) and increase dosage after resistance builds after years of successful usage, and then move onto Dutasteride. This way, you can maximize efficiency of these two anti-androgens. However, if you are allergic to Finasteride, you can still use Ketoconazole shampoo, RU1885, or a newer drug called Pyr to block DHT from harming your follicle. Saw Palmetto is also a supplement with some DHT blocking abilities (probably close to like 10% compared to 70% with Finasteride). Using Minoxidil with an androgen blocker is often compared to filling a bucket with sand that still has a hole in it. Without a DHT blocker to plug the hole, your follicles will still fall out like sand through a hole
Here's my story". I got the early, early hair transplant early 90's at age 22 - you know, the pot plants / plugs. Then after going through 20 years of hell and mental anguish as my natural hair fell out the ridiculous pot plant look took hold. I tried to cover it up with the powder like what that Trump uses, then I went to full wig for a few months. Finally att 42 I got over my mental anguish and shaved my head. My shaved head has a great shape, but unfortunately the transplant area had big bumps - I got these lasered, and that helped flatten them out. If you look closely at my shaved head you can still make up small bumps. And my donor site scar is clearly visible and does stand out, but I no longer care what people think. As I look back on my young self, I do kick myself I did not wait a couple years because when Bruce Willis shaved his head mid 90's all of a sudden shaved heads for men became acceptable, and you were no longer looked on as a bit of a rough dude. These days I live happily and embrace my donor scar and my little bumps on top of my head - different story when I was a young man and self conscious wanting to look my best to attract women. Turns out women like shaved heads on men if you have a nice shaped head. Anyway, I don't decry any young man trying transplants as the modern methods are so, so far advanced from the butchery performed on me many years ago - but all I would say to young men is shave your head first to see how you look. Overall I am probably a mentally stronger person for the hell I want through for 20 years over my botched transplant, the fear, the loathing, trying to cover it up the pot plants with powders and wigs...but I would have made a different choice way back then if I knew in advance what I would go through for 20 years - but life goes on and you got to embrace your mistakes and learn from them. Kia Ora from New Zealand. Cheers
Brett had a completely normal hairline. Ive got the same thing going on - just the corners coming in (have a widows peak so I didn’t notice until i was like early 20s)- i cant imagine getting a hair transplant unless the front of your hairline starts receding. It just means i wouldn’t look good with a buzz cut like Brett there
I have the same hairline as Brett post-surgery and Im planning in like 3 years on getting a hair transplant. I am def not touching the front like he did. Seems like he got it paid for, but didnt do his research (im guessing). But, to each their own, I think it will still look great, tho.
The guy was never losing his hair. A bit stupid to be honest with you. He didn't understand the difference between mature hairline and actual hairloss.
Hi Dr Gary I had a vitamin d deficiency could that have caused my hair to thin it's not really bad but it's gradually getting worse obviously I take vitamins every day now also can it grow back? Many thanks for you videos 👍
Dr I think a new video about the possible solutions for all the people having hair transplants when the rest of the hair falls down and they will not have enough donor is gonna skyrocket your views
Can you please make a video on what you can do when medical therapy can’t be tolerated. I can take monoxidil fine but I can’t tolerate finasteride at all whether topical or in pill form and it really severely messed with me. I’m aware is likely require multiple transplants as my existing hair regresses but there’s little information out on this. I’ve found a great surgeon who has good reviews etc and he’s said maybe 25% including himself (he’s had a transplant) don’t take finasteride
If there are some resting hair follicles on the area of the scalp and the patient want to FUE on to that site. What will happen to that resting hair follicles ?
I was afraid you were gonna call me out on the FUT comment 😅 Not sure where I heard that. But to answer a couple of your questions:
-The topical treatment i was using before was minoxidil
-The 26 was for the estimated 2,600 total grafts. I talked them down..
-The lower line drawn was their suggestion. I made them raise it to my actual hairline (the upper line)
-They did 50 grafts on each of my temples. Not sure why. Why just to add texture?
Thanks for the video! I learned a thing or 2 :)
Can't wait to see the result :)
Out of curiosity, did they put you on finasteride post-surgery?
You definitely need to get on to a DHT blocker asap and stay on it for life. Finasteride or Dutasteride. Minoxidil doesn't stop your hairloss.
Thats no way 2600 grafts.

Just like how there are some bad plastic surgeons in America and Europe, the same with Turkey. It's important to do research obviously before getting hair transplant or plastic surgery.
I hope you do more reactions on plastic surgery in Turkey, this was very interesting!
Well said !
The photo was a visual representation of "high-volume" comment made by Dr. Gary. Not meant to be a representation of any Turkish hair clinic. There are good and bad clinics anywhere in the world, as stated by Dr. Gary in the video. Thanks for watching, we appreciate your support!

Which are the best Turkish clinics?
@@drgarylinkov great but it doesn't help when the topic is on Turkey and there are already lots of misinformation about the country. And because turkey is a secular country with controversial views on religion, such depiction would cause Turkish people to be extremely offended by the visual. If my father was bald I don't think it would bother me as much.
look at your mothers father :)
It is a trait that is inherited from the mother's side of the family: my paternal grandfather had a full head of hair until his death, whereas my maternal grandfather was bald on top in middle age. My hairline has been receding since my mid twenties, but I am lucky in the sense that the progression is very slow.

Let me get to the point
In Europe Turkish doctors typically have a excellent reputation as top doctors, regardless if they work in a foreign country or in Turkey...
I knew, I had made the right decision.
...that was not even the end!
Can you provide names of Turkish surgeons that have expertise in FUT?
Surgeons that do FUT all the time?

The thing that bothers me is that he acts like he wasn’t flown out, put up in a luxury hotel, and then offered the surgery at no cost (or a heavily discounted cost).
Greatly appreciate the recommendations.

wow i just saw bretts video the other day and now you're reviewing it! lol!
My hair has receded all the way to Timbuktu.

Hey Dr. Gary, for someone who’s younger (mid-late 20s) who’s self conscious about their receding hairline, would a hair transplant still be viable?
Have a consult with an honest Dr about it. Sometimes it’s best to wait until the loss stabilizes before surgery. Might want to try finasteride too
Really appreciate the responses here, thank you!
Brett had a completely normal hairline. Ive got the same thing going on - just the corners coming in (have a widows peak so I didn’t notice until i was like early 20s)- i cant imagine getting a hair transplant unless the front of your hairline starts receding. It just means i wouldn’t look good with a buzz cut like Brett there
Great video once again doctor
Hey doctor! Can you do a review on his updated video? From 3 weeks ago? Id love to hear your thoughts! Thank you!
I have the same hairline as Brett post-surgery and Im planning in like 3 years on getting a hair transplant. I am def not touching the front like he did. Seems like he got it paid for, but didnt do his research (im guessing). But, to each their own, I think it will still look great, tho.
My transplant clinic never mentioned any medical treatment. Can/should I try on my own for example monoxidil?
